*This trip was 6 weeks before my knee injury if anyone is puzzled about that.* I took the filming easy on this trip to just enjoy the company (before the knee injury I wasn't even going to post this) so check out Brad and Xander's videos. Brad's vid: ruclips.net/video/Ke8Ti96qy_U/видео.html Xander's vid: ruclips.net/video/JBUw4Xz_Oi0/видео.html *Injury update as of March 12* (21 days after the injury): Finally got an MRI appointment for early April. It's most likely a meniscal tear. Can hobble without crutches, can't straighten my leg. No timeline for when I can camp again but I'm hoping in a couple more weeks I can at least camp in the bush by my car. If you're wondering why I was still camping if my knee was bugging me, here's why: -I'm self-employed and do this for a living so I can't just say "I guess I won't work for weeks or months until I feel perfect." -This issue has nagged at me from time to time over the last 5 years since the original knee injury at hockey, but had always resolved itself. -I'd been seeing doctors and had an xray and ultrasound in the weeks leading up to the injury since it had been acting up, but there was nothing identifiable for them to treat. -Erin and I also did the injury trip near a snowmobile trail for safety, knowing that it could act up. -Ironically I had been stretching and strengthening and finally trying to take care of it lately. And I bought the skis to try to help as snowshoes seem to aggravate it (skis felt great until the injury) as well as a knee brace which I was wearing during the injury 😣 -On the trip where it got hurt, my knee felt completely fine...no warning signs.
I’ve had ACL surgeries on both knees; hasn’t slowed me much at all, especially my canoe 🛶 adventures. I’m planning a 2,200 mile (3,540 km) backpacking adventure currently. You will be fine!
Those are light pillars at the end! A really really amazing natural phenomenon when the atmosphere gets so cold theres ice crystals that reflect the light that illuminates from below and creates these beautiful vertical pillars of lights. Cool sighting! Great adventure as always Jon!
Oklahoma Gal here!! An old Oklahoma Gal!!🤣 I just want to tell all you young men I might be old enough to be your your Mama but I really enjoy watching your camp trips!! Keep on keepin on doing what makes your hearts smile!!❤️❤️❤️❤️
Ya"ll look like ya"ll having so much fun...such a beautiful place and some good eating!!! I hope for you good health and I hope your knee gets better!!!
Xandorf Budnark, Aspiring youtuber. SOB! I spit coffee all over my keyboard. Only good friends can be so mean to each other! :) Another great video. All the best with knee.
Love this trio! Lots of laughs and brotherly love. "Xandorf the aspiring youtuber" and "Brad the Gordon Lightfoot descendent" cracked me up! 😆 As well as the Rush Hour reference. Haha Glad to hear you're making some progress with your recovery, Jon. Also, thank you for the early access! Cheers!
Lol at Xander imitating your limping gait, then walking like a caveman at the very end!🤣 When I saw Xander's version of this trip I didn't get a good look at you at first so I didn't recognize you, but then I recognized your sweater and hat combination! 🤣 You guys are funny together. I'm sure you had a great time. 😊 I hope you've had your MRI by now and I hope the damage isn't too severe. Hopefully, you heal well and quickly. I would hate to see you be forced to give up this life you love so much. ❤
Always fun to see you and Xander with friends. Best wishes for fixing your knee issues. Even if your down for awhile you will come up with ideas for videos. So glad you have Erin by your side. I enjoyed this video !
Wishing you a speedy recovery Jon and am admiring your voyageur-like mentality of getting back out there and making shit happen. As a side note I'm not really sure the best way to send you a private message but a had a few questions regarding doing your first solo travel as I am planning to solo quetico for 1.5 - 2 weeks this summer and also a few beginner "I wish I would have known this before" things about starting a youtube channel doing these kinds of trips. You , Erin and Xander have all inspired me in your own way to get back out into nature like I used to, after being sidelined with health issues in my 20's. Thank you very much for your time Jon and hoping your back in the bush as quick as possible and that something like surgery isn't needed.
Love watching you guys. I can only imagine the laughs off camera. Knees are so sensitive it seems. I’ve got a tear also but so far knee braces working though I feel like a robot. We are here to enjoy whatever kind of video you want to make, scenery, bugs, fish, corny jokes, etc. Just let that knee heal so your travels will be easier. ❤
Thank you for sharing your camping trip John. I watched Brad and Xander video's too. What a beautiful place to set up camp. The sunsets story night skies with the forest whispers of the cold winter's night that gave light to stunning sunrises.
