Every Carnival ship we have been on was a lot of fun. But we were looking for the parties, and the crowds don't bother us. To each his own. Cruises are what you make it.
I really hope you guys try NCL soon! Breakaway class and above would be right up your alley. Definitely a more chill vibe, maybe not as much "fun stuff" as on the bigger Royal ships but the vibes are overall immaculate lol.
I think you guys just aren't Carnival people. It's a different vibe and clientele. Stay with Royal or Celebrity (particularly Edge class) since your Crown and Anchor points transfer. The other line you may consider is NCL in the Haven. The new NCL Aqua looks amazing and comes to Port Canaveral in 2025. PS giving you mushrooms after a detailed discussion about your mushroom allergy is unacceptable. 😮
It's too bad yall didn't have fun. We have only sailed carnival one time. We did spring break on Jubilee. We had literally none of the experiences you did. We have 6 kids and had a suite and an interior. All 8 of us easily found seating at every venue. We never spent more than a few minutes in a line. The kids preferred the programming to royal - but we've never sailed an oasis class ship. And there wasn't a party vibe at all even though it was spring break. We hung out on 8aft or the splash are every day. Had a fantastic time. Highly recommended!
I think if you have kids, carnival is better than Royal. We sail both and Princess, and for us Carnival was the best. But we did not like the Alaska cruise with Carnival because the ship was super old and small
We have been on several cruise lines. We like them all and yet we can see things that they all can improve on. When on the large ships we always seem to find someplace that is quiet to hang out at. We enjoy Carnival. Even on Royal we see the partying people. We will be on the Celebration in January. I imagine it will have a bit more of a different vibe than you experienced because of the dates we get to go on. You still looked like you enjoyed yourselves and made the best of it. I’ll be interested to see when you go back on icon and utopia when it’s at full capacity. The early voyages you went on were more like 75% capacity. I’ve seen some icon videos that look crazy. I think you can pick cruises at different times if year that are less crowded.
Dinner time question: Now that you've sailed with 4 different cruise lines, how would you rank the phone apps compared to each other? What are the pros and cons for each and what is a feature that you wish was on the app that isn't there yet?
We felt the same way when we went on the celebration in March of 2023. Everything was so packed you could barely breathe wherever you went. The new stage concept was hard to find seats for and a lot of line of sight issues.
Possible dinner question: what are your thoughts on how worth it spending time on other cruise lines is when you’re already invested in a different line’s loyalty program? Knowing you’re missing points on Royal when you do these, for example, do you ever feel other lines aren’t worth it in that context?
It's amazing that Icon has a lesser passenger to square footage ratio then Celebration yet, at times on Icon we were like "Where is everyone" because that ship just never felt crowded.

I honestly would not judge Carnival just from one cruise with them. We cruise Carnival and the vibe varies vastly from one ship and one iternary to another. I would not cancel the Mardi Gras!! I think you would prefer the Alaska carnival cruise because the ship is way smaller and the vibe is much more mellow. It's funny because your experience is how we felt on Royal when we cruise to Alaska with them. We didn't really love Royal and thought the ship was way too crowded.
I went on one carnival and never went back. I’m not into “partying”. I’m like an old person so it’s not for me. Im 28 but im so “old” at heart that I go on princess haha. Royal and princess so far are more my vibe
I have been watching Kerry and Brian for a long time. I always loved Brian’s research and knowledge drops. If you think there was a chance both would be walking away from this cruise liking Carnival you have not been watching. There was no research done before this cruise as far as where to go and Amber Cove. Their heart was not into this cruise and that’s fine. The food and service has always been exceptional on the Carnival Cruise I have been on. I am reasonable sure Carnival will still be the most popular cruise line in the world.
The Carnival Conquest (4nts) was my first ever cruise in 2022. I fell in love with crusing. In 2023 I went on the Carnival Magic (6nts - my fave of the 2 I've been on) and loved it. I have the Treasure booked for November 2025. Cannot wait for my first Disney cruise.
My first cruise was on Royal's Rhapsody of the Seas in '98. The following year, I went on Carnival's Paradise of the Seas. I much preferred RC, even as a teenager at the time. My next cruise wasn't until '22 when I went on the Disney Fantasy, which I loved. In '23 I went on Ovation to Alaska and this year I went on Allure. I'm hooked on Royal. I can't see myself trying a Carnival cruise. That's horrifying that they served you mushrooms when you confirmed your allergy with them multiple times.
Thank you for your honest opinion. I’ve been so far to one cruise through Royal Caribbean (Independence of the Seas) in June and never felt like it was super crowded. The food and shows were great, so I’ll stick with RC.
Carnival is definitely marketed as the fun ship so I’d keep that in mind. They like to get down, they’ve also been called the Walmart of cruises. They’re also the cheapest, I could be wrong about that one, so it probably reflects the kind of crowd you’ll see. I more of a relaxed kind of person as well and I’m going on my first Royal Caribbean cruise the beginning of next year. I’ve done carnival in the past, looking forward to seeing what a difference it’ll be.
WOW! I've been wanting to try Carnival's Mega Ships but I'm shocked to hear about the space per passenger. My husband and I are going on Celebrity Ascent in January and I've heard the edge class ships have the best space per passenger and crew per passenger ratios!
Was just on the Edge in Alaska! Beautiful ship, kinda felt like an art museum more than a cruise ship. We went to Alaska so didn’t really use the upper decks that much, but they were nice! You’ll have a great time!

