    It’s sad because this is actually one of the coolest maps. It’s really unfortunate that the gameplay doesn’t express that. It’s too much of a pain going up and down constantly.

      Gotta love when the ghost is at the very tippy top of the lighthouse but the breaker is at the very bottom... and it keeps turning it off

      I agree, sunny meadows somewhat suffers the same fate but imo it’s actually the best big/medium map. I feel like sunny meadows fills its niche better than point hope does. The verticality was a cool idea but gameplay-wise it didn’t work out great. I just wish they would remove the stupid door locking mechanic on sunny meadows.

    You know what PH needs? A one-way emergency elevator that will get you from the top of the lighthouse to the bottom (unavailable during hunts ofc).

    My main problem with Point Hope stems from my issue with all of the larger maps which is that the gameplay consists primarily of backtracking instead of searching for the ghost or interacting with it.
    I really think there should be some way to reduce that in general like adding a backpack for small equipment. Also, adding evidence items in large maps that are supposed to be "left behind" by previous ghost hunters. That would make looking around larger locations actually worth it and reward the player for engaging with the map instead of running in a straight line from the truck to the ghost room every time. People don't play Sunny Meadows to speedrun anyway, might as well make it more immersive.

      @@seancurl4102 Exactly. I don't see why we can't just bring like 5 extra items with us. Maybe make it slow the player down so there's a risk if you get hunted? Maybe it takes a few seconds to take it off/on so there's a risk factor? I can see this being a cool new mechanic. Would make the larger maps more playable solo.

      My idea that I may pitch to the devs, if I can, is a way to upgrade our trailer, the current being the max tier. A backpack or a larger toolbelt specific for larger maps would be interesting, but would have to be balanced. Probably a movement speed decrease due to the couple extra items you're carrying, seems the most simple and effective thing to do. Makes you question if you want to prioritize movement over the amount of items you can carry in. Larger maps this would completely be worth it, but smaller maps it's basically useless.
      The trailer idea I had was basically the lower tier trucks/trailers would have less items and fewer monitors. The more you play, the more you get access to, but I can also see how that could deter players away from wanting to play.

    My feelings on this map are *extremely* mixed because on one hand, it's a pain in the ass to play on, but aesthetically it's amazing and it really bodes well for the farmhouse reworks if that's the standard they're setting for themselves going forward.
    Also, I had two goryos and a shade on this challenge. i wish this game had jumping and fall damage🙃

    Least favorite is Prison. Unless they overhaul the sprinting system and/or inventory system, maps that don't minmize walking distance above ALL OTHER priorities will continue to lose out to maps like Tanglewood and Edgefield.

      I actually love the prison for this exact reason. I think it changes the entire feel of the game, and it makes me play completely differently.

      @@possumwithacowboyhat5140 Exactly, it's quite a grim atmosphere and you have to make some hard decisions what to bring, where to set up base, sanity is very important so maybe you bring some candles, motion sensors and setting up cameras finally have a use at least when playing with a team, etc. If you get caught in a hunt "naked" (no smudges etc) it's very punishing. I definitely think it's a 2+ player map most of the time, simply for resource management and finding the ghost faster.
      Meanwhile the small house maps just feel like speedrunning (for experienced players), even with level 1 items on professional it's pretty straight-forward. For those reasons I like the cabin maps for solo play, they're a nice middle ground.

      @@phantomflame0658 I almost exclusively play the house maps, but I play on nightmare difficulty just with the sanity monitor enabled. I just don't have the time to do big maps with a full-time job.

    It makes ME feel bad how much it sucks because we all were so excited and just awaiting the update that added Point Hope and within a few games there I hated it and never played again. Sanity drains too fast, too much stair climbing, too hard to hear where the ghost is when its hunting, and the top two rooms are so terrible to have a ghost on. It's disappointing as hell.

    Don't forget that it you can only turn on 10 lights before the breaker pops which is ultra annoying and barelly anything on this map and for some reason sanity drops insanely fast as well, just on this map. You run up and down and if you don't have candle your sanity passively drop 30% like it's nothing...

