ra saket Japanese pronounces "chinese characters" (aka Kanji) differently to Chinese. In the most basic terms, written japanese uses a combination of these Kanji AND two variants of alphabet - Hiragana, being the native alphabet, and Katakana, being a "translation" alphabet used for foreign words. I would highly suggest trying to find Japanese courses online. :D
I believe the purpose is to allow communication. Speaking a language is not as helpful as speaking the language. If you were traveling being able to read street signs. She also said a lot of the language is contextual meaning that the way things are presented and understanding of culture is required to be able to communicate clearly. So she has given a basic starting place of how the language is structured. I have the distinct impression that without the context of how the characters are superimposed the ability to learn spoken Mandarin would be near impossible because the context of a characters use alters how the words are pronounced. So were learning the context.
such an ancient writing system. The whole world uses phonetic alphabets except for china uses this damn shit. memorize how many? 50,000+ fucking characters? It's only making china more isolated
I have recently brought two of your books but this video really made the books come alive. Your enthusiasm and your presentation style were wonderful, thank you very much from London. And I agree that the origins of some of the female related characters are sexist by today’s standards 👍🏻

木 means wood , not tree; 树 means tree. Again, 門 is traditional Chinese, if u want the simplified form here it is: 门 从 usually means “from” e.g. 他从那边来的。 牢 is usually put as 2 牢牢: to hold on tight or to remember better. A pig is 猪

First fu can mean MANY different things like 妇 means woman, this fu 付 means pay. Not just one single meaning, depends on the tone and sometimes two different words will have the same tone so you have to understand them in context.

I have started learning Chinese Mandarin a while a go with several Apps and online courses. Chineasy brought me forward much faster any other App.
the real difference is the methodology they use. They guide you through the characters and the grammar in a very intuitive way
This was one of the most amazing things I've ever seen on RUclips. I'm pretty much astonished right now.
What an amazing video! We appreciate it alot! Please if you wouldn't mind add the pronunciation of the Chinese character to the greatest teaching , it would perfect and more informative in this way! Xiexie!
Wow!!! This video was really clear, charming and magical!!! Love this culture and language! ❤️❤️❤️
the most wonderful way to explain Chinese characters....kudos to the video makers. got all the more excited about learning Chinese
What about the Chinese pronunciation?
This is only teaching written Mandarin...
I like it very much thank you. You explain the chinese in a easy way. I want to learn more. Can you tell us japanese? Very-very thank you.
ra saket
Japanese pronounces "chinese characters" (aka Kanji) differently to Chinese.
Loco Garner Mandarin and Cantonese and Wu and Shanghai written the same
so easy because im Chinese hahaha
WTF!!,
Lol same
Hello fellow Chinese
such an ancient writing system. The whole world uses phonetic alphabets except for china uses this damn shit. memorize how many? 50,000+ fucking characters? It's only making china more isolated
Cutie pie As long as you memorize the words like 2000. You don’t need to memorize all of the words x.x
I have recently brought two of your books but this video really made the books come alive. Your enthusiasm and your presentation style were wonderful, thank you very much from London. And I agree that the origins of some of the female related characters are sexist by today’s standards 👍🏻
My Mandarin teacher showed the class this. I love it! It's so easy!
It is amazing how you teach Chinese!
YOU ARE VERY SMART!
The problem is the ping yin....This is a really good way to learn how to know the meaning but the pinyin is important too.
Stephanie Luu
Why did they change pinyin? The old spelling was so much easier for English speakers. It's not difficult to remember how to pronounce "Zh" and "q"
I meant it IS difficult.
I spent 4 years in Taiwan, it's my second homeland. I always enjoyed the stories behind each caracteres and your creativity makes it reachable for all. Thanks a lot!!!
Hi Christel,
So glad we could help. We've also got a Chinese-learning app. Feel free to check it out. :)

Thank you, Yuba!

