So how come Fairy can show up and take Normal moves and Pokémon, but Cosmic can't show up and do the same? It's not like Psychic is lacking in total number of Pokémon or moves.
Another question - How come Rock and Ground can be separated but not Psychic and Cosmic? Psychic and Cosmic both being present definitely feels far less redundant than Ground and Rock both being present. To further prove this point, Sandstorm is a Rock move, but the other sand moves are all Ground... just because?...

That's specifically why Cosmic Type should be added imo. As it stands right now Psychic has too much going for it "thematically", it stands for actual psychic abilities but also stands for wisdom, but it's also a reality warping type, one of the "light" types and also a "magic type" alongside Fairy + the whole general space theme. It really ends up being one of the "looser" types.

When people say "this type can work, because existing Pokemon already fit it, I think that's the wrong take. You dont need to think about how the existing Pokemon get this type but how it could work in the future. How many designs are limited because you can't get a proper type for it? Light-based pokemon are already well-represented due to the types you mentioned. Why would a space Pokemon have its own type instead of an existing one that still works (clefable with fairy, staryu theoretically with water, deoxys with psychic, Mineor with rock). Just because you are from a different planet than our protagonist, doesn't mean you have to get a different type (see the Ultra Beasts). How far can you get with Sound type without just cloning the same set of speakers or different singing animal? I find normal to be quite fine for Pokemon inspired by this.
So to anyone wanting to design a new type:
    1. Check what existing types need balancing (like dragon pre-gen 6)
    2. What could logically balance this (Fairy tale protagonists for example)
    3. Does it have enough IRL stuff to be based upon (fairy tales, folklore & stuff)
    4. Is it not already covered by the existing types? (Earth type, seriously, we already got 2 types for that)

Pokémon could include light and have it be super effective on normal type because light can cause blindness in ordinary animals, resist fighting because bright light can distract fighters and make it harder for them to see, be super effective on dark and ghost because light removes darkness, in which ghosts are often depicted. Your argument is not only weak, but quite factually incorrect. Light and electricity are completely different.

I don’t think that’s a big issue, it shouldn’t make the change much more difficult to adapt to. I think bobjones does have a point with the fact that they have been around for a very long time. Anyway a lot of type names are already weird and we have gotten used to them, like grass, steel and dark.
I’m now going to go into German type names, you can ignore this if you want.
I’m also German and I just had a look at the German names, which I find has some even weirder ones. Grass is renamed to be the more logical plant type. But then the rest is the same or imo weirder like the dark type is ‘unlicht’ (unlight) which isn’t even in the German dictionary. I assume they chose ‘unlicht’ because, with it not being an official word, its meaning is more flexible. Also the English word dark has more meanings than the German options of ‘Dunkel’ or ‘Dunkelheit’ which are more specific and literal. Then my favourite is psychic, which gets translated into ‘psycho’ and I don’t think I need say more.

While having multiple mechanics like Megas and Dynamax ect would be cool in concept, it'd be to much for any casual player to understand. My justification for getting a new type for me is that it would certainly shake up the game and make for an excellent new experience for the game it's being represented, the Stellar type did just that and it certainly did shake things up a bit.
And plus, it would get boring having the same 18 types for until the end of the franchise (which is probably never) imo so having a new type being added every let's just say, 5 generations would be a great way to introduce something brand new other than story, Pokemon and mechanic. (But there probably should be a limit to these 'new types' if they ever were to happen, I will admit.)

Additionally, as was mentioned in this video, it's hard to imagine what exactly a sound type would have as far as advantageous and disadanteous match ups would even BE -- this is probably a big part of why it hasn't been made a type yet. For all intents and purposes, a sound type could be neutral to most -- if not all other types, there's a problem with doing this: there's already an existing type that is more or less the same way -- specifically the normal type -- so we really don't want another type that's going to be neutral like that, as that would defeat the purpose of creating a new type to begin with. It's also for this reason that the new stellar tera type was made the way it is with the release of the new DLC: it's completely neutral to everything else defensively, and that takes it out of the type chart entirely if your opponent isn't terastallized, thus not really adding anything in such a scenario.