      It drains so fast because there’s no lights in the stairways even with lights on. You’re totally right, kind of forced to carry a candle

      I kind of wish they'd put "emergency lights" in the stairwells (that make them at least drain less sanity) if they plan to leave this as a basic small map. At least you won't have lost +30% sanity by the time you found the ghost room and got back to the truck for other evidence items. Just to be transparent, I've only played up to intermediate difficulty and I still lose that much sanity :>

    They should add a utility bag to help with the back and forth grind. Guarantee it would make maps like this, highschool prison etc well more playable

      Yeah I’ve always felt like they should have something to make the back and forth less tedious. Large/medium maps will always be less desirable to play no matter what unless they do something about the inventory carrying. They’d obviously have to do restrictions like only 1 or 2 smudges, but they definitely should tweak how much you can bring in. Even if it’s only a larger inventory on maps like sunny meadows or point hope it would be massive.

      Honestly an awesome idea.
      Small maps - nothing
      Medium maps - shoulder bag (carry one item)
      Large maps - backpack (carry three items)

    It was 100% an oni, you can tell by the blinking at 38:28.
    I guess he didn’t realise how much it was visible because of how frustrated he was, which I get because Point Hope (cool as it is) is troublesome in many ways and crashed my game a lot on PS5… was still fun doing the challenge tho

    They really need to do a prototyping stage with some of these maps man. It feels like they just design a map and instantly start arting it which skips a really important part of level design. Grayboxing new maps and doing play-testing with actual players would make these maps so much more fun to play.

      This. Still though if they had their hearts set on a lighthouse, aint much we can do. There could be a lift on the edge that lets you get to the top or to the bottom instantly but this sort of breaks the 'artistic' design. This is a problem though sometimes with game designers, they get too lost in their grand vision to realize that people have to actually play their art project. Phas is pretty good in this regard but I've seen it hit entire games where its like a game is only meant to look pretty not be played.

      @@nickkemp4979 it would be if they actually treated it like an alpha. We never got a chance to play test the map in a rudimentary state and give feedback. They just made the layout and then immediately detailed and released it.

    This was a weird one for me.
    Entry bathroom mimic for first ghost, pretty normal.
    Second Was a hantu in the master bedroom, that I think got stuck in the bed? It was going absolutely insane, the motion sensor was beeping constantly, the bedside light was flicking on and off, it kept throwing things.
    Third? The ghost was all the way up in the maintenance room, and the INSTANT I set foot in there I got a demon. And by "Got a demon" I mean The demon kicked my ass back down the stairs by popping its ability.

    My least favorite map would have to be the prison, I always have the ghost room end up in some dead end corner of the map but the times I go to those spots first it's two rooms from the front door. I would *LOVE* a restricted prison map, heck give a restricted version of all the large maps. I don't like walking for an hour to find the ghost room in solo but I love the looks of the large maps. I would play brownstone and the prison much more if I had a smaller version of it.

    least favorite map? Sunny Meadows. Second least favorite is Prison, and third is High School.

    For potentially recording a ghost and sound, it should be simple enough to just add objectives for witnessing activity through the video camera or sound sensor. Perhaps there could be a record button a player hits in the van as one of the items pick up the activity to check it off. Nothing massive but it does give extra value to the items and another small player based mechanic

    I think a really cool fix could be that the ghost's room has to be one of the rooms on the first three floors, but the ghost can only roam up the map. And, maybe make the forced ghost room at the start thing be tied to sanity cuz it matters a bit less if the ghost hunts early if it starts from the top

    If the logic behind adding items was ‘omg a ghost did xyz!’ you’d add every item besides smudge sticks, so they need to limit it to what a paparazzi would have (+candles for some reason)

    Last deogen was so far up that it couldn't even reach me in my hiding spot.

    That Oni was really weird. As far as what the Phasmo wiki says, the setup period has no effect on sanity drain from ghost events. Darkness sanity decay is reduced by 30%, but that's it. So... what was that? Surely Insym's sanity should've been about 20% lower instead, right? I don't blame Insym for choosing a Goryo in that circumstance. The only other thing he could've kept in mind is that there were no airball events and the ghost always did them in their physical form, which is the behaviour of an Oni.

      Well, it was _not_ a singing event, because that would make the ghost produce a different vocalisation instead of standard ghost hunt sounds. So it must have been the manifestation-type event where the ghost briefly shows up and messes with the lights before disappearing. Those only last a few seconds. It probably ended right before he got close enough to get hit.