Glad to hear your getting things figured out with your knee and hopefully you have a nice and steady recovery Jon! The faster you get healthy, the faster we get to watch more awesome adventures 😊
Good morning, good afternoon, or good evening. Nice to see another video of yours. I have noticed throughout the past years that you have gained a tremendous amount of respect from others in the community of Outdoor Adventures. I have said it once before, and will say it again. Your videos are leagues above others. I truly hope your old hockey injury can be rehabbed and fixed. From what I've read from other comments is you should be fine, I guess. Carpe Diem my friend.
As always, an excellent short vid, this time over our breakfast. It’s great to find durations that fit into our day. Your productions evoke so many emotions from laugh to cry and curiosities along the learn curve. There is always something to come away with. BTW it was a good thing that you took time to qualify out loud your prep/contingencies thought about prior to your injury outing. So much good planning results in the best outcome. Best to yourself, Erin, Xander and Brad. Keep doin’ what yer doing’!
So happy for this video today. I love it when you and X camp together. Just to help out a bit, every day at school this past week I have played 3-4 videos a day (on mute) just to help with your numbers. Praying for you a speedy recovery from waaaay down south in Mississippi.
Your videos are so relaxing and entertaining Jon. Thank you. I hope your knee heals up and it's not a constant problem for you. Sending two thumbs up from Utah😊
Glad you were able to get in a freezing trip before your injury. It really sounds like your knee was a ticking time bomb. I hope you are recovering well. Look forward to all your videos!
Hope your leg gets healed probably. Love your videos. Sorry to have seen and hear about your injury. I’m sure most of us would love to have updates about how your doing with the injury. Get better soon
great video Jon nice to see you out on a wee adveture with Xander and Brad love the lights in the sky that one night may be man made but looked pretty interesting looked like a fun filled time with the guy's , wish I could bring myself to camp in the winter . Thanks for bringing us along .
Great video Jon! I always love the banter between good friends on a camping trip! I hope your knee injury heals quickly and that you're back out in nature where you belong before you know it!
3 Guys, 1 Tent. :) I've never heard trees pop before, this was a very interesting new piece of knowledge I gained. Great content. Poor Xander and his hot panics. I felt his anxiety. lol
Jon... keep making films. We all came for the camping and adventuring. We stay because you're an interesting man with a passion for your beautiful country. Find another way for a minute if you have to. You and Erin should go to Point Pelee on Lake Erie early May and see the warblers. You can sit in a chair, and those amazing little birds flying back from Peru, Columbia, Panama are right there! Or, heck, tell us any story on your mind, bro. Believe.
I'm glad your knee didn't blow out on this trip, that Zandorff Butterneck guy seems like the type who would have you marinaded and on the grill before you had a chance to get back !😂😂
Thanks for the update! Take care of you, no need to explain, there will always be those difficult “people “. I enjoyed this trip, you and Xander crack me up!
12:49 Brad is right. Ontario is a 9/10 but I’ve been to multiple mountain ranges, Rockies and Andes. It’s something you don’t get here and it’s mind blowing. I’m excited for the desert and think I might be there soon. Video will be made!
Get well soon Jon! Video idea for while you’re cooped up: can you go through your entire gear set and general prep you do for a hot tent trip? I’m guessing there are a lot of us like me who just stumbled on this channel with virtually no wilderness camping experience. I’ve been camping before, but what you do would be way more enjoyable to me than campground camping. It’s fascinating!
Always love when you guys get together, it seems like such a blast! Also, never knew trees would pop like that when it's that cold. So cool you got that on film too share
Jon, it's wonderful to see how you have taken Sander under your wing and look after him, he can almost walk in a straight line now, thanks to your care🤣 Joking apart, I do hope your knee heals properly and you regain your health again soon bud, feet up and a few hot toddiesfrom Erin should see ya right soon enough, be well mate.
