I worked in marine engineering and and on one particular job the thread was m150 with a 1.5 mm pitch we had terrible trouble with the nuts gauling up till we started using a very expensive anti gauling paste that contained silver in it it was about £150 for a 100 gram tub but alot cheaper than new nuts and pins
Hi Chris Tight axle nuts, fine grinding paste ( the paste for grinding valves in ) on the stub axle threads with a bit of oil, run the new nut up and down pinching a bit each time. Never fails. Easy!!
Yeah Roy here said about grinding paste to! We didn’t have none, just got that nut off and the threads have picked up 🤦😭 nightmare mate! Thanks for the advice Leslie I’ll get some paste mate 👍 got the other 3 to do now
Never had any luck with grinding paste done it once as advised and the the pump shaft and impeller sized solid so more expense and an unhappy gaffer and customer
@@mondodaftasabrush Hi Mondo, cant see why anything should seize, once the nut is free, you clean all the threads to remove any paste thats on the threads, so why would it seize?
I tried cutting paste found it never worked great for me., I use the thread chaser like one in video then brake cleaner and air line, then engine oil, run nut up to tight spot and do the old 5th turn forwards, 3/4 backwards, takes time but always gets there, a few spare nuts is always a Relief, this problem is common especially after bearing failure, end of the stub can flare out , I have done loads of these, fucked up but I enjoy them time flys in, end of the day all I've done is put one nut on 😂
God I was sat here getting frustrated for you with that thread ....I've been through some work struggles too recently Chris and thought "why f#ucking me" but I'm glad we share the same days occasionally! Thanks for a great vlog. You always manage to make me smile ...keep up the great work
Just recently found your channel and love, showing how life can and often is shit. as your boy likes youtube truckers, have a look at Ned Kelly, irish trucker, mostly international work and another one who says and shows it as it is. Keep up the good work
Hi Chris - What about a small air die grinder with a long bullet tungsten carbide bit? Two hands on it and you can keep it pretty steady and cut your slot into your nut each side, without the struggle of drilling! Then do your usual chisel to spread and split the last bit of meat near the stub threads. Keep on struggling!
Love that thread restorer tool. Try hitting the nut on its diameter when screwed on, on its tight spot. Technical Struggler: expert level today Chris. Great work and video, thanks for sharing
I must say, I love your style :) No frills, no chills, unalduterated, true to life... In other words, unedited except for the repetitive parts. AND we learn a lot. What's not to like? As far as I'm concerned, nothing :p
Great vid as always Chris, result with the Ovlvo,do they do easy fit bonnets too!! Can't trust you with anything!! Be interested to see what the hub nut tread problem is. Struggle on bud.....Struggle on!!
Man I feel your pain! Maybe polish the male threads with some scotch bite then lube the threads and install nut with fingers, then when you get to sketchy area ring the threads by tapping the face of the nut with a small hammer in a circle while you continue to turn with fingers. If that fails use some diamond paste on the threads.
Since you said about the markings on the hub nuts to see what ones left or right hand thread I’ve notice the transit rear hub nuts have the same markings 👍🏻👍🏻
Hi Chris great to see I'm not only one on the struggle lol great video as per usual gets me how a fine thread on them axles is like that considering it holds the wheel on till the next one mate
Nice one Chris.... The SAF nightmare continues..... 😱 Keep up the struggle mate , oh and instead of saying boys & girls just say Guys as that means everyone I think... 👍
@@matthewwiddows6319 We had to learn to sharpen drills as you got a set issued to you and you could only get it replaced when it was an inch stub Those days you couldn't get a new jubilee clip from the stores it was return for and exchanged for a reconditioned one till the penny dropped that it wasn't worth it when it caused an engine failure and reconditioned clips where used for not coolant repairs Mac do and mend days when you had nowt
You cannot sharpen drills old fashion type drills or blacksmith drills I will agree with but modern drills and those gold coloured ones are case hardened so once they are blunt all you are doing is grinding into the softer metal so as soon as you sharpen them they just blunt of straight away. It all depends on what you are drilling into drilling into a bit of cheap flat bar or angle iron just about any thing will go through it but drilling out broken studs 10.9 or 12.2 I use good quality cobalt drills good cutting paste drill slowly and a bit of patience if I blunt them of get a new one and start again it just goes on the bill. The hardest bolts to drill out can be exhaust manifold or turbo bolts they tend to harden of close to the hotter side so as they are not evenly hardened they vere of no matter how you clamp or use a pillar drill etc they still vere of all you can do is take your time as with all drilling patience is the key
now that was a struggle Chris best idea walk away try again later . good idea volvo have with the headlights two rods and there out the V70 is the same .
Get you an EZ threader it’s a diamond cutting disc like thing that can be used on several sized thread pitches I swear by the use them for bad hose fittings that are too large for tap and die or odd ball threads.. they come in 3 different sizes for whatever threads you like and you run them on a drill dremel or die grinder
from the "trailer fitters toolbox videos" there is a guy that i think machines the thread off, they builds back up with weld, machines, then re-cuts the threads.
gasoline boils at 140 degrees Fahrenheit you need to get copper coil 12v immersion heater and start vaporizing your stored gas vapor low pressure system
Brilliant from start to finish 🤣🤣 And just when that day couldn't get any worse, his beer can falls over.. 🤦♂️
You deserve that beer Chris, what a day you had . I would of been throwing tools across the workshop 😂

Sit the hammer head in oil once new handle is in. The wood will absorb the oil and make a solid fit into the head.

Your going to have to learn how to sharpen drills with that grinder. Save you loads of money
get a Sealey SMS2008 drill bit sharpener, £56 use them on my cheap and expensive bits, night and day difference when you have sharpened one.

Aye that boys been in that workshop before doing an axel Chris was talking about it in one of his videos
Ivor wheatcroft is that guy, he goes all over the uk sorting out fucked threads
Yeah he’s coming next week I think! Hopefully I’ll be here to watch him do it, cheers Matthew, cheers boys 👍
Wonder if that axle was machined properly
Yes as i think the trailer axle arrives as one lump at the factory,
gasoline boils at 140 degrees Fahrenheit you need to get copper coil 12v immersion heater and start vaporizing your stored gas vapor low pressure system
when the hub nut goes tight hit it with the hammer this will help to realign the threads
Brilliant 😂😂😂
No wonder your wearing nappies Chris, That job would give anyone the shits😮😂
Is there somebody that has a partnumber or website where i can order a thread cleaner like that?
Is the reason the tool broke trying to loosen the nut is because it really was a left hand thread. If it was it should be marked so strugglers know
Can't believe one wheel nut can give you so much trouble.
Like you say one problem like that can mess the whole day up
😯😯

Tty. Using grinding paste in the nut and work it back and forward
The volvo headlight if its owtike my v50 you just pull a tent peg out & the lot comes out. It is a 2 minute job to do a bulb change.
