The extraordinary true story of an unexpected friendship in the later years of Queen Victoria’s (Academy Award winner Judi Dench) remarkable rule. When Abdul Karim (Ali Fazal), a young clerk, travels from India to participate in the Queen’s Golden Jubilee, he is surprised to find favor with the Queen herself. As the Queen questions the constrictions of her long-held position, the two forge an unlikely and devoted alliance with a loyalty to one another that her household and inner circle all attempt to destroy. As the friendship deepens, the Queen begins to see a changing world through new eyes and joyfully reclaims her humanity.

It's sad to know that, after queen died they threw Abdul back to India and burnt all the records of him.
But still their friendship is still alive.
May their souls be happy in heaven.❤️

I watched a documentary about this she loved him like her son and couldn't no one say anything bad about him she was always on his side until the day she died and her family and other aristocrats kicked him and his family out of his house that the queen gave him and burned anything that had the royal crest on it including every letter she ever wrote to him they basically tried to erase him from history because they hated him so much it's quite sad; and because they took all three of the homes the queen gifted him he returned to India he passed I believe 4 years after the queen

They will touch on the famine, poverty and other problems in India in this movie, however this is supposed to be the story of an aging woman who meets someone who others saw as incredibly beneath her, but instead became her friend. This isn't meant to glorify terrible things done to Indians, but to show a true friendship which was lost to history.

Justine Rose It is disappointing how many people are like 'Propaganda movie!', 'Will they show the torture and the * insert long paragraphs *' when they haven't watched the full movie (and probably won't judging by the comments) and when this is a movie about the unique friendship between two specific individuals. I think everyone taking it in the wrong way. I don't think the intention of those who produced the movie was to make people think that British did nothing to Indian people, because after all it's in history. The point of this movie is to make everyone realize how even in those times where white people were so close minded and even brutal to those who were not white, a true friendship was made between two people that were so different in every way but at the same time they were the same. They just intended good with this, because it's a story worth being told but everyone is just talking about the bad things. In my case, I'm really looking forward to watching it.

Indian's are becoming more aware of what was done to their people. If you do research on what Indians endured at the hands of foreign empire's, you will find their suffering was comparable to what Jews endured. Britain was responsible for the deaths of over a million Indians and Churchill described them as "beast's". I'd imagine this movie isn't going to be popular among Indians, or even Pakistani audience's.
.. Yes over 5 million died due to the British invader's. You are a brave people, who have preserved your race and cultures. Much respect my brother's. Japan helped Azad Hind struggle for independence. Asia will always stand by you.

May god bless her with good health and happiness. I watched this movie three years ago and I absolutely loved it.Very few people know about the existence of this story as they tried to erase Abdul's memory from everywhere possibly, this is indeed a story of true friendship lost in the history due to prejudice and hatred. I genuinely want such movies to be produced more which depicts real friendship. As for Ali Fazal(the one who played Abdul),he did a fantastic job and did justice to his character as always.

It's not covering up, it's just not focusing on it. To portray everything in a life, would take a lifetime. Of course, it is a horrific topic and one that deserves its own film, but this film is not about that. It is about how a young indian helped the aging queen in the autumn years of her life. People assume FROM THE FLIPPING TRAILER that it is ignoring the matter. The fact that it has been brought up in the trailer would flipping well suggest to me that it is a topic that will be addressed in the film.

You looted the world and put them in endless pain which continues to exist to this date. Endless wars of freedom, countless sacrifices all over the nations, all to just overthrow the crooked British rule. Abdul must be a great man indeed at heart, very forgiving. We honestly don’t give a shit about the crown or whatsoever entails it. Really want to earn respect? Here’s how. Come forward, accept of the wrong doings, publicly apologize, and maybe if ounce of shame is left anymore, then do return the loot if not with the interest to the respective nations. Apparently the ‘loot’ is your pride, feel I am wrong? Research on the Kohinoor Diamond. - I hope u do read this, Mr. Don’t know it all.

Well to surprise of your narrow mindedness this has so many dislikes because of controversies surrounding qween Victoria and abdul's relationship which is not clear and many Britishers do not want their qween to be shown as an old lady pervert lady
Everything is not about what you think, step out of your pit