There are actually not a lot of Pokemon that can be Sound type though, like the only ones we have are Whismur line, Chatot and Noibat line. Other candidates either already got a type changed to Fairy (Jigglypuff and Clefairy lines), are starters (Primarina and Rillaboom), its localization name is a problem (Toxtricity literally means Toxic Electricity) and another one is a Psuedo (Kommo-o, which design would make no sense anymore if it isn't Fighting/Dragon anymore). Those Pokemon in itself would never get the type changed to Sound.

My little brother had an idea for a slime type, and I think that’s a good idea because 1, it’s pretty broad with there being lots of gooey or slime-related pokemon, and 2, the type matchups would be easy to understand, like it’d be weak to water because slime dissolves in water and be good against psychic because I’d get pretty scared if I got goo thrown into my face while I was thinking

I never understood the "sound" type. Like at all. As for the "nuclear"type. There's already a fan game that does that. It's super effective against everything except itself and steel types, however it's also weak against everything again except itself. I think there's more to that but I don't fully remember.
Also Pokémon does have a secret type if you really want to call her that. One being the shadow type, however that's only in Pokémon coliseum/XD gal darkness, and Pokémon GO. There's also the "typeless" type. Though only very few Pokémon can get that.

They need to balance the existing types more than anything but if they did add a new type it wouldn't need to be added to existing pokemon cause dark type didn't need to and wouldn't need to make perfect sense cause like how would you assume that bugs are strong to evil and weak to magic or that dirt is weak to ice but water is resistant to it? I would personally like if they added a cell/biological type for pokemon like mew(two), deoxys, solosis, goomy, and zygarde but I would probably be one of like 20 people globally that're happy about it.

I think the main reason people, myself included, want a new type is mainly to help rebalance the type chart; since it can be unbalanced in certain places, like with the Fairy type. Me personally, I have thought of the idea for a Data type of some sort. It'd be heavily themed around modern, more complex machinery and AI. But the issue with making a new type, including the one I thought of, is trying to make the type not overlap with existing types.

Generally when I hear the "Earth" type, I hear it less as a mew type, and more as a revamp to the type chart. Specifically as a blending of Rock and Ground into one more consistent type, since they share so many overlaping traits. The only real downside to this happening would be a potential indirect buff or nerf to the Flying type, depending on if the old Ground moves retain their properties of not being able to hit Flying types, as well as for the Electric type since an arguement could be finally be made to make it resist Electric instead of being immune. Either way, I think the type chart needs a few tweaks. Like a buff to the Ice Type.

  • @Richarrrg
    @Richarrrg 2 месяца назад

I think the two types that are most likely to join Pokémon are the master type and the Tera type.
The master type would be a way of buffing mono-type Pokémon. It would portray mastery in a single type by powerful Pokémon such as Typhlosion, Kyogre, or Machamp. It wouldn’t have any strengths or weaknesses, but it would have benefits for all master type Pokémon- Such as a 50% stab increase for the main type, or enhanced strengths and weaknesses for the main type- Those are just examples. The main idea is to buff powerful mono-type Pokémon, however weak Pokémon such as Luvdisk or non-fully evolved Pokémon would not be master-type. Note that it would be different from other types- Not having attacking moves and having no resistances or vulnerabilities- Although you could be goofy and make it allergic to bugs. Arcius would be the only mono-master Pokémon.
The Tera type (proposed type) would simply be the Pokémon’s Tera type (Hidden power.) This does not have to accompany terastialization- Game Freak may quite possibly keep around some aspect of the gimmick without the full thing in generation 10. Dido could be changed to tera. The vast majority of didos would naturally have a normal Tera-type since normal is fitting for dido.

Obviously Pokémon doesn’t need a new type, but my god new types can open the doors so wide for fakemon concepts. I decided to include a “meal” type in the fakemon region I’m working on (alongside the ever popular sound type), and it’s opened the floodgates for some fakemon designs I’ve been really happy with. Light and time though, feel a little unnecessary. Meal and sound are both concepts that can be taken in a ton of different directions, while Light is pretty specific and time feels more like a theme than a type.