You wouldn’t even put anything in the hall of fame so i just knew it was over 😅 we almost booked the symphony of the seas but my husband loves guys burger. This is our 2nd time on celebration and my family of 6 love it. Our 4 kids love camp ocean and we are just use to carnival. Sorry y’all didn’t have fun and won’t go back! It’s not for everyone! Having sailed Carnival a few times I have to agree with everything you said about poor design. One area that really stood out to me was just how poorly the Lido Buffet is laid out. Why on earth would they design the buffet where you had to get in a long line for everything. I would have to stand in this line for 10 minutes just to grab some fries. Royal does it so much better where they place the food on islands. It surprises me that Carnival has been making ships for decades now and has not solved these design bottlenecks.
We felt the same as you guys but on the Mardi Gras. I am glad you mentioned that Icon is not like that because we really want to go on the Icon but after our experience on The Mardi Gras we are nervous to book that size ship. We agree with everything you said about Carnival. We've done 2 cruises with Carnival. 7 days to Cabo and 10 days to Alaska. Bad food. Crowds. Our balcony room had several days of raw sweage smells.
My parents are Diamond with Carnival and even in there 80s they love the atmosphere of a Carnival Cruise. They did not like Royal the two times they went on them. I have been on a few and love the Mardi Gras. Carnival ships are the fun ships.
Diner time question! I’m trying to decide which speciality restaurant to go to for my birthday, Chops or 150 Central Park. Which one would you guys choose?
Spirit class is older, but it's the greatest square footage to passenger ratio. There aren't a lot of bells and whistles, but some of my best cruises ever have been on those ships (Spririt, Pride, Legend and Miracle). Great service and great social vibe, along with actually feeling like you're on a ship. The decor feels dated, but they generally keep them up pretty well. Also, agree with you on Emeril's! Really great food there. The charbroiled oysters are on par with the ones we had in New Orleans, and they have a fantastic breakfast that I am more than willing to pay the nominal fee for in order to avoid the Lido and dining room. You can get a big plate of red beans and rice for $3. Also, we cruise in January and February typically. Much less crowded, far fewer kids, and a nice break from WY winter. Summer cruises are the pits. There are definitely places that are less crowded, but it depends on day and time of day, and just plain experience, like you described from your knowledge of RCL. Embarkation day? Eat at Guy's bbq, Cucina or Chibang. Sea day? Hit Emeril's. Avoid the MDR and Lido buffet for any of it. Eat at the little breakfast buffet at Guy's Pig and Anchor. Just takes experience!
The Italian place isn't free on the smaller ships but is always our favorite meal and we have ate twice on a 4 night cruise. Only $15 on the smaller ships.
We sailed on the Mardi Gras in a forward balcony cabin and the noise from the crew break area on the bow of the ship was UNBEARABLE. Did you guys have the same problem???!
Love your videos. Thx for the hard work. Carnival, yes! Bad rep for far too many reasons. I’m not sure what you were (hoping) expecting? The same corporate profit structure as other cruise lines but at half the price. You always get what you pay for. Thanks for your honesty. @borenkd but I went on jubilee and it really wasn't bad. Then I went on another and it was horrid. MSC is worst of all they have pop tarts at the buffet haha. That was funny to see. Not that pop tarts are bad but still not for a cruise buffet. The food all over was horrible.
We went on Mardi Gras a couple months ago. It was very much like you said, too crowded and the people onboard were just loud and rude. The positive parts were the hot tubs in the adults area. The thermal spa was also awesome. We spent the majority of our time in the thermal spa. We actually have the same ship booked next year for a transatlantic cruise, hoping for maybe an older crowd, who are a little more respectful of the other people on the ship. We may still cancel this one and switch to flying to Europe or a different cruise.
It’s a bummer y’all had a poor experience. We’ve enjoyed most of our Carnival cruises but agree that it is a different vibe and crowd and you have to be ready for em. I will never call it the Walmart of the seas because that’s annoying and rude af to people who enjoy Carnival, but can agree that it’s not for everyone and that is perfectly fine!

