Great review Dustin! I wear a pair of Juuse Saros' one piece true skates and I have to say, I agree with almost everything you said about them in your review. You did a great job of describing what True does very well and what they could do to improve them. The only other issue I've had with the blade holder is the chipping has caused blade chatter. I did send them to True for a repair. They only charged $50, which I thought was reasonable, and it was only because I was not the original purchaser. Worked for awhile, but it's starting to do the same thing again. Still a great skate and I'm really happy I got a chance to try them out. Thanks for sharing your review! I really enjoyed it.
Nice!! Did you get the ones with the white tie caps?? And yeah I had some issues with chatter before going down to the 5/8 hollow. I still get this sound from them every once in a while now
@@BonesyTV no, they are black caps, but I really like the looks of the white toe caps. They really pop! I use 5/8"hollow. I think the carbon fiber blade holder was just not built to withstand the abuse for prolonged periods, which is a shame, because the skate is basically a paper weight without the holder. Still they are super comfortable and have completely elevated my game. Thanks for giving them a fair and honest review.
I have a set of true skates right now, got them almost a year ago july 2020. The liner ripped in march 2021, and am waiting on a new pair at no cost. No other issues with them, amazing brand.
NGL was expecting a biased review with corporate sales, but shockingly surprised. Great video bud! Cheers. Hope the TRUE (lefevre) gear doesnt' follow suit like the skates they slowly made worse when they bought VH
I’m a huge fan of these skates but just like anything else they’re not perfect. And I feel the same way about the lefevre stuff. Been using their gear for a while and I really like where they are right now so hopefully they can at least stay that way or even improve somehow. But thanks buddy! Cheers
Nice one Bonesy, love that Preds logo on the runners too. Curious if you've tried skipping the second eyelet, I used to do that on my Reactors to alleviate lace bite and ankle pain. Might need to start doing it on my 2X Pros as well.
Bones, Have you had to change the blade profiling of the one piece True skates??? Just wondering because I am thinking about ordering a pair. I am in Graf's now and skate on a 65/125 CAG profile.
Sorry for bombarding ya with questions, just found your page haha. How do you get your pads to sit so tall up on your skate? Been trying to figure out how to for awhile now
Glad I came across this review. I just picked up a 2nd hand pair for my 17yr old son and we’re gonna go down to the 5/8” instead of 1/2” to reduce the “chatter”. I assume you can re bake them no problem and do the wrap at the top of the ankle like I see True doing with brand new skates?
One con you didn’t mention would be if your foot changes shape with weight and /or age, and you need to replace them, I don’t suppose there’s any resale option since they are built for your foot only? Prolly won’t find any used True’s at Play it Again Sports? ;)
I’m a fan of older skates. Maybe if someone gave me a pair to try ....I’m a true 6.5 and some ccm skates a 5.5 so it makes me think maybe I should try the true skates to see what I can wear and see a difference.
@@BonesyTV I think you are right. Other than a couple of skates on the ODR I was only able to play 5 games in September. Other than that we have been off for a year as of March 13th. I have been doing some training off ice but I think it's time to get more goalie specific training.
I've got a pair of OG VH custom's with a Bauer Vertex cowling, these (1 piece skates )were not even out when I got my VH's and they're still going strong. Although thanks to your video, now I gotta figure out how to get a new tongue because I'm experiencing the exact same issues with lace bite ect. So this problem isn't unique to the carbon 1-pieces. Also, Bonesy, do you lace your skates all the way up, or leave 1-2 eyelets undone? Cheers.
I remember wanting a pair of the VH with the Vertex holder and I’ve heard a lot of good thing about the ole VH quality. But definitely try getting some new tongues for the lace bite. The thicker ones were like pillows when I first put them in. But I leave the top eyelet undone. They’re a little too stiff when I go all the way up and a touch too much flex when I leave two undone. What about you?
@@BonesyTV I do the same, one eye down. I find my butterfly is a bit easier to hold wide with that extra ankle flexion, but I'm also not a pro athlete like you, just a lowly beer leaguer. ;)
Love mine, only shates that ever fit me right and didn’t kill my feet. And can feel more power, had to go from 1/2 to 9/16 and still there. Only wish I didn’t have to kill myself to put them on my feet. And they can be noisy when stopping. Came from my Bauer 5000 cowlings from 25yrs ago
Yeah I used to get some pretty bad chatter before dropping down in my sharpening. I still get the occasional “dying walrus” sounds from time to time though
I'm switching from a 2 piece true to a one piece. I guess you can't use prolaces with the 1 piece? How much slack do you have at your toe laces? Thanks,
Yeah you have to get the longer ones for the one piece. Or you’ll have to get creative. I use to use a ton of slack but I’ve since dialed it back a bit. I’d say about three inches or so?
Great review and came to the same consensus as you on the True One Piece Skates. My left skate was cracking and splitting near the cut outs after two years. I contacted True and they had me send the skates to them. They were able to repair the cracks and splitting for a very reasonable cost and I received my skates back about a week later.
In the forward pitching two piece skates I had before these I just felt like my balance was standing too far forward so the neutral pitch felt more at home and comparable to the cowling skates I was used to wearing
I have the two piece, but found the step holder too tall. I was wobbly... went to old school cowl much lower to the ice. Wayyy better. For me anyway. Comfy fit though. I HATE putting them on... 😁. It is nice once they are on. Not sure I’d be using Pekkas funky old wheels, but...😁👊🏾
Yeah I didn’t like the tall holder either. It felt like standing on stilts. But that’s a perk of the two piece. Being able to swap holders to get the feel you need
(IMHO) I'll add 2 more CON: weights. It's much heavier than any current skates AND gotta really push to get full performance out of it - you gotta be a strong skater.
Question- my left ankle is killing me wearing these skates, any help on what i need to do in order to stop this pain? When i am in the butterfly and push off its like i want to get off the ice it hurts so bad.
Appreciate the new videos bud

Great review bonesy but I think I’ll stick with my CCM’s. Oh yeah nice audio 😉
Looks like you’ve been loving those. And thanks for the input. Pretty happy with the new upgrade
You need to have a less hollow blade with 4mm than a 3mm because the 4mm gets more hollow.
Thats not the reason you need to go down a sharpening in these skates.

That’s a feature with the L20.1 pads. They sit higher on the shin to allow more room for the ankle
