- Spike Jonze's Her is racking up the accolades this awards season and nominated for this Sunday's Golden Globes (Best Motion Picture -- Comedy or Musical, Best Motion Picture Screenplay and Joaquin Phoenix for Best Actor -- Comedy or Musical). ET's Rob Marciano was the only entertainment reporter invited to sit down with Joaquin and co-star Amy Adams to talk about the critically acclaimed project, and their interview was definitely full of amusing banter -- from Joaquin's proclaimed love for the ET theme song to why he calls Amy "Angry Adams." 3 things crossed my mind:
1. Amy really likes Joaquin.
2. The enterviewer just doesn’t get Joaquin’s jokes. He is so affraid to ask a stupid question. He feels really nervous and...hmm... insecure in Joaquin’s presence. 3. Joaquin has a very sharp and sometimes even cruel sense of humor. He just breaks every question into pieces, leaving almost no chance for any question to make sense.

I can’t decide whether Joaquin consistently gets bad interviewers, or if his presence is so intimidating that they all just short circuit and forget how to do their jobs. By the way, Her is a great movie; it’s profoundly introspective and bittersweet. You should all see it 😊
It's not intimidating, but it seems like Joaquin tries to throw all of his interviewers out of rhythm.

Ok, my first fan statement about JP (and of all times): I think that he tries to push away the media, because he doesn't like to feel exposed and doesn't like to be a product. At a certain point, I think he had to make a choice, and that included sounding like an arrogant and dumb idiot to the media. But he just can't be rude to anyone on a single interview. He has this ironical sense of humor, but he is always very polite, and even if he is giving single word answers, he is never truly rude, or at least tries to not humiliate the person that is interviewing him.

Tolstoievsky The only assumption I seem to have made was when I said that at a certain point, he had to make a decision. For that, I looked for older interviews, and he seemed different in those. That is an assumption, I admit.
The rest of it, it's just me saying that he has an ironical sense of humor, but yet he can be polite.

Ester Graf The thing with Phoenix is that he has a very public-but-not-public history with the Hollywood and wider entertainment media that other actors don't have.. and that, possibly, nobody will ever be able to understand.
Phoenix spent his childhood and teen years being the unknown sibling of a very famous person: Someone who was infamous for detesting the interview and publicity process, who had his family move to the backass of nowhere so they could all have a normal life outside of hollyweird. If River Phoenix carried over his vocal opinions on fame and adoration into his family home then Joaquin grew up with input as to what was important and unimportant when it comes to the business and the craft. That's before we get to the fact that River Phoenix- for all his press avoidance- died a very public death with Joaquin making the 911 call.. and that 'River's Brother's' devastating 911 call was played relentlessly on radio and television for weeks as the press went to town tearing his brother apart for the hypocrisy in his lifestyle choices and his parents apart for their inability to raise kids right.
You have a guy who chose to come back to acting because he loved to act; knowing, arguably better than all his peers, the nature of what goes along with that.
Being prepared and guarded, you would think, would have been part of that decision. He has always kept the press at an arms length, he's had some really uncomfortable interviews (particularly when people asked about River, which they gave up doing over a decade ago) and he shot back at them in style with his social comment on celebrity in I'm Still Here. He appears to only be loosening up since he made that film, but it seems probable that he'll never tell a whole truth about himself or completely pander to that side of the job. And that's fair enough.
+closetolast once bitten, twice shy, basically...the media did the most unapologetic things to him in the past. my guess is that he's trolling and mocking and not really revealing anything at all about his personality in most interviews not because he wants to fool around and have fun, but rather he's just being bitterly defensive. he's kind of... made up his mind about the media in general.

Put yourself in here, doing these every day before the premiere of the movie, hearing the same quastions over and over again, shit get's boring really fast.
And this interview in particular is not that bad actually, i guess It is because of Amy being in there, a familiar face you know,

If he was even perceived to have been a dabbler, that might have saved the beating he received. No one took him seriously as a bad boy. And although he roughed up a great deal in his early 20s, and spoke about soft drug use, his public image was still very much poster boy for that kind of lifestyle- due in massive part to the constant regurgitation of early interviews and publicity shots which made full use of his nature name and love of the animals. So you can imagine the public feeling when that guy dies of heroin and cocaine overdose.
i made a mistake about the facts that i posted, because my english is very poor to explain myself, but i agree 100% that the reasons why joaquin is very anti-hollywood is just because he has to see from first hand what fame can do for you in the media, especially this days, so in order to finish i wanna say that every interview he does is awkward because he likes to expose the stupidity of all these anchors or amusement celebrity interviewers, because he doesnt buy the bull shit of the media.