The symbol for “wife” had me laughing so much, I had to pause the vid!!!! You are brilliant by the way! The most clever learning tool I’ve ever seen.
just like in spanish u have handcuff = wife
Wow! This is fantastic! I never thought that learning chinese is so much fun!
It’s ok, but this is only for a start.
Yep chinese is fun to learn. If u are using traditional chinese, the words are like drawings.
When you actually study Chinese in school it's hell
木 means wood , not tree; 树 means tree.
Again, 門 is traditional Chinese, if u want the simplified form here it is: 门
从 usually means “from” e.g. 他从那边来的。
牢 is usually put as 2 牢牢: to hold on tight or to remember better.
A pig is 猪
I laughed at "double up too much and you have a wife"😂😂😂 the illustration is very good. Please continue to make more videos.😍😊
I was learnt basic manderin Chinese characters in Beijin, China Agri. Univesty so its very useful to upgrade my study with Chinese characters and langauge skill.
I just wish that you would tell us the pronunciation of the chinese words. I really appreciate the characters, but I want the pronunciation.
Jason Thornt
They're teaching Chinese, not mandarin.
well uh person is ren
tai is too much
man is fu
First fu can mean MANY different things like 妇 means woman, this fu 付 means pay. Not just one single meaning, depends on the tone and sometimes two different words will have the same tone so you have to understand them in context.
not MANY more like 5
but yeah i know its just really easy to forget what tone it is
Fascinating and what a fun way to break down the characters to help people learn.
Chinese is such a beautiful language. I really wanna learn this language
hi, welcome to join our group to learn Chinese, my facebook is darling chinese club.
Did you learn it or not yet?

Hello I'm from India
Can u plzz suggest me the best way to learn Mandarin
I've learned Spanish korean English
And my 2 native languages
And now I'm struggling with mandarin but it is quite tough
@@arpitamukherjee9755 Listen, that is the best way i can tell you. Nowadays its more common to speak than write so learning these characters might nott help so much if you want to travel or anything
@@hongwei2635 I want to be an interpreter so I need to be fluent in it and no one here speak mandarin so what should I do???
Any suggestions
Hola@@shariff6155 , quiero ser intérprete, así que estoy aprendiendo varios idiomas
I love learning Chinese
God bless you.You are a very good teacher.Bless your parents who gave you a good foundation.
She is Such an excellent teacher 😘
so easy I'm so fun to learn thank you if tutorials are like this I would master Chinese in 3 days
It seems easy only for the first characters.
The majority are more abstract and complexe.
That's true :(
Most of them are composed with the ones she just showed. Just like 日 月 明,火 烧 烤...
@@陈亦之-w8n yup those are called radicals
Yes, this video is a good start for ppl who never had contact with chinese, but after that we learn that chinese is hard af lol
Because it is explained with modern interest, it is naturally not coherent and logical.
If you are interested in the evolution of Chinese, you should browse this video. It uses textual research based on the evolution of different periods to demonstrate, this is the correct study.

Prophet a person who speaks by devine inspiration, revealing or interpreting the will of God, particularly used in the bible properly????
What a lovely way to learn Chinese, hope those who learn Chinese can pay attention to the Chinese dubbing app, which simplifies the difficulty of Chinese learning as much as possible, and also grades and corrects pronunciation.

After watching her on ted talk, wow it's like chinese made easy😀
I've learned 50 Chinese words in Pinyin and I cant remember the character so this really helped
Saw the short version of the intro to Chinese characters when you did the TED Talk. Very entertaining and informative.

I would like to learn Mandarin. You arę my godess! Thank you!
I actually learning Japanese but Kanji is very hard for me so I found this. Very good example. It made me forget how difficult it was before.
Hi Khalida, glad we could help. If you'd like more resources, feel free to check out our site: www.chineasy.com/product/japaneasy-coloring-book/. :)
One the most orignal Chinese lesson !!! Bravo …I want more with you as teacher !!!
Hi Louis, so glad that you like the lesson. Feel free to check our site for more learning resources. www.chineasy.com/ :)
Mehhh I'm Chinese... AND GOSH Chinese seems difficult after I watched this...
Green Apple :v mi no saber
Green Apple why do you say that?
Well, it sure ain´t easy to learn the writing system. Learning to speak the basics is not that hard though. Speaking well is, as in all languages, a difficult feat to achieve as a non-native.
can only laugh after reading ur comment
Green Apple Ikr. But the hard thing is that many words have many meanings.
really easy since I'm already intermediate Japanese!
Yeah these characters have exactly the same meanings in Japanese but with different pronunciations haha
cool, I also creating character stories with Korean hangul. Maybe I can use a bit of this also for my korean study. Thanks
This video is by far the most creative langauge video I have seen.
excelente idea!! debería salir en muchos idiomas, como en español por ejemplo/ excellent idea !!You should go in many languages, such as Spanish
exequiel lastra And how would you make drawings to explain A-B-C Spanish characters ? :)
nominal6 I think he refers to Spanish subtitles o.O
+exequiel lastra i think the class required to learn chinese is the english !!! ja jaja
+exequiel lastra *It should go...*
+exequiel lastra Pero en el Chino, las palabras son caracteres, como "dibujos". Cómo se supone que se podría hacer igual con el lenguaje español, si la palabra es el compuesto de varias letras?
