how to get more supercharger whine from your Jaguar XFR/XFR-S

  • Reading through forums, I found out that replacing the stock intakes with cones will get you more supercharger whine...
    Yes, I know my engine will heat-soak worse now but thats only during standstill - it should go away once I get moving and air comes through... and yes, I know I need to secure the intakes down....
    For the pre-facelift engines, the MAF is part of the intake box so you have to get MAF adaptors - you can find these on eBay for cheap... The measurements are: 76mm flange, 49mm between the bolts for the MAF and a 26mm hole for the MAF (also need M4 bolts to bolt the MAF down to the adaptor).... I kept the bottom of the airbox in and the feed that goes from grill to box...
    The cones are K&N RU-5111 (76mm flange and 143mm in length) but I would say you can fit larger cones in there...
    I facelift'd my XFR so it has the pre-facelift engine...
    The interior shots are with the door closed....
    Hope this is useful for whoever's watching :)

    Loved the sound of supercharger whine since my first supercharged car, an 02 Mini Cooper S when I was a teenager. Now that I'm an adult I have adult money to buy a Supercharged Jag, and an early-mid 2010s XFR is on the list of options!

      @achu2691  3 года назад

      Yeah all those bits + the arch liners, they're different... The headlights have the same plug but the connections are all different so they need to be completely rewired and a resistor needs to be put in for the LED strip...

  • @Whipas
    @Whipas 3 года назад

    So, when you start the car for lets say the first 10 sec before you start to rev is where I am concerned for my jag and maybe yours.
    I can hear the injectors firing off, which is ok, but theres another distinct noise that follows the rpms. Its like a bad pulley, or a belt tensioner or something... I have the same engine sound (non S/C though) and that sound gets more apparent when the car is colder, once it warms up properly it almost nearly goes away, but you can hear it on Idle faintly..
    I'm not sure how to describe the sound.. its really apparent when it settles down a bit since the revs from the initial start are settling down and can be heard on 0:05 - 0:08... Its not a rattle,maybe sounds like pulley whine.. Or maybe its just the way these engines are..
    WHERE AND WHY DOES IT MAKE THAT SOUND... :/

    • @ReLCorsa
      @ReLCorsa 2 года назад +5

      On the 5.0 engines that sound is usually caused by the slight slack in the timing chains due to less pressure from the tensioners. It builds pressure as the engine runs which is why it slowly goes away as the car warms up, not really an issue unless the tick turns more into a slapping noise as that's a sign of tensioner failure and you're getting too much slack and the chain is actually hitting the case. I had the same worry when I first got my XJ Supercharged and thought it had an issue; some digging brought me to the forums where they discussed the cause and that it's pretty normal especially if you have one of the earlier 5.0s without the revised tensioners
