Hello everyone!! Today I'm posting a bit of a different video... an animation meme!! The first one I've made in YEARS! And it's of my own characters! This is a meme I've always liked so I thought it would be cool to give it a try! Plus... the characters are ghosts so it's kind of fitting.
The story behind this is Spooky, the black cat, gets hit by a car and becomes a ghost. He doesn't actually know he's dead for the first few minutes though, as he was killed instantly. As he's wandering around in the forest he runs into another ghost cat, Cream, who is really excited to find him because she's usually in the forest by herself and is happy to find a potential friend. Spooky, now realizing he's dead and is a ghost, kind of freaks out initially. And that's about all I could show in the meme but... this story of mine has been in development for just over 4 years now so there's definitely a LOT more. These characters are honestly my life at this point haha. Can't give too much away in one video though!
You may also notice that the animation style is quite different than my usual stuff, and that's for a few reasons, those reasons being:
1. A lot of the industry in North America uses rigs rather than traditional animation, just a sad fact. So I wanted to experiment and get more experienced with this type of animation, so I thought it would be cool to try out a partially tweened style, kind of like my Bluestar animation!
2. It's a bit more cartoony than my usual style because, well... I wanted to go for a cartoony look! That's also why I made it in a partially tweened style, because many cartoons are entirely rigged/tweened.
3. I wanted to see your responses to the style in a relatively simple project before working on something much bigger in a similar style! I want to make a series based on these characters in the very near future and so I thought it would be fitting to make them and the backgrounds look a bit more cartoony, so it's more like an actual cartoon. I see a few things I would fix up for later projects in this style but I just want to see if you guys think this style is fitting overall--that way I can know if I should use this style for the upcoming trailer I have planned for these guys!
4. I wanted to start to introduce you guys to non-Warriors content before getting into a huge project with these characters. Thought I'd start off with something simple and cute before suddenly coming up with a trailer and/or something bigger out of nowhere!
So overall it's not the most polished animation--a lot of areas I could clean up but I just made this in a few days before heading out of the country tomorrow to kind of experiment with it, learn from it, and see what you guys thought of the style before making something too detailed!! I hope you guys like it!

I love the simpler/cartoony style a lot, I think it really fits the project so well

Idk if its just me but when I watch the video Spooky looks brown instead of black.

Good on you for trying out rigs! They are very daunting and I think you did a great job!
One little thing I'm a bit curious of, what frame rate are you using? Is it still 24 frames per second? I noticed this in your Domino Claw video as well, it feels like things are moving on fast forward strangely. Using different frame rates or even changing from working on 2's to 1's I find can make your sense of spacing that your used to not work for the new timing.
Just an observation, not necessarily a bad thing! Overall, regardless of the reason, I would suggest giving yourself more time for actions to help the characters movements read a bit better.

I'm still working with 24 frames per second and I neeeeveeer work on 2's (unless the style is specifically supposed to be a lower frame rate) because when I mix 1s and 2s together it's usually super jarring and noticeable (unless it's the second to last frame during ease in/out) when I do. I can definitely see where you're coming from though with this (and the Dominoclaw animation) because I did consider making the "I don't believe in ghosts" part slower but... I don't know if I should be admitting to this haha, but I just ignored it because I wanted to release it before I went on vacation... and I wanted to post SOMETHING with these characters because I was afraid people wouldn't appreciate it if I just suddenly released a trailer later on out of the blue, so I... sort of finished this up quickly haha.
I proooobably should and will fix stuff like that in the future when I notice it, it's good to have this stuff pointed out because it prevents me from taking shortcuts I guess knowing that other people see it too, haha. Thank you for the tips and suggestions!

Also I didnt notice how well this would go with me and my cat (one day he didnt come back when I called him for a few days) and just a month ago there was this other cat that was just attacted to me after I fed it and it looks almost exactly like my old cat. Like the face and there was this special line going from the side of her face to her left eye which was an exact patter from my old cat. (I have pictures) but like if I made this into an animation that is the story I would put ;_;

Would it make sense for a character who was dead but revived to have been a ghost for the period they're dead? Just cause I have an OC who died bc a horrible creature, and they were dead for at least a year, and they became the ghost king. They're name is "Parrot", and I wanna upload a speedpaint of them at some point.
Also when people say they dont believe in ghosts, Parrot summons some ghosts using a special whistle not normally possible by physical beings.