The only thing more captivating than the meals were the sunrises. Absolutely stunning. I've been avoiding knee surgery for 12 years now, so I feel your pain. I do physio about 4 times a year, with a lot of low impact walking and very light ankle weights (when we aren't out adventuring). The exercise has kept the inevitable at bay, but the last 2 years the flare ups are increasing. Praying you can find the same kind of reprieve and get back to doing what you love. In the meantime ... can we talk you into editing some blooper reels from your vast library? :)
While this video didn't have to much adventure, it was really nice seeing more of you with your friends. You and Xander have amazing chemistry together. You guys always make me laugh :)
I really enjoy the video where Jon and Erin are going up and doing gear dropoff at the location and as they drop a heavy package on the ground Erin goes "So long Xander"
Im not sure how you popped up in my recommended videos. I’m mostly a gamer but man am I glad you did. Love watching your stuff and the solo ones are very calming and relaxing for me. Keep it up and thank you for the content
Your perspective on trips with your buds is always refreshing. Harbinger of your knee woes to come. Loved the recital of Brads monolog at the conclusion. Get well
Thanks for posting this. I had already seen Brad's and Xandorf's videos so it was nice to see your perspective. Thanks for the knee update, too. We're rooting for ya!
No scotch?,, come on boys,, lol great trip, awesome food, I was at camp in -35c this year and the tree’s popping was amazing, thatnks for sharing guys, would love to hear more about the tree grafting, where and with what?. Thank you for sharing, Bob.
Come on, man. I'm just starting to get Celsius down and your friend starts throwing Kelvin at me. No fair... 😀 Glad you have great friends to share your adventures with. Wishing you a full and speedy recovery with your knee injury! God bless!
John…this was another beauty!! That ‘Camera On Xander’s Eye’ closeup shot had be howling! 😂🤣Thanks for the laughs! Hoping your knee recovery is a speedy one as well 😎👏
Hey Erin is always a delight but nice to see some guy energy flying around in your hot tent (ermmm..). Jontario, and Johnny Canuck, they got your number pretty quick. What I like about this is that you clearly would have been doing this when I was doing it in the 70s, without RUclips etc. Why? we might have been asked back then. "Because it is there"--I think I am quoting Mallory on that.
Xander aspiring RUclipsr lmao, the never ending shots 😅 the trees were snapping good you said that I thought dude someone’s out there yonder with an axe lol never knew that 👍 super great video Jonny Canuck ! ;) Tbay
How did I miss this one? Perfect for today's rainy weather! "Trees popping form the cold!" More like "Tree Knocks", 'cause I want to believe 👣 Hope that knee heals fast so you can get back to doing what you do best.... teaching Xander everything he knows 😃
I hope all is well with the knee my friend. That looked so terrifying. I wish you all the best. On a lighter note. I love the sense of humor with you guys. Awesome Jon. Take care. NQU
Very good trip. Many have no idea how bright and clear the stars are with no ambient light, beautiful. I like the different perspectives from different video ographers. The menu differences were interesting. Jon, knee braces, you need the stability. I'm looking forward to the next video.
Skunks wake up out of hibernation once or twice to stretch and releave themselves during the long Michigan winters. And let me tell you it really stinks!
Getting hurt in the knee is so iffy, so I hope your injury is easily fixable. I hyper-extended a ligament a couple of years ago and healing was a slow painful process. Great video as always.
@@LostLakes yeah. Gonna have to disagree on that. The Achilles heel of the Male human race is explosive tooting in an elevator with a pretty girl. Guaranteed to wipe out the human race
i really loved the stove the "outdoorboys" use, it's basically in pieces you put together but since you put it together it packs away really thin and the "pipe" for it has to go straight up but it flattens out. Really cool stove.
love the hot tent vids, whatever cam youre using to capture the night sky....thats a winner man thats a winner. nice video. also yea those other places of the world are awesome, but while they may differ from ontario they dont offer everything ontario does
Looks like a really good time out there guys! I’m curious because I didn’t quite catch it, but why did Brad want that tree branch? Take care of your knee Jon. I look forward to your next adventure!
"Weird lights" are light pillars - A light pillar is an atmospheric optical phenomenon in which a vertical beam of light appears to extend above and/or below a light source. The effect is created by the reflection of light from tiny ice crystals that are suspended in the atmosphere or that comprise high-altitude clouds.
Very enjoyable light hearted video. The trees popping was a highlight. Also, what's the deal with that spider? How could it survive? Was it inside someone's gear and brought in?
Thank you for sharing another well made video Jon! A year ago I broke my ankle and had to have surgery, so I know how much those crutches suck! Get well soon. Cheers!