I eventually want to build my own fan game and I'd include both the Sound and Cosmic types:
    Sound
Super Effective Against: Water, Rock, Ground, Psychic, and Steel (all the dense types plus Psychic, which gets distracted by sounds)
Not Very Effective Against: Grass, Ice, and Bug (Grass and Ice absorb sound waves, and Bug doesn't seem too affected by it and often produce a lot of sound)
Ineffective Against: Sound and Cosmic (Sounds cancel each other out, and sound waves can't travel through space
Weak To: Grass, Ice, Bug, Cosmic (Again, all of these either produce or null Sound)
Resists: Water, Rock, Ground, Psychic, Steel, and Fairy (same reasons as super effectives, plus Fairy needs a slight power adjustment and this makes some sense)
    Immune To: Sound
    Cosmic
Super Effective Against: Fire, Flying, Fairy, and Sound (Fire and Flying have no air to stay alive, Sound can't travel in space, and Fairy can't compete with astral threats)
Not Very Effective Against: Ice, Poison, Bug, Dragon, and Dark (Ice and Dark rule the cosmos, Poison and Bug don't care about alien minds, and Dragons are the only beings capable of standing up to astral threats)
Weak To: Ice, Poison, Rock, Dragon, and Dark (Ice and Dark for the absolute zero and black holes in space, Poison for interplanetary viruses, Rock for asteroids, and Dragon for the purposes previously mentioned)
Resists: Fire, Ground, and Psychic (Fire can't touch a cosmic creature due to lack of air, Ground because the creature can often float, Psychic because eldritch threats are impossible to grasp)
    Immune To: Sound
If I had to pick just one of these, I'd pick Sound, as there are more Pokemon than you let on that can be reclassed as Sound-type:
    Igglybuff / Jigglypuff / Wigglytuff (Sound/Fairy)
    Lapras (Water/Sound)
Oddish / Gloom / Bellossom (Bellossom would be Grass/Sound)
    Misdreavous / Mismagius (Ghost/Sound)
Whismur / Loudred / Exploud (Sound)
    Chingling / Chimecho (Sound)
    Kricketot / Kricketune (Bug/Sound)
    Bronzor / Bronzong (Steel/Sound)
    Chatot (Sound/Flying)
    Woobat / Swoobat (Sound/Flying)
    Audino (Normal/Sound)
    Palpitoad / Seismitoad (Water/Sound)
    Maractus (Grass/Sound)
    Meloetta (Sound/Psychic or Sound/Fighting)
    Noibat / Noivern (Sound/Dragon)
    Jangmo-o / Hakamo-o / Kommo-o (Sound/Dragon)
    Toxel / Toxtricity (Poison/Sound)
    Scream Tail (Fairy/Sound)
Fewer* arguments for Cosmic but they're there:
    Staryu / Starmie (Water/Cosmic)
    Unown (Cosmic)
    Teddiursa / Ursaring / Ursaluna (Normal/Cosmic)
    Celebi (Cosmic/Grass)
    Lunatone (Rock/Cosmic)
    Solrock (Rock/Cosmic)
    Absol (Dark/Cosmic)
    Deoxys (Psychic/Cosmic)
    Dialga (Steel/Cosmic)
    Palkia (Water/Cosmic)
    Giratina (Ghost/Cosmic)
    Cresselia (Psychic/Cosmic)
    Arceus (Cosmic)
    Elgyem / Beheeyem (Psychic/Cosmic)

I think they should first balance the type chart as it is. A example from another comment I saw was making Fairy type take super effective damage from normal type because fairy tales don't exist in real life. But If they were to add another type I think a space/cosmic type would work best. I also saw alot of comments saying that it wouldn't work since psychic type already exist. But I think their are enough distinctions to diffrenciate them. Like psychic being more focust on mind and the traditional magic element while cosmic type would more represent the literal physical space i.e stars, blackholes, super novas etc. When it comes to gameplay I could see it being a more attack/special attack focused type with medium defences.

