Glad to hear it. I was just saying the other day on another podcast that modern iPhone cameras beat pretty much every webcam in terms of image quality. I do think a full frame or APS-C camera tends to be better than the iPhone though. That said, it's a lot more kit and size to use.

I think I'll go for the C922 instead - like you recommended and just use a decent mic with it. New sub. I appreciate the effort and depth you've put into your content.

It depends on your setup. In a perfect world, a dedicated tripod behind your desk with a metal phone mount like this amzn.to/3ygnWcA or the small rig one. Thanks! I haven't tested Bluetooth webcams, I can't imagine the BT protocol sending 1080p images at quality. It is used for wireless vehicle backup cameras, so it should be possible though.
Thank you and welcome! The new webcams from Elgato Facecam Mk2 and Logitech MX Brio just arrived after a little backorder wait, so those are coming soon.
Hi. What would you recommend please as the best web cam for MS teams, Zoom, Webinars etc. I just bought a new Macbook pro M2 (2023 version) The camera is 1080p but still a bit off. I'm in the UK and ideally not wanting to spend a lot! The Brio 4K is still around £250, Elgato Facecame £140 and Brio 500 £80. But im trying to pick between those. Great video btw! Thanks 😊
Of those, I'd go with the Elgato (note that it doesn't have a microphone). The Brio 500 is also a great value, but I think it's comparable to the Macbook Pro's 1080p Webcam if your laptop is on a riser. The other thing I'd try before you purchase either is the iPhone using continuity camera. It's presumptuous of me to think you have an iPhone as a Mac owner 🙂, but assuming you do, you should try it. iPhone X and newer rear camera is really good.
@DeployJeremy Thank you so much for taking the time to reply to me. I've been toying with the Elgato. The pro is still double the price of the facecam at the moment and for my needs, I think the first version would do. Though I'm a bit worried about its size on my macbook Pro monitor, which was why I was swaying to brio 4k that I can get at half the price. The camera on the pro isn't too bad but still not the sharpest for meetings. I've actually just switched from Windows to Apple for the first time ever, so no iPhone yet! But it could be in the pipeline!
@@criostiona The Brio 4k is great choice for 4k and 1080p 60. With the most recent firmware update, I finally was able to dial it in. I think they changed the white balance control to optimize for the center of the frame vs. the entire image, so now if you have rgb lights, you can strike the right balance between foreground and background. It's image quality (clarity, focus, sharpness) was always good.
@DeployJeremy I think I'll go for the Brio 4k as it might sit better on my laptop screen and will save the cost of getting a mic for the elgato! Thank you for the help and great content! Appreciated 👌🏻
This was exactly what I call a neutral recommendation video, but... I need multiple cameras for recording the desktop from multiple angles and test-equipment sitting in front. Could you check these cameras also for being able to focus on objects instead of just tracking faces? In addition, it would be interesting to know how easy they can be integrated into OBS and Stream Deck remote control functions. Like controlling zoom (and pan / tilt / focus if available) with a stream deck plus or such? G-Hub probably lets you select only one camera at a time, so you have to click a lot until you can zoom on something. That is as annoying as having to stand up and re-arrange settings on a normal camera...
There are a few cameras that allow you to save UVC control settings profiles, but not many. The PTZ cameras almost always have at least three programmable locations and the OBSBOT cameras have integration with Streamdeck to switch between them. Since focus is usually contrast-based (not like AF in good mirrorless cameras), that's what I would do for your scenario.
Thanks for this authentic review. I have the Coolpo Desk Mate that I purchased for less than $100 on Amazon. for its price, I could say it works better than the ones you have here. But great video overall!
Thanks. That is possible, I can't treat everything unfortunately. Typically it boils down to sensor size and center metering for color balance and exposure.
Are there any decent 3-in-1 webcams out there? Meaning, webcam, microphone AND speaker? I'm more concerned with simplifying my setup than sheer quality (tho I'd like it not to be junk :D)
Nothing really has a speaker integrated. Realistically, using your mobile phone (assuming flagship Android or recent iPhone) gets you there, or if you have a laptop with a really good 1080p bezel camera (there are some) and onboard microphones, you can get by. You still need to pay attention to lighting and be relatively close to your phone/laptop ideally without a wall right behind it or echoey room to sound good. The new flagship Lenovos and MacBooks do a pretty good job in both audio and video, but you'd need to bring a (folding) laptop stand and mouse plus potentially keyboard (because you can't easily type on a laptop that's 6" or 15cm above desk height).