We were on Mardi Gras and had a very similar experience. Was my first time on Carnival. Felt like the buffet was very poor, specialty dining was better, but the ship was very crowded. Every venue was too small. If you wanted to go to something you had to go early or there would be no seating. I would only go on carnival again if it was a longer cruise with a unique itinerary. I prefer Royal, Celebrity and Holland over Carnival and it’s not even close.
We just watched this video and agree about this class of Carnival ships. We were tried and true Carnival people u til we sailed on the Celebrity Ascent in March. Matter of fact we had just turned Platinum on the Mardi Gras during our B2B. We got off the MG and next day boarded the Ascent. No more Carnival cruises for us…at least on the excel class. TOOOOO many people and too crowded! The Mardi Gras is tired looking and needs TLC. Agree with your thoughts of outdoor spaces being too tight and this is a problem with my husband in a power chair. We spent a lot of time enjoying our balcony. Any time dining at the MDR is a **it show with everyone crowding the entrance to the dining room waiting on their table🤪🤪. Grand Central is poorly designed… ring back the old fashioned atrium and keep shows in the theater. We did now enjoy the Valor and Spirit when school was in session😉😉☺️
Thanks for your thoughts on Carnaval. We are loyal to Royal Diamond status. We love the Radiance class of ship. To us, it has a great layout and is very laid back. We love that you have great places to chill eat etc. Also love that if you frequent the coffee venue Latitudes, they know your name and what you order. You should check this class out.
My partner and I are all about the quiet peaceful chill vacations. Thank you for doing this with your honesty. When I did my research on ships that would be for our travel style we chose princess. Would love to see your opinions on a princess. Also would love to see you guys go to Norway or the med.
We couldn't agree more. This is our 8th carnival and have only sailed on carnival except for symphony of the seas that i was on with a group of friends. Carnival has fallin off a cliff. Especially with these newer ships. just too many people and not enough space. Not all of there ships are crowded like the new ones but i have to say Royal is just better post pandemic all around now. unfortunately Royal Caribbean is just sooo unaffordable. I might try and see if Royal will transfer my casino offers. Sincerely the guy thats said hi in the cabin hallway. 😄
I wouldn't apply this to Carnival in general. This might be Celebration, but here in Australia on Carnival Splendor, I don't feel that crowding is an issue. However, I DID feel it on RCI Ovation. Didnt on RCI Brilliance of the Seas.... So it should be applied to ships rather than Brands. Bernie in Sydney

We're Diamond Plus members on Royal Caribbean but other family members booked a cruise on Carnival Mardi Gras for March 8-15. We booked too, but I'm a little leery now.😑
Since the design of this ship is so cramped, I’d suggest you avoid the Breakaway class ships on NCL which we found VERY cramped and claustrophobic (on the Bliss, which had Horrible complimentary food!…)…and we also had a future cruise on the same ship (Panama Canal cruise) for 2026 and had such a bad experience this past April thar we immediately cancelled it when we got off Bliss in Vancouver

They keep saying want to try royal Caribbean but just want bc price my dad said to munch of difference is munch i realy dont see when looking around fpr are first cruise. As what ur say is true kind falls in what mom was talking about with carnival last big boat took why the drop smaller ships agin. We actually been thinking of celebrity, virgin bc crazy deals right know for next year , or royal caribbean.

All the videos that people make seem so big. I am going on the same ship on Dec 7, 2024, and I hope it's not bad. I hope we are not packed like sardines, lol. All the carnival ships I've been on never seemed like that unless a show was released.

As long as Royal is charging my family of 3 $4500 for a 7 day summertime cruise I think I’ll stick with Carnival.

I tried Carnival 3 times and never again. The square footage per passenger from Carnival is the worst of any ship that I've been on.

Really great food there. The charbroiled oysters are on par with the ones we had in New Orleans, and they have a fantastic breakfast that I am more than willing to pay the nominal fee for in order to avoid the Lido and dining room. You can get a big plate of red beans and rice for $3. Also, we cruise in January and February typically. Much less crowded, far fewer kids, and a nice break from WY winter. Summer cruises are the pits. There are definitely places that are less crowded, but it depends on day and time of day, and just plain experience, like you described from your knowledge of RCL. Embarkation day? Eat at Guy's bbq, Cucina or Chibang. Sea day? Hit Emeril's. Avoid the MDR and Lido buffet for any of it. Eat at the little breakfast buffet at Guy's Pig and Anchor. Just takes experience!
The Italian place isn't free on the smaller ships but is always our favorite meal and we have ate twice on a 4 night cruise. Only $15 on the smaller ships.
We sailed on the Mardi Gras in a forward balcony cabin and the noise from the crew break area on the bow of the ship was UNBEARABLE. Did you guys have the same problem???!
Love your videos. Thx for the hard work. Carnival, yes! Bad rep for far too many reasons. I’m not sure what you were (hoping) expecting? The same corporate profit structure as other cruise lines but at half the price. You always get what you pay for. Thanks for your honesty.