    I use T2 headlamp because I like having room for evidence items in my hands. I play on professional always. I don't always need all 3 evidence, but sometimes it's just super fast because it is nice and gives me everything right away as long as I bring it things.

    I can absolutely agree going up and down is a pain but this is still my favorite map. I love lighthouses, it's a very detailed map, the random noises make me jumpy in a good way and looping the ghost has a diferent, very unique feel in here. To each their own

      Same, so disappointed with this map tbh. Went from getting my favorite map of all time (sunny meadows) to my least (this garbage lol). At least sunny meadows is actually really fun to play on harder difficulties, especially with 0 sanity imo. Point hope just doesn’t have anything going for it really.

      I always leave like two unlit candles in the ghost room just to light and take to mitigate sanity drain if I have to schlep to the breaker.

    Hear me out... Only been playing for almost a month now. Im currently lvl 72 and really, really love this game... But check it..
    Backpacks... 👀
    Larger maps should have backpacks available on the truck to optionally take.. It could be bag that allows you to hold 2 additional items or be balanced by the size of the items in which you bring.
    You cannot FREELY SWITCH to these items as youre not carrying them on-hand, like your usual equip slots. BUT, with a dedicated button or on screen sub-menu, you should be able swap these items with ones on hand or simply unload them to be dropped onto the floor...
    🧠 🤔 Im JUST SAYING...
    Fixes the need to backtrack AS MUCH. Allows players to plan better and adds additional layers of strategy to the game! Especially in larger groups!

    Yeah this was my issue with this map as well. It was awesome the first time, I love the map, rooms are so beautiful to look at and just enjoy, but the hassle of going back and form to a map that is basically a straight line, just twisted into a spiral upwards, is just so tedious. And to make matters worse, even outside the Lighthouse, the Truck is so far away. I've always been leaving comments to suggest that for solo players there should be a suitcase you can put a lot of stuff in. So you don't have to go back and forth to the Truck.

    I wish it was a medium map. But seriously if the ghost is on the top floor and the fuse is on the 1st it’s such a pain going back and forth. Especially with a hantu. Still one of the most detailed maps and a very cool concept.

    Personally was a little easier as a group. Light management was vital. Protecting one from hunts unless you are dealing with a high hunt ghost.

    This map is the textbook definition of "gimmick". Unfortunately, whether or not this is a good map entirely depends on if you happen to like running a freaking marathon the entire way up

    If and when they change the photo/ video system, I feel like they'd have to change the interaction system. Items being thrown would have to float for a second, or even ghosts appearing and walking around, interacting with the environment at the same time (the model actually messing with things). I'm looking forward to it if that's the plan!

    I have a couple ideas for how they could improve point hope significantly, obvious one, make it a medium map, second remove the stupid double light switches on each floor and make it just one per floor so that you can have most of the lights on up to the top because its really annoying when you're at the top but to get there you have to go through a million dark rooms and drain all your sanity. and another thing they could do is make walking up and down stairs slightly faster so that you dont spend more than half the game on the stairs alone. Oh and also fix the audio on stairways, as well as ghost pathfinding on stairways because both are really broken and unintuitive.

    sucks this map gets so much hate, I think it's one of the more fun maps, there's a lot of stuff to interact with and each floor is completely different. as far as going up and down the stairs, at least you're not going to get lost, unlike some of the other big maps where I take so many turns and then no longer know how I got where I am.

    Maybe filming interactions wouldn't be so bad if they made incense (and cursed possessions that increase interactions) have greater effects on the ghost (like an 80% chance for the ghost to do an interaction every 10 seconds that the effect is active? Obviously ghosts like Shades will still follow their abilities.) It would force you to be active in using the incense and the camera and be near the ghost at the time, and it would make it less of a waiting-for-something-to-happen game. You'd have to be creative with ghosts like Shades by filming from outside the room. It might also give an additional way to determine Demons and Spirits by having Demons stop interactions sooner and having Spirits keep the interactions going for longer than other ghosts when using incense.