Hi ! Great video ! I want to get setup with a webcam to use with my Mac mini to take guitar lessons with Zoom. I want something with nice sharp video but would like something in the 50-80$ range. I will just be sitting with my electric guitar about 1metre in front of my Moniteur. I will not be streaming or doing anything fancy. As long as I get a real sharp video with great auto-focus I'm good. Oh..and I don't need a mic on the camera.. and I want a camera cap to cover the camera when I'm not using it.
Curious about the gimbal cameras that you did an “out of the box test” on. Thankfully you mentioned natural movement/adjustments. They seem like a dream come true for independent filmmakers, (as in actually independent). I have a small studio that might benefit occasionally using it for compositing. Could you give your opinion on which gimbal offers better movement control? Basically smooth vs slow and if fast how fast while accurate. Which one has better ability to track full body walking and if placed near floor pointing up which one is better at tracking half body/head. If you have the cameras and are inclined make a video showing such abilities. Thank you!
I think the gimbal movement on the obsbot is a bit more human, if that makes sense. I've worked with some of the best jib operators and sliders using proper cameras. If you can color correct the image to match your other footage it would work. That said, the image and sensor on the Insta360 had more dynamic range
@@DeployJeremy yup human is basically what I’m after POV looking up at someone. Easing movement in 4K would be possible, color matching may pose problem… compositing may help or hurt not sure. Thank you!
Depends on whether you need PTZ capabilites. For me, it would be the Meet 4K. If you do move around a lot or use a Whiteboard, then I would say Tiny PTZ 4K
I bought the elgato facecam and had issues with the software for the camera. No matter what I did, the software would not launch. I contacted support and theyhad no idea either. So I figured I could use it with obs studio so no worries ill make do; nope. The camera worked fine in OBS studio, until I added a game capture. the thing did nothing but freeze. I returned it. I do not need the headache.
I'm sorry to hear that. I've had no issues with mine. I even installed it on a Windows on ARM device without issues. If you were nearby, I would run it in a debugger to see what's causing the crash. My guess would be driver or dll. Do you have UAC and all the normal Windows security controls with file and registry virtualization still enabled? Everything on the C:\ drive?
@@DeployJeremy yep I did a lot of level 1 troubleshooting with an elgato support agent but I just returned it, I did not want the headache. But to change the subject this was a phenomenal video. Thank you for showing me something I did not know!!

I'm guessing once I already clicked your link for the webcam then I navigate to the microphone I also add to my Amazon cart it may still apply your tracker so you can get a portion of that sale but just in case.
I'm not sure how that works tbh, but I've been trying to include anything mentioned in the description. Guess I forgot about the microphone pairing for the webcams in this case (I'm a huge fan of the Razer Seiren Mini if you're on a budget and don't need the monitoring port - it's what I use at work, too)
@@DeployJeremy You can create an account at amazon's Associates Central and then generate referral links to link to the products you mentioned, then you will get a small % of each sale but it doesn't raise the price for the consumer
Thank you for a great review. And, thank you for including both the mic and cam functionality! However, I disagree with downgrading powerful software as a con (elgato). The UI for that software seemed fairly intuitive on screen even with the many options. I would agree if the UI was deep with a lack of intuitive settings. But, it makes no sense to downgrade it unless it was poorly done.
Thanks. To be clear, the Elgato Facecam is a great camera. I didn't really downgrade it for the software. It's just a bit more to take in than typical webcam software (like Logitech) if you're just starting out as someone working from home for example. It's the same for Razer Synapse and AVerMedia. I think if you're a streamer, it's fine. Setting up OBS is way more difficult.
Which camera do you think better for zoom/google meet calls, logitech brio 501 or anker C200, especially in low light room? also buil-in microphone quality is important. Or maybe you can recommend better alternative under 120$
@@DeployJeremy thanks for your prompt response, then what is your opinion on brio 501 vs brio 4k in term of image and microphone quality, especially for zoom calls where i can't use 4k resolution? and do you know what the difference between brio 501 and brio 500?
@@johnb5739 until about a month ago, I preferred the Brio 500, despite its lower resolution. That said, after the recent Brio 4k firmware update, I'm finally getting the right color balance from the 4k model. The 500 vs. 501 I believe is a retail vs. business packaging. Business packaging tends to use more brown recyclable cardboard. From what I can tell, both can be tuned using Logi Tune. I believe Logitech G Hub only works with the retail units. I tested this with my 301, and G Hub doesn't see it.
