  • There's so many different sets that enter my hemisphere creating content. Every week I get done recording Auction Talk and always do some exploring to learn more about specific cards that popped up. Today I decided to hit record to walk through my typical process instead of doing it in the shadows.
1998 Donruss Crusade has popped up in a lot of different places over the past couple of months. There's been a ton of demand and a lot of commentary on why this insert set matters to collectors.
I had fun learning more about it. Hope you do, too.
If you've got any more fun nuggets to share about Crusades put it in the comments!

Love this. Some under loved sets I enjoy for baseball are the 2000 Spx radiance and 1999 ultimate victory parallel 100. Just super cool and fairly cheap.

If I were still collecting baseball cards, then the Crusade sets would be at the top of my list. However, theres one concern: how many of these actually exist? Think about it: whats the odds of one collector owning three of the twenty-five Ray Lankfords? I guess its possible...just not very likely. With there supposedly only being a very limited print run, I wouldnt think you'd see the Griffeys on the market at all. You also have the executive proofs, and nobody knows how many of those exists. The same image is used on all three variations of each player, as well. For me, this puts the actual print run at 375 per player. They're still rare, but theres just alot of discrepancies with the set that I would struggle with grasping. I mean, how much was truly backdoored? We simply dont know, and thats the scariest part about this set. If alot was backdoored, then the rarity of this set, in my opinion, has heavily diminished.