Thank you for the link, made for an enjoyable Saturday night. Rode the indoor bike between segments, I have a cranky knee too. Exercise needs to be a priority so I use the videos as motivation; Diablo portage was a killer, I think all three of you have videoed that one.
Thanks from New Brunswick for another great video. The lights in the sky are called "Light Pillars" The ideal weather conditions for this to occur are on a frigid winter night (often subzero temperatures) with high humidity and little to no wind. I've seen it once in person and needed to know what it was lol. LEANNE
That sunrise was incredible! Hope your knee is doing better! You need to get back out there to educate that novice Xander! But don't leave Ontario to do it!
John I wish you get the knee sorted asap, and are back on your feet, literally, jumping and doing all you love brother. Love your content, i aspire someday to be even 1/10 the trooper you are. Love from India 🇮🇳
those light pillars are right up there with Auroras, IMO... Skunks are starting to come out for the mating season, maybe he was trying to get a "jump" on the season. Getting any medical attention nowadays is an adventure all on it's own. Do you ever far get enough north to run into wolverines? Trying to pick out your favorite place is like trying to figure out your favorite sunset-rise...

Great trip, love the laughs! That sunrise at the end was just amazing 😻 take care of that knee Jon!
I appreciated what you said Jon, I listen to you. "The hearth is the heart" was an apt description. Also, nice Rush Hour quote, classic!
Absolutely fantastic. Had a long, trying day. This video was just what I needed. God bless.
💚💚
Glad you were able to get in a freezing trip before your injury. It really sounds like your knee was a ticking time bomb. I hope you are recovering well. Look forward to all your videos!

You guys sure make it look easy, even in that bitter cold. Great video.
Yep!!!
Jon... keep making films.
Glad you uploaded this John…gives another opportunity to watch all the ads thru to support your poetry and live the trail with you ⛄️
12:49 Brad is right. Ontario is a 9/10 but I’ve been to multiple mountain ranges, Rockies and Andes. It’s something you don’t get here and it’s mind blowing. I’m excited for the desert and think I might be there soon. Video will be made!
13:08
this too
👍
13:18
😂 lol and yes
Get well soon Jon! Video idea for while you’re cooped up: can you go through your entire gear set and general prep you do for a hot tent trip? I’m guessing there are a lot of us like me who just stumbled on this channel with virtually no wilderness camping experience. I’ve been camping before, but what you do would be way more enjoyable to me than campground camping. It’s fascinating!
Good idea 👍
Always love when you guys get together, it seems like such a blast!
Also, never knew trees would pop like that when it's that cold. So cool you got that on film too share
Good to see you guys out. Hope you have have a quick recovery man.
Jon, it's wonderful to see how you have taken Sander under your wing and look after him, he can almost walk in a straight line now, thanks to your care🤣
Joking apart, I do hope your knee heals properly and you regain your health again soon bud, feet up and a few hot toddiesfrom Erin should see ya right soon enough, be well mate.
Serious eats gentlemen and just love the camaraderie and fun you have together! Thanks for sharing and the light was spectacular! 💜 B
Wonderful 3 nights out! Good friends, good food and good fun! Hope your knee is healing up! Thanks for sharing. :) :)
Great video as usual Jon. Take care and I hope your knee keeps getting better. Sucks being hurt.
Thanks Paul :)
The three amigos on a whirl wind adventure, you, Xandorf (bless his heart) and the other guy. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us!

You guys are a blast! Thanks for the winter relief!
Your perspective on trips with your buds is always refreshing. Harbinger of your knee woes to come. Loved the recital of Brads monolog at the conclusion. Get well
I'm so happy to see you put out another video! Hope your knee heals up quick.
I already watched Xander and Brad's videos, so I was curious about what happened to yours. Great to see it, and I hope your knee is on the mend.
Thanks for posting this. I had already seen Brad's and Xandorf's videos so it was nice to see your perspective. Thanks for the knee update, too. We're rooting for ya!
A real “good vibes” video with the lads!
You said it :)
Great Winter Camping Adventure Jon !! Beautiful Sunrise.
Omg, you 3 are so funny together. I loved this shorty. Camping in snow always looks fun but challenging.
Excellent video Joh. How's the knee? Meniscus tear and fold back into the knee joint. Get better!!!