For the sound type it's useless since it has a high relation with the normal type. Most of sound-based moves are normal type, and sound-based pokémon are also normal type.
For the light type being good against dark, listen kids, dark type is not literally darkness. In japanese is called the evil type. Plus light as a whole has a strong relation with the electric type and electricity in general.
For the earth type again useless because rock and ground. Beast Type:
Strong Against - *Grass* (animals are higher on the food chain than plants), *Bug* (there are a LOT more animals that eat bugs than there are bugs that eat animals), *Rock* and *Ground* (many animal species burrow, or otherwise affect the land around them in some way such as being in large herds), *Dark* (it's hard to be scared of the dark when so many animals that aren't humans have at least decent night vision, and just as many if not more are fantastic noctural predators.)
Weak Against - *Steel* (hunting and poaching have lead to many an extinction), *Poison* (pesticides and other poisons often kill them by accident, let alone when it's intended), *Fire* (wildfires often displace them and leave them without homes), *Fighting* (animal abuse).
Resisted By - *Steel,* *Poison,* *Fire.* Fighting DOESN'T resist.

Some things not a lot of people touch on with the idea of a Sound type in particular are the ramifications it would have on dual type pokemon, non-normal sound moves, and the effects on the normal type.
There are quite a few pokemon that have existing dual types but could be sound types, even ignoring part normal types, like Meloetta, since the very premise of a sound type requires removing sound from the normal type's sphere of influence.
Should Bronzong lose its steel type or its psychic type? It'd be inconsistent to not change it since Chimecho and Chingling would be gaining the sound type. Do the Swoobat or Noivern lines become sound type? Lapras' Gmax form is associated with music, should it become sound type? What about Kommo-o? And Seismitoad is one of the few clear options for a physically-oriented sound type, which of its types sound it lose? Do Primarina and Skeledirge lose their Fairy and Ghost types, despite these being very much part of their designs? If Primarina becomes Water/Sound, does Liquid Voice now just lock it out of one of its STAB options? How about Toxtricity, what happens to its unique type combination clearly referenced within its name? Heck, Ludicolo is associated with dance and thus sound, should it change types?
So many sound-based moves have a typing that already fits them just as well as a sound type would. Bug buzz, Disarming Voice, Overdrive, Clanging Scales, Sparkling Aria, Chatter, Torch Song, Psychic Noise, etc.. Where do you draw the line as to which moves get their types changed, and which don't? Signature moves in particular have this issue. There's a reason that the only three damaging moves that have changed types are bite, karate chop, and gust, the latter two of which objectively should have been their current types to begin with.
Perhaps most importantly, think about special normal moves. The first thing to come to mind is probably a sound-based move. Change the type of those moves, and specially-oriented normal types are left with almost no decent STAB options unless they have a signature move. There's pretty much just Tri Attack or Hyper Beam. I'm not gonna count Tera Blast, since we have no idea what's going to happen to it when Terastalization is inevitably replaced by a new gimmick.
We need *more* special normal moves(or at least buffs to existing ones. Like, does Razor wind really need to be an 80 base power two-turn move, actively weaker than other high-crit rate moves that only take one turn, like Leaf Blade? Does Trump Card really need to start off at 40 base power?), not less.
Sound type might have worked if it was there from the get go, or at least added early on(Say, alongside dark and steel or in gen 3 at the latest). Now, it makes about as much sense as a punch or kick type distinct from the fighting type. It doesn't need to be anything more than it already is, and it becoming its own type would ultimately cause far more harm than good.

I think there should be clear distinction and interactions between "move types" instead of adding a new type. Moves already have a special interaction with abilities. It would be cool to have actual categories and more interactions that goes beyond just power-boosting abilities.
Sound moves already go through substitute. But what about biting moves, slicing moves, multi-hit, priority, or even contact and non-contact moves? We already have abilities that interact with these like sharpness, strong jaw, flame body, or static. Why not expand on it and categorize it?
Hell, why not add more move types and categories? Delayed, crushing, charged moves, pursuit moves, pivot, etc. Each that has their own special interaction in each weather, room moves, and status effects.
Burn could be spread through contact but only for a couple turns. Being paralyzed and using a contact move could add extra damage against water and flying types. Wonder room could make multi-hit hit 4-5 times instead of 1-5. Electric terrain could boost sound moves damage and make it super effective to water types. Gravity could increase crushing moves power. Pursuit moves could fail in snow. Delayed moves could fail in psychic terrain.
There's so much potential for untapped complexity that could change competitive pokemon and may even make some old pokemons more viable.
Imagine how much strange, gimmicky, and distinct teams would be if it was properly implemented. Then again, people would probably just spam urhisfu in tournaments... But hey, at least we have a buffed electric terrain to potentially counter that!

