- Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara both appeared in a livestream in partnership with COP26 & Ted Talks telling the world how the climate crisis is fueled by animal agriculture and how to make a change.
Ted Talks Countdown livestream took place on Saturday, October 30 at 12pm ET for Countdown Global. The event was empowering, laying out a credible and realistic pathway to a net-zero future. Presented in collaboration with RUclips Originals and COP26.
Countdown is a global initiative to champion and accelerate solutions to the climate crisis. The goal is to build a better future by cutting greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2030 in the race to a zero-carbon world - a world that is safer, cleaner and fairer for everyone. Every person, organization, company, city and nation is invited to collaborate with Countdown and take action on climate. It is a movement open to everyone - and everyone has a vital role to play.
Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara presented the “Transforming” section of the livestream. They both appeared on screen virtually and told the world how the climate crisis is fueled by animal agriculture and how to make a change.

I don't understand the constant attack on agriculture. We NEED farmers!!! Why not focus more on industry and the poison they dump everywhere??? This is far more a factor in climate change.

An honest question and I completely respect your outlook on "choice". When you say "Being vegan is a privileged choice that we get to make every day multiple times a day that we know will make a huge impact" Are you vegan or making a choice to be vegan? Is making a choice multiple times a day a battle? Do you consider the industrial and climate impacts your vegan choices contribute towards?
They’re saying they’re privileged in having access and the wealth to be able to afford high quality vegan foods. Many people can’t afford a purely vegan diet, or have the time to cook for themselves, or even have access to quality fruits/vegetables (ie food deserts). They understand that not everyone has the ability to go vegan overnight for the rest of their lives but still sending the message that going vegan is exceptionally more beneficial for the environment and animal rights. What do you mean are you vegan or making a choice to be vegan? Being vegan is a choice, no one is forcing it on you