No scotch?,, come on boys,, lol great trip, awesome food, I was at camp in -35c this year and the tree’s popping was amazing, thatnks for sharing guys, would love to hear more about the tree grafting, where and with what?. Thank you for sharing, Bob.
Yes, just a nice outing … the comradeship is definitely heart warming … thoroughly pleasant

You guys are so much fun to watch! You have so much fun together. Wish you did it more often!!! 🎉
Always enjoy seeing you guys, the banter between the two of you is so funny. Thanks for the smiles and of course the outdoor views.

Thanks John for another great video of another camping trip!! Take good care of your knee please!! 🙏🙏🙏😊😊😊. Michael
Come on, man. I'm just starting to get Celsius down and your friend starts throwing Kelvin at me. No fair... 😀 Glad you have great friends to share your adventures with. Wishing you a full and speedy recovery with your knee injury! God bless!

I hope all is well with the knee my friend. That looked so terrifying. I wish you all the best.

Sorry to hear that you’ll be down for a short while but please take care yourself and I can’t wait to see y’all back at it again
Thank you! Great video - full of humor and laughter!
Looking very very comfy👏🏻
Skunks wake up out of hibernation once or twice to stretch and releave themselves during the long Michigan winters. And let me tell you it really stinks!
Fantastic entertainment right there!! The three outdoor amigos!!! Stewards and champions of the north!!!!
Getting hurt in the knee is so iffy, so I hope your injury is easily fixable. I hyper-extended a ligament a couple of years ago and healing was a slow painful process. Great video as always.
Thanks John! The knee ironically seems to be the Achilles' heel of our race. Hope you've fully recovered now
@@LostLakes we’re not going to fault u for these really bad dad jokes right now😒😂
@@LostLakes yeah. Gonna have to disagree on that. The Achilles heel of the Male human race is explosive tooting in an elevator with a pretty girl. Guaranteed to wipe out the human race
@@LostLakes yeah. It's a toot joke.
i really loved the stove the "outdoorboys" use, it's basically in pieces you put together but since you put it together it packs away really thin and the "pipe" for it has to go straight up but it flattens out.
Beautiful sunrises.
Very enjoyable light hearted video. The trees popping was a highlight. Also, what's the deal with that spider? How could it survive? Was it inside someone's gear and brought in?
This was a fun one.
Hey bud! Glad seeing another video! I really like the ones where you camp in the cold winter, much love from quebec! :)
Thank you for sharing another well made video Jon! A year ago I broke my ankle and had to have surgery, so I know how much those crutches suck! Get well soon. Cheers!
Thank you! Hope you're back to 100% now
@@LostLakes Yes sir 100%... now it's your turn. 🙌
Hope your are making progress with you knee. Gunna be a treat with any video you manage to put out.
Too funny you guys! Me with my earbuds watching the video laughing while while my wife"s trying to watch TV. Thanks all!
Good friends , food and awesome scenery can't top that. So the knee was a building issue apparently hope your doing better !! ( Meniscus ?? )
Thank you for the link, made for an enjoyable Saturday night. Rode the indoor bike between segments, I have a cranky knee too. Exercise needs to be a priority so I use the videos as motivation; Diablo portage was a killer, I think all three of you have videoed that one.
Thanks Bruce! I do the same when I watch TV...great time to get some exercises and stretches in :)
Thanks from New Brunswick for another great video. The lights in the sky are called "Light Pillars" The ideal weather conditions for this to occur are on a frigid winter night (often subzero temperatures) with high humidity and little to no wind. I've seen it once in person and needed to know what it was lol. LEANNE
The Ov-Glove!!! I love mine and almost cried when I burned it beyond rescue. Great video!
That sunrise was incredible! Hope your knee is doing better! You need to get back out there to educate that novice Xander! But don't leave Ontario to do it!
Jon, perfect video as always, legend ! ;) But this Xander dude tbh.. 😆😆 Much love!
Great vid bud. Hope your knee heals up good. Cheers
John I wish you get the knee sorted asap, and are back on your feet, literally, jumping and doing all you love brother.
Love your content, i aspire someday to be even 1/10 the trooper you are.
Love from India 🇮🇳
what a pity, episodes are soooo much fun so always TOO SHORT😢
THANK YOU
GOD BLESS FROM THE NETHERLANDS ❤
those light pillars are right up there with Auroras, IMO...
