Well said and really good points. I left the theatre feeling confused. I thought it was trying to do a lot but it was just missing the mark and was rather indulgent with the “untraditional” elements. I was very intrigued at the start but after the first act I didn’t find any of the characters particularly likeable or interesting, especially Craig’s character. I imagine the ending was supposed to be a compelling or profound moment but I just wasn’t invested enough to be moved. I felt almost relieved when the film was over because the third act was just too drawn out and rather boring… but Daniel Craig’s acting was great!
I think that was the point of the film and Luca's direction; to feel confused and frustrated. Just like the protagonists. Lee is confused and frustrated about his relationship with Allerton. Allerton is confused and frustrated with himself. There's that brilliant line where he says, "I'm not queer, I'm disembodied." They go their separate ways after their trip. But in the epilogue, we learn that Allerton wanted to go to South America to join Lee. The film felt disembodied but I think that was intentional.
a must see in the theater. i loved it. really don't understand some of these mid reviews and why ppl aren't talking about Daniel Craig for best performance. also, if you're a Taylor Swift fan, i doubt this movie is for you.
First off, I appreciate your thoughts on this film. I think it's an intelligent and very observant review. I absolutely get what you were saying about the third act. Until that point I was fully on board and I stayed on board more than you did, sort of teetering on the edge, but I stayed with it and the payoff as you said was excellent and very moving. I think there's a lot of things about this film that are excellent, the cinematography and the supporting character', as well as Drew starkey's performance.Effectivly I think doesn't get mentioned enough. But Daniel Craig is the main focus of this film and I think he Gives an outstanding performance in this movie. I really feel he will be nominated for an Oscar also one last thing I would like to mention is the soundtrack I thought Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross did it again overall I really enjoyed the movie and I'm going to go see it again soon but I really enjoyed your review in fact I think it's one of the better reviews I've seen of this movie
Great review and discussion 👍

I am positively surprised by how much you understood in this movie as a straight man.
It was very Saltburny to me... beautiful performances by the leads though