    Question, for anyone that plays multiplayer on Steam/PC version, because I couldn't find anywhere else that this has happened: Is anyone else having severe desync issues? For example, this has happened a few times now, specifically with EMF5: My friends and I were playing Professional, our first game of the day so it was Tanglewood Drive. We find the ghost room within a few seconds, and immediately get ghost writing and ultraviolet. The possibilities were demon, myling, or polter. The ghost was being very aggressive with activity, but didn't try to hunt for a while and crucifixes didn't seem to bother it. So, I doubted demon. It was very active (touching doors, turning off lights, killing breaker, etc), but only ever threw ONE item (we watched it intensely so we would have seen a polter-splosion or if it was throwing tons of stuff), so I assumed it was probably a myling and not a polter. But, I wasn't 100% sure so we waited to double check EMF5 and re-check spirit box (to get polter) or freezing temps (demon). Temperature never went below 3 degrees C for ANY of us (there were three of us playing). The spirit box never worked. Then, two of our team (excluding ME--BTW, I was the host) saw EMF5 at the same time. So, that means myling, right? Well, we selected that, and when we got to the results screen, it was a POLTERGEIST. WHAT?!?! This is not the first, second or third time that the game has given a different set of evidences (usually the third evidence) to the non-host players when I host lobbies. Oh, also, "Member of your team escape the ghost during a hunt" never triggered, either, despite there being 3-4 hunts all of which at the very least, I escaped (the other two players died eventually).
    It's also worth noting, minor desync issues like before we even opened the truck door--I'd preemptively set 2 video cameras on the tripods while the tripods were still on the wall, one of the other players pulled the tripods off the wall and dropped them in the truck to put the video cameras on (he didn't know you can do it on the wall) and I was like, "Uh, I already put them on, what are you doing?" And both he and our 3rd player were like, "Nope, all four cameras were still hanging on their own, dude".
    Anyone have suggestions or anyone else having this same issue? It's game breaking, I can't play with my friends when the evidences do not line up with what the host's game thinks. (AKA non-host players' games thinking it's ghost A while host's game thinks the ghost is ghost B).

    I think you just got really unlucky with the Oni's ghost event ending just before you "touched" it. It was really close, and that map is not super conducive to seeing the ghost long enough to confirm blinking. It's definitely an example of the frustrations with PH, and I understand why so many people dislike it. I like the map for it's character. Going to the top is no less annoying that having to walk to a distant classroom or cell block. I know you get more bonus from the larger maps, but I can use custom difficulty to make up that difference to play on a map that's more fun. High School is just a big empty slog of a map and easily my least favorite to play.

    I think they should just modify the photo system. 5 3-star photos and 5 videos of an event or footage of the ghost during a hunt.

    I gotta say I think the photo system as-is is already pretty boring. I understand that waiting for interactions is painful sometimes, and having to keep the video cam on at all times is difficult, but I think it opens up the door for more interactive gameplay. This seems especially fun for multiplayer where you can have a dedicated recorder to film those interactions.

    Maybe for the camera changes something to do with tier 1 headgear could passively get some things? But make it kinda spotty so it's kinda balanced. That would give some kind of actual use to it.

    I really love the idea of Point Hope, it looks cool, decorated really well and the secret is awesome. But damn does it suck to play on for every given reason here.
    Thankfully my friends had me carry them for this weekly because 2 of them are new and 1 is quick to assume.

    me and my friend play every couple of days to catch up and hang out but we've had nothing but bad experiences with the lighthouse map so we never play it, I guess its its kinda in the sunny meadows category, we just want to find the ghost get a perfect game while doing our thing, we are huge casuals don't hate us please but we try to do point hope and and the ghost is on the 6th level by the time we come back and forth we're being hunted, its tripped the breaker, where do you hide I dunno we're dead, I respect how much time it must have taken to be made and I hope 99% of the community is having fun with it I'm sure we're the outliers, ok you can call us dirty casuals now its ok

    I'm not a game designer (yet, I've started coding in Godot and just finished my first game prototype) but the grace period might actually be one of the most useless things in this game. It doesn't really help new players because they don't develop a feel for how sanity drains normally which could be jarring when moving up to Professional, and it actually hurts veterans whenever it's forced on during weekly challenges because it messes with their established understanding of the game. It basically fails at its job twice lmao
    EDIT: or it doesn't do that?? What does the grace period actually do?? Because I don't think it's to stop the ghost from hunting, the only ghost that can do that within the first 2-5 minutes of a game is the Demon. Maybe it's just a placebo.

