Love the super loose style. This could be done with a hibiscus, hollyhock, really anything that looks like it has one petal. Flowers are so interesting…. As the hollyhock definitely has more than one petal! They even have some called double hollyhocks, those are crazy. Love this loose style!
This is beautiful Emma, Hollihocks grow like weeds in many parts of Canada so I take them for granted. Now I can see how interesting they are as a subject and will have to give painting one a try. TFS
Thank you Emma. I have been watching Several people painting hollyhocks, and I couldn’t Get them to look right. You have helped me soo much. God Bless I feel more confident to try again.
You make it look so easy! I love your easy-going way of approaching painting. It is about the enjoyment and personal satisfaction. Could you do a sunflower painting in the future? Thanks for sharing your talent!
I was gonna say too…. I actually love to get to know my flower before I paint it, as it provides me with a wealth of knowledge on how to accurately portray it….. but this is loose and it’s lovely!
Hi Emma 👋 you always demonstrate your art work so well thank you I do appreciate that 👍 I loved your art work in this tutorial as I always do in all of your wonderful tutorials thank you so much for taking the time to share .....all the best Lin x
Emma, I love your method of teaching. I am new to watercolor and have been watching many different artists to learn many techniques. I have observed many people in the industry hold their brushes the same. Is there a preference to how to hold your brush? Thanks Linda
Follow her on IG and she shows you her struggles to! Lol! It takes a lot of practice and patience! My paintings today are much better than 6 months ago (thanks a bunch to Emma for the helpful tutorials!) But something i realized is, even if they "suck", i made it. Its one of a kind, one time piece made only by me. No one but my family might truly appreciate that,... but i give my kids or my sisters or my grandparents anything I made and its always kept for years to come! 😁 keep practicing and always keep your work! You'll be happy to have a comparison in 6 months! 😌✊
each time i try a painting, I try to take at least one lesson from it that I realize --- like "oh, i should have mixed that color ahead of time" or.. "i should have waited for that to dry" -- you have to be willing to make mistakes and within time it will make a difference. I am a total newbie to watercolor so I get what you're saying!!
I wish I could send you a lot of hollyhock seeds I have white through to almost black the almost black are taller than me and called watchman. They shine in the sun with iridecent hues on the petals almost like bird feathers 💞💞💞 You need hollyhocks in your life ... trust me 😂😉 The blooms come out in successionn and have lovely round disc seeds with a nibble out of them . They form in a ring almost like a doughnut . They are worth a painting on their own lol 😍😘 Thankyou
Hi Emma, how do you find time with a baby? I have a 2.5 month old and it’s impossible to get time for myself with all the chores waiting for me once I get a free hand.
Emma, what size paper are you using? Your hand looks so tiny compared to the bottom portion of flowers! LOL. Beautiful job. You're a plucky brave soldier for diving into such complex florals. And congrats on the FIFTY THOUSAND SUBSCRIBERS! You need to start charging $2 a month. You'll change the lives of your followers and yourself. Do it! You need to, you're amazing, Emma. (and my sister and I are still swimming in art supplies if you want that fun surprise art box sent to you. Just let us know). GREAT hollyhocks! Fanna Turano Denver, CO
Love your tutorials, I will will have to try this one. I did the fruit ones after I watched. Since we are doing some requests, how about painting bubbles, I have been trying to paint them without a lot of success.
Emma uses student grade for lessons, and the "good stuff" for her "real" art, things she wants to show or sell. You didn't ask me, but I wondered about this too. She used to use her good paints for a long while, but I have Cotman paints I also use for demos, color sketches, etc. My good paints would be a huge loss for such things. But Emma does AMAZING tricks with those Cotman colors, doesn't she? Wow!

What paint palette are you using
Marsh Madoodle all of my supplies are listed in the description
Can you please give a lesson on a beach/ocean
Love Hollyhocks. Why are you using student grade paints? Cotman are not artist grade. But like your lessons.

Also because they are cheaper!
@@EmmaLefebvre A-yup. Agreed. And next to nothing in the line of guilt!