@@johnb5739 forgot to say, I prefer the microphone on the Brio 500 vs. the Brio 4k, but neither is amazing. That partly comes down to physics (you're too far from the mic) and how fast we've come in voice processing. I can imagine that we're only a year or two out from webcam firmware running what is essentially Adobe Podcast and all those webcams will sound like Shure SM7Bs
I used a Sony ZV-E10 with Viltrox 23mm F1.4 AF lens for the primary camera. I believe it's in the description. It's a great budget mirrorless camera and the combo with the lens and autofocus has worked well for me.
Same for both. It's just not advised to use OBS with Zoom or Teams, unless you have a powerful computer. So anything we set in OBS, while technically possible on Teams or Zoom using the virtual camera, may not be available to you.
Thanks for taking the time to comment. My microphone is the Shure MV7. I painted it black to remove the Shure branding and use the SM7B pop filter, because it's better at rejecting plosives. (it basically adds an air gap of around 1" between the foam and capsule)
Hmmm i'm thorned between the Brio 4k (really cheap right now), the Facecam or the Osbot Meet 4k. Both on sale. If only the Brio 500 could do 1080p 60 fps :P
Hey, which one would you recommend me to buy between Elgato Facecam and OBSBOT meet 4k? Which one has the best image quality? Pros, cons? Thank you so much! :)
@@DeployJeremy what would be the reason(s)? Also is your answer directed at office use or streaming? I am specifically interested in office use, so would be keen to hear your opinion. Thanks for the great video!
@@adiands850 Both are solid webcams. I got a bit more sharpness and dynamic range from the Elgato. Each does well on color accuracy. Elgato does not have an on board mic in case that's a factor for you. 4K vs 1080p60 doesn't really matter if you're using Teams or Zoom primarily.
@@DeployJeremy Thanks for the reply. Onboard mic is not a factor as I have a proper soundbar with mic. Do you know which one is better with low light situations? I don't really have the space for extra lighting.
@@adiands850 Both will need some type of lighting. Elgato doesn't publish sensor size (some sources say 1/1.8"), but I suspect it's bigger than the 1/2.8" sensor in the Meet. So based on that alone, it'll have better low light performance. That is likely also why dynamic range and detail are better, too, since both have medium quality lens optics - neither good, nor bad.
It's the built in driver though. Do you have enough USB bandwidth on its port and bus, any in line video effects like Snap AR installed? I don't see the UVC driver fail often, just stops if my USB traffic is too high. Usually that is due for me to having either too much video traffic out (2 USB-C monitors in my case) or too much traffic inbound (2 cameras).
@@DeployJeremy only USB in use is my keyboard and mouse. I’ve tried to update the driver but I couldn’t find it in device manager. It’s absolutely frustrating.
Assuming that you're using Windows. The driver is on Device Manager, if you right click the camera, you should see a driver tab. The in box Windows driver was last updated in 2006 10.0.22621.608 and I'm on the newest Windows 11 build. You can try deleting and reinstalling the driver and rebooting, but I doubt that will change anything. I have a feeling it's downstream issue, not the driver itself.
I have a Logi Streamcam and I'm REALLY disappointed at the picture via Google Meet and on Chrome. It was a BIT better on a Mac, but still not good. I'm sure it's outstanding for streaming, but the image quality is not good for Video Meetings.
I prefer it as an enthusiast and for its image quality. But as someone starting out without software to tune the image, microphone isn't usable, and you need to find hardware to mount it. That's why.
@@DeployJeremy if I use the Mokose just for video. In terms of video quality is it better than the Facecam? or will go with the OBSBOT Meet 1080p ($80)? Thanks.
At the moment Jun 2023 the Kiyo Pro is available at £99 in the UK. That seems too good a price to ignore, I'm wondering if they are on clearance before the ultra appears here. Tempted by the pro at that price.
@@DeployJeremy I was being entirely constructive. The trend for microphones the size of saucepans is a sad fashion trend. These monstrosities will contain an entirely standard small microphone capsule. That is all that is needed to record great sound. And I suggest you get yourself a cardioid mic and balance it out with some bass cut for the proximity effect. Put it on the desk at a distance of a couple of feet and you are good to go. I've been in enough BBC radio studios to understand how this works.
@@donepearce I hear you. When I film in a proper studio, we use Sanken COS 11D lavalier mics, which is likely what the BBC also uses. They are $900 though and I don't like being tethered or conversely recharging the wireless pack batteries. The condenser mic on desk is a bad idea in an untreated room with a keyboard next to it, where you hear every key press and breath. I'll stick with my dynamic and cardioid pattern mic and agree to disagree.
I use my ZV-E10 with Cam Link daily and I'm on calls all day. Best webcam now regardless of price IMHO is the Razer Kiyo Pro Ultra at $300. The best UVC webcam at a budget (assuming 1080p 30fps with UVC only controls) is the Lenovo Essential FHD webcam I just reviewed. It's $30!

