@@redline350zHR yeah, I've seen a few on AutoTrader but they're not cheap. I paid $21,500 in Nov 2020 for my '18 TLX w/Technology package, 40K miles on it is all. To pay close to that much for an '08 TL just doesn't make sense.

They are not easy to find in a manual, but if you can get your hands on a nice, clean one, definitely take the opportunity. They are a joy to drive. The introduction of the new 2021 TLX Type S this spring may convince some of the original owners of the TL Manual to sell their TL and upgrade to that TLX Type S. But we will see.
It does consume oil but less than a quart between oil changes. I do most of the maintenance at the dealership though and they have replaced some gaskets that could cause more oil consumption if not addressed. Overall my experience with this car is the oil consumption has been low. But you are right in the fact that these J37 engines are prone to consuming oil. I have not spoken to anyone that has had super high oil consumption like 2 quarts or more between oil changes. Overall this TL SH-AWD has been very reliable and I have not had to do anything other than scheduled maintenance myself.
I have both a 3rd and 4th gen TL both 6MTs they are great cars. My 2011 drives on a whole other league than my 2005. However, once you drive an Audi A6 6MT you'll realize there is a whole other level of fun
You would put an A6 before the 4gn TL SH AWD? I've driven both and the AWD system is the main difference for me. Sending 70% of available torque to one rear wheel is awesome in the snow. And fun on the street. Add a larger cabin and trunk and cheaper parts, I'm just not sure how you got to this position.
I had a 2006 tl and loved it. Just moved from the northwest, I'm curious what did you pay for it? I'll be getting the same awd manual maybe a different year though, just depends on what's out there and condition.