@borenkd but I went on jubilee and it really wasn't bad. Then I went on another and it was horrid. MSC is worst of all they have pop tarts at the buffet haha. That was funny to see. Not that pop tarts are bad but still not for a cruise buffet. The food all over was horrible.
We went on Mardi Gras a couple months ago. It was very much like you said, too crowded and the people onboard were just loud and rude. The positive parts were the hot tubs in the adults area. The thermal spa was also awesome. We spent the majority of our time in the thermal spa. We actually have the same ship booked next year for a transatlantic cruise, hoping for maybe an older crowd, who are a little more respectful of the other people on the ship. We may still cancel this one and switch to flying to Europe or a different cruise.

It’s a bummer y’all had a poor experience. We’ve enjoyed most of our Carnival cruises but agree that it is a different vibe and crowd and you have to be ready for em. I will never call it the Walmart of the seas because that’s annoying and rude af to people who enjoy Carnival, but can agree that it’s not for everyone and that is perfectly fine!
Have either of you ever been on a Princess cruise? I would love to see your experience on Princess. I have been on them many times and they are so relaxing and great vibes.

Not to sound like i am defending carnival, but you guys are use to royal which has by far the best designed boats.
We were on Mardi Gras and had a very similar experience. Was my first time on Carnival. Felt like the buffet was very poor, specialty dining was better, but the ship was very crowded. Every venue was too small. If you wanted to go to something you had to go early or there would be no seating. I would only go on carnival again if it was a longer cruise with a unique itinerary. I prefer Royal, Celebrity and Holland over Carnival and it’s not even close.

We just watched this video and agree about this class of Carnival ships. We were tried and true Carnival people u til we sailed on the Celebrity Ascent in March. Matter of fact we had just turned Platinum on the Mardi Gras during our B2B. We got off the MG and next day boarded the Ascent. No more Carnival cruises for us…at least on the excel class. TOOOOO many people and too crowded! The Mardi Gras is tired looking and needs TLC. Agree with your thoughts of outdoor spaces being too tight and this is a problem with my husband in a power chair. We spent a lot of time enjoying our balcony. Any time dining at the MDR is a **it show with everyone crowding the entrance to the dining room waiting on their table🤪🤪. Grand Central is poorly designed… ring back the old fashioned atrium and keep shows in the theater. We did now enjoy the Valor and Spirit when school was in session😉😉☺️
Thanks for your thoughts on Carnaval. We are loyal to Royal Diamond status. We love the Radiance class of ship. To us, it has a great layout and is very laid back. We love that you have great places to chill eat etc. Also love that if you frequent the coffee venue Latitudes, they know your name and what you order. You should check this class out.
My partner and I are all about the quiet peaceful chill vacations. Thank you for doing this with your honesty. When I did my research on ships that would be for our travel style we chose princess. Would love to see your opinions on a princess. Also would love to see you guys go to Norway or the med.

We couldn't agree more. This is our 8th carnival and have only sailed on carnival except for symphony of the seas that i was on with a group of friends. Carnival has fallin off a cliff. Especially with these newer ships. just too many people and not enough space. Not all of there ships are crowded like the new ones but i have to say Royal is just better post pandemic all around now. unfortunately Royal Caribbean is just sooo unaffordable. I might try and see if Royal will transfer my casino offers. Sincerely the guy thats said hi in the cabin hallway. 😄

I wouldn't apply this to Carnival in general. This might be Celebration, but here in Australia on Carnival Splendor, I don't feel that crowding is an issue. However, I DID feel it on RCI Ovation. Didnt on RCI Brilliance of the Seas.... So it should be applied to ships rather than Brands. Bernie in Sydney

We're Diamond Plus members on Royal Caribbean but other family members booked a cruise on Carnival Mardi Gras for March 8-15. We booked too, but I'm a little leery now.😑

Since the design of this ship is so cramped, I’d suggest you avoid the Breakaway class ships on NCL which we found VERY cramped and claustrophobic (on the Bliss, which had Horrible complimentary food!…)…and we also had a future cruise on the same ship (Panama Canal cruise) for 2026 and had such a bad experience this past April thar we immediately cancelled it when we got off Bliss in Vancouver

Great here your point of view. As a younger couple. My mom and dad love carival. They keep saying want to try royal Caribbean but just want bc price my dad said to munch of difference is munch i realy dont see when looking around fpr are first cruise.

All the videos that people make seem so big. I am going on the same ship on Dec 7, 2024, and I hope it's not bad. I hope we are not packed like sardines, lol. All the carnival ships I've been on never seemed like that unless a show was released.
So many folks are giving you such crap for being honest…now, the ship looks pretty nice, but also looks really cheap and fake…been on Disney, NCL and four different Royal ships and this looks FAR inferior to All of those…don’t blame you one dang bit