@@DeployJeremy ok just a heads up. Thanks again I did get the blue yetti mini and can’t wait to use it.
@@brandongrennan7602 nice! And it works with GHub BlueVoice

What we can are u using in this video u filmed
I used a Sony ZV-E10, Viltrox 23mm F1.4 AF lens, and Elgato Cam Link 4k capture card
Or maybe you can recommend better alternative under 120$
Brio 501 from those two. If you can find the Brio 4k ($125 on Amazon US now BTW), I'd get that now.
@@DeployJeremy thanks
Great video!
On the edit process try tone down with a filter your voice and you will sound even greater
can I ask what camera you are using to make this video? thank you!
I used a Sony ZV-E10 with Viltrox 23mm F1.4 AF lens for the primary camera. I believe it's in the description. It's a great budget mirrorless camera and the combo with the lens and autofocus has worked well for me.
Update: it wasn't in the description as I thought. Just added it with links.
@@DeployJeremy thanks!
Are all these pros and cons same for Teams / Zoom calls, or only for recording video?
Same for both. It's just not advised to use OBS with Zoom or Teams, unless you have a powerful computer. So anything we set in OBS, while technically possible on Teams or Zoom using the virtual camera, may not be available to you.
Hi is your mic a sm7b? Why there is a green light
Thanks for taking the time to comment. My microphone is the Shure MV7. I painted it black to remove the Shure branding and use the SM7B pop filter, because it's better at rejecting plosives. (it basically adds an air gap of around 1" between the foam and capsule)
I loved it
Hmmm i'm thorned between the Brio 4k (really cheap right now), the Facecam or the Osbot Meet 4k. Both on sale.
If only the Brio 500 could do 1080p 60 fps :P
I'd do the Brio 4k now, then update its firmware using LogiTune
@@DeployJeremyyou’d take the Brio 4k over the Elgato Facecam?
@@ChefMane with the latest firmware updates, I actually would in my environment. Both are great cameras to be honest
Hey, which one would you recommend me to buy between Elgato Facecam and OBSBOT meet 4k? Which one has the best image quality? Pros, cons? Thank you so much! :)
Between those two, I would say the Elgato Facecam. I do like both though.
Have the c922 and i constantly run into problems with driver error
@@DeployJeremy it’s driving me absolutely crazy, I’ll have to look into it when I get home brother
I have a Logi Streamcam and I'm REALLY disappointed at the picture via Google Meet and on Chrome. It was a BIT better on a Mac, but still not good. I'm sure it's outstanding for streaming, but the image quality is not good for Video Meetings.
Agree. It can be OK lots of light, but isn't my favorite either.
Is epocam for ios only?
Epoccam is only for iPhone, but there are alternatives for Android like Iriun, Droidcam, and Camo
what camera are you using for this video?
It's a Sony ZV-E10 with Viltrox 23mm F1.4 AF lens
Curious why you didn't pick the Mokose $84 option as the best under $100?
I prefer it as an enthusiast and for its image quality. But as someone starting out without software to tune the image, microphone isn't usable, and you need to find hardware to mount it. That's why.
@@DeployJeremy if I use the Mokose just for video. In terms of video quality is it better than the Facecam? or will go with the OBSBOT Meet 1080p ($80)? Thanks.
I like your content. However, the electrified transition animation causes me not to be able to continue looking. Please change!
Done. Feedback heard. Thank you
bro forgot about the best webcam under $100 - razer kiyo/razer kiyo pro 💀💀
I really want the Kiyo Ultra. I didn't love the original one, so I haven't acquired a Pro yet.
At the moment Jun 2023 the Kiyo Pro is available at £99 in the UK. That seems too good a price to ignore, I'm wondering if they are on clearance before the ultra appears here. Tempted by the pro at that price.
Microphones. Don't use a microphone the size of a bucket. There is no need - buy a good one that can be tucked out of sight off camera.
Comments. Try to be friendly and constructive. I like how the MV7 sounds more than my lav and shotgun mics.
Which is your favorite regardless of price? Which do you use daily?
I use my ZV-E10 with Cam Link daily and I'm on calls all day. Best webcam now regardless of price IMHO is the Razer Kiyo Pro Ultra at $300. The best UVC webcam at a budget (assuming 1080p 30fps with UVC only controls) is the Lenovo Essential FHD webcam I just reviewed. It's $30!

why do they all look quite bad ? i feel like a 250 phone can do better than a 200 camera ????
Phone rear cameras can be really good. I don't disagree, but they are not as easy to use with a PC or Mac.