      The grace period is the time from when a hunt stars to when the ghost can actually kill you. It's 3 secs in professional, 2 in nightmare, and 1 for cursed hunts. It determines how much time you have to run away from the ghost and break line of sight when it hunts, even a one second difference can very much mean the difference between surviving and dying.
      The timer at the start, however, is pointless, and the game gets rid of it in professional and above

    Awesome as always the developers should have a paid dlc or release a second game where you are the extraction team or exorcists make it so every person in the match has to work together make the ghosts scarier and more aggressive and give a musket with balls filled with holy water

    Our first game of this map, my buddy said, imagine we get orbs straight away, and it was in the entrance, we cleared that one so quick, but then it gave us banshee 3 times in a row and each time it targeted my buddy

    With the bigger maps, I do wonder how to manage my sanity. I know that lights doesn’t protect as much with sanity drain and neither candle lights. It takes forever to find the ghost room.

    I also had the issue with the oni events after the blood moon update. It seems to be bugged right now only subtracting 10% sanity instead of the usual 20%. Wierd thing to just randomly bug out after an update but its phasmo, so you cant be too surprised 🤷‍♂

    I did this last night...OMG it was a nightmare...Sound sensor wasn't actually to bad...but you could use your breath to find ghost room...but ALL of my ghosts were up almost to the top........

    I did this one with 4 of my freinds and we surprisingly did pretty well. We did 5 game in total with 2 of them being revenant that we did find! I think the other one was a yokai or a yurei im not sure. That was my first 5000$ challenge ever, happy it turned out pretty good.

    If they were to do that new video photo system method they should include an option that lets you revert back to the current method of taking photos with the camera and then with the "new record" events thing they might do have that as a toggled setting as well so you have an option to play it easy or the normal way and if you have it as record events you get extra cash at a reduced amount since it's going to be easier to catch these events on the photo board that way we dont fully remove the current photo system but still have the new one to try for those who want it but then when they are ready to up the skill gap they can disable the video evidence and enable photo evidence instead bec then we would have no point to buy photo cameras if it was just a perma change

    I had 4 ghosts of which none had ghostorbs and all of them decided to roll play a shade and one goryo decided to pretend to be a teleporting ghost, doing interaction 3 floors below his room

    I feel like they need to make DOTS' interactions rate increased, or at least make DOTS appear at a set timer. 5-10 minutes with no DOTS is insane and can ruin a lot of games on Nightmare

    Whenever the ghost room is at the top, I just quit and redo point hope. It's a beautiful map but inevitable would have been a linear and gameplay unsatisfying map.

    the Wiki says that the Setup phase reduces the amount of Sanity drain by roughly 30% for the time that's its active so i guess it might help atleast a tiny bit.

    F**k the Shade. I hate that ghost. All I needed for a perfect investigation was for it to burn a crucifix.
    15. 15 hunts later and it STILL found new spots to hunt from. An hour was not worth it.

    Cool map, wish i could play it. My friends and I are console players and we crash everytime we try to. Longest we've been able to play on it was like 8 minutes before all 3 of us crashed simultaneously.

    Breaker should never be more than 2 floors away from the ghost room. Truck should be much much closer to the map entrance, t3 mic should cover at least one extra floor and parabolic should cover 2. Sounds shouldn't be muffled as much considering you can barely hear a thing due to the many floors, and to make up for the breaker annoyance it should have more capacity, and light switches should be in less annoying spots. Plus the fact ghosts have disgusting kill range leads to a ton of bs deaths in sich a crammed map, like for example if you hide beneath a set of stairs, you'll die anyways, so kill range should also be reworked to not go through stuff. I know this might end up making the map easier but gameplay is much more important than balance and it's not like anyone actually enjoys dying to stupid design choices, and personally I'd rather have an easy but fun and satisfying game than a tedious, frustrating and boring difficult one. It makes me sad because they clearly put so much work into it and I'm certain seeing the backlash demoralised them a lot. The map has been teased for so long and they made it such a big deal of it, so it really is a sad state of affairs. I think that with enough exceptions and qol changes the map might be fun. A ton of stuff needs to change for that to happen. For example in one game we got hunted by a super active ghost who turned out to be... A shade. Despite the ghost room being literally 2 meters below or above us 90% of the time, the game still counted it as "not close to the ghost" due to the floor difference, and we got spam hunted.

    Mimic should be no evidence at all but the ghost orb. That way it can be any ghost like goryo and boom a random orb. 😅
