    Präzise und zugleich lyrische Interpretation dieser technisch anspruchsvollen Klaviersonate im veränderlichen Tempo mit durchsichtigem Anschlag und sorgfältig kontrollierter Dynamik. Bestimmt eine der zehn besten Aufführungen dieses Werks bis heute!

    The sonata was first performed on 30 December 1944 in Moscow by Emil Gilels.

      Richter is marvellous here. And Gilels remains for me the best interpret of this sonata. His studio recording is just extraordinary.
      Prokofiev had a unique chance : to have Richter as the first interpret of the 6th sonata, and Gilels for the 8th. They kept those sonatas in their repertoire and became their best interprets.
      And I also consider Richter as the best interpret of the 9th, and Gilels as the best for the 3rd.
