You are not wrong! I am a drummer with over 40 years of experience, and I wish that I was half as good. He's tight and fluent. Thin Lizzy's swing and groove would not be the same without him. He's in my top 5 with Simon Phillips, John Bonham, Billy Cobham and Vinnie Colaiuta. I do not like drum solo's but he is an exception to the rule. Awesome. Please feel free to disagree with my five. Paul Thompson (of Roxy Music) nearly made it, along with Steve Gadd, Simon Kirke (of Free) and Tony Thompson. But there are others, some of Prince's drummers and John Robinson who played with Michael Jackson (and for Quincy Jones). We will have to make it a top ten then. Live Downey makes the top three.
Brian is such a wonderful drummer - I just saw them last year in Amsterdam, and his solo was one of the best I've ever seen. He really has a nice snare technique.
I have listened to classic rock my whole life and I like to think I know a good drummer when I hear one. Brian Downey is one of the few who made me look at the speakers and say ' wow who is that drummer?'
I've always been a huge scott gorham fan.he's one of those really honest guitar players. If you remember all the early stuff....fighting/night life etc....he was really sweet and wonderefully melodic.
I only know the one song..and man I love that song. That song is perfect because it's kinda comedic and it's music of course...comedy and good music mixed...what more could you want? Oh also don't forget it gives you the perfect happy feels!
Funny when Scott talks about the magical England, when the band were Irish with a Scot on guitar. Mmmmnnn (i'm English BTW - but it just shows U.S. misunderstandings yet again)

Brian's a Gers fan, one of the many who don't come out of the closet in the Celtic-leaning world of showbiz... but, dear Brian, you've almost lost yer accent!!! Nae guid!!!
I like Scott Gorham, he's definitely one of the most underrated guitarists out there.
Brian Downey is my favourite rock drummer.
Yeah, he just seemed to get better and better as the band went along
He is a terrific drummer!
Definitely my second next to Levon Helm. Apples and Oranges though, nobody can/could hold down a groove liker Downey!
downey is the best of his type of drummer he makes it look so easy its as if he hardly breaks a sweat brilliant awesome and does not miss a beat.

Robbo and Scott are the best guitar duo in history. In their heydays, Scott had the best hair ever and Robbo had the best wah tone ever.
Scott Gorham is a very well spoken and guy that speaks with a great storytelling manner and an honest retrospection. Brian Downey too,
Most underrated drummer in the world
I love that this comment section realises Downey's excellence..btw your username? Foreshadowing?😕
Edit-- May i steal it for a band name?
So true also the band aswell

Brain's band live and dangerious is very good if not the best and sound is spot on.
Brian Robertson is one of the best guitarist. I love Gorham & Moore but Brian was my #1 !!!
definitely
Gary Moore was vastly more skilled.
Nah you think?? @neilshanahan8217

Great posts. Thanks for the whole interview.
still love this music!!
im from ireland live in mayo
Scott looks like David Coverdale now
@raelarise not if you listened to the whole video when he describes meeting Thin Lizzy in London.
"Tin Lizzy" is actually an old nickname for a Model T Ford.
Funny when Scott talks about the magical England, when the band were Irish with a Scot on guitar. Mmmmnnn (i'm English BTW - but it just shows U.S. misunderstandings yet again)
Alan Lloyd wow! A lil bit triggered?
Scot Gorham is American and Brian Robertson is Scotish .
Phil was born in England .
Not so Irish after all .
From Ireland
Nice interview, but it was edited with a carrot. Why did they zoom in on Downeys pelvis? Lol
Great drummer 🥢
booom!! (the title)
XD XD XD
and brian is not?

Why do they keep showing Downey's lap area?

Did Eric Bell come back for the second live album?
He was on the Life album on the last few songs. The last song is The Rocker. No Whiskey though…
He is 51 in this video!
Where the FUCK IS ' THIS MYSTICAL ISLAND CALLED ENGLAND'???
Great interview, with the most annoying editing ever lol
For 2 sec you just see Downey's mouth, or hands, or crotch, in monochrome.
Uhm thanx...
Brian's a Gers fan, one of the many who don't come out of the closet in the Celtic-leaning world of showbiz... but, dear Brian, you've almost lost yer accent!!! Nae guid!!!
Come out of the closet/ you tryign to say Brian is gay? I know he was married twice and an old online friend had an affair with him
@@batphink2655 Why can't you understand football?
The Gers are the mighty Glasgow Rangers...
Great interview, don't get me wrong...it's just that all the crotch shots are kinda distracting and unnecessary. Otherwise, it's AWESOME,
Ha ha. Gorham looks awful thin here......I don't know... I'm thinking drugs
We Americans are fully aware that Thin Lizzy is from France.....so don't say we misunderstand. THIN LIZZY is the best French band ever!!!
Alan Lloyd shut up
HAHAH funny guy