My opinion on some of these hypothetical types: Sound would be only for moves, with moves such as Snarl becoming new double-typed moves (like Flying Press).
Light would probably be like some sort of mini-sub-type sort of thing. It would counter Dark, and be mostly for moves like the last type. I feel it would also be cool if there were some sort of abilities for Grass-types, that work similarly to the Absorb Bulb item or Volt Absorb. Time would probably also have some ties to that with Grass-type absorbing, because of plant growth, but that's kind of too much buffs for Grass-types, so if it were to happen, would be one or the other.
I feel like Cosmic would just be a mix of Poison and Psychic because of the whole extraterrestrial stuff and space having ties with radiation.
That's about all my thoughts on this I have to share.
Also I find it funny how some think Dark and Light would be simultaneously be stronger than each other because if you somehow plop darkness in a light room, it's not gonna just consume the light, the light will just decimate the darkness within milliseconds. Unless some Plantern crap gets involved, then this boat of thought is sank.

Dark, Steel and Fairy were added to balance the type chart. The most critical change to the type chart, IMHO, is to give Electric another weakness. The easiest thing is the Rubber type, which has pretty easy weaknesses - it's weak to Fire, Ice and Steel (cuts it). Other than Electric, it can be super effective against Water (because it floats), which is another bonus, as well as Fighting, and there's an existing version that is super effective against Poison, but I don't really understand why. Three advantages and three disadvantages are enough anyway.
The big problem is that there aren't many existing mons that can become Rubber. Maybe Ditto, but it would lost its specialty. Grimer and Muk, maybe the Goodra line? There just aren't many choices, and this isn't gen 2 where you don't have to make any previous mons Dark.

Slugma would be a good fire/goo type and it could have a branched evolution with no shell, that keeps that type. Whilst there are a lot of good options, that are obvious, like grimer, others like lickitung could be normal slime as they use sticky based abilities.

      Slurpuff only, fairy/slime
      Goomy, dragon/slime

There were 22 old pokemon that became fairy type in gen 6,if you don't count megas, so I think slime would add enough new pokemon 100%

      Also maybes include:
      gulpin and swallot as poison/slime
      Milcery and alcremie as fairy/slime

When I say I want a Light type, I don't mean I want 100 Pokémon to have it. I'd want it to be extremely rare and an EVENT when a Pokémon has it, like how Xenoblade 2 treats it's light element. Arceus, Necrozma, and Ampharos (if we take Literal light into account) are the only 2 that makes sense to have it, but I've also always thought of a regional Gardevoir and Gallade based off of a nun and a monk to have Light type as well.
Additionally, there would only be a handful of moves too. Judgement and whatever Necrozma's signature move is would probably get edited to be light, and like, maybe 5 other moves would be added.

Normal is just fine for Sound. Psychic is fine for Cosmic. Fairy is basically Light. Aside from tweak to currently existing type interactions on the type chart, I have yet to see an idea that’s necessary.

3:58 who’s gonna tell him Pokémon uranium did this actually pretty well, but A little too rare to even be seen
I think only sound makes real sense since there’s also another game that does it well too 😂

As many have commented, we don't need a new type we need type chart revisions
Bug should be neutral to ghost and super effective to fairy
Poison should be super effective to water
Ice should resist electric, flying and water
Ghost should resist steel (like how is a ghost neutral to being hit by metal? Like you ever tried to stab a ghost with a sword? Doesn't do much)
I think these changes are pretty balanced overall but I'm no expert

As a science nerd, I would love to see a nano/quantum type. This could encompass radiaton, wave attacks as in sound, and just "non-magic magic" in contrast to psychic and fairy. I'd put the magnemite line in it. Necrozma. Maybe even Luxray.
