I love the way you set the mood in your videos, just sounds of the stream rushing by and your boots crunching the rocks, not to mention the aggressive dry fly eats, they’re so enjoyable to watch!
Great video as always. I'm a relative newbie, and fished a dry dropper rig for the first time on Father's Day morning. Had my best day ever on the Neversink River. Thanks for all of the tips you've provided through your videos.
Once again an awesome video. I found and started watching you to learn. You explain topics and techniques excellently. Thank you. But especially on this video your film/video and editing are awesome! Your lead-in is incredible. I appreciate the effort and skill that is so evident in your content. I am glad your back to dropping more videos regularly and look forward to future stuff. You are at the top of my fav pa fly-fishing channels. Loved the salt action @barnegat too.
As always, your dedication to presenting quality videos shines through. Some of those fish had really decent size to them for a smaller stream. That's always a pleasant surprise. Great explanation on the how and why of your set up. Lots of vloggers fail to do that, and could learn something from those, such as yourself, that do. I also enjoy seeing your reaction to missed takes and lost fish. We've all been there and understand the feeling. I call that " keeping it real". Keep up the good work, be careful out there, and God bless! 👍👊🏼🇺🇸
Great video Mike. I requested a wild brown trout video one or two episodes back. You delivered a great one. Enjoyed seeing you land quality brown and brooke trout. Fun to see both wild species from the same stream. Thanks and looking forward to the next one.
Isonychia nymphs are some of my favorite stream critters! Very streamlined strong swimmers. Which helps them feed since they are filter feeders. Their forelegs have long hairs and their mouthparts are comb-like. They hold their front legs together like a basket and use it to strain fine particulate organic matter from the flowing water. Then when it's sufficiently full they pull the foreleg hairs through their mouthparts to ingest their snack. I often see them at the tail end of small pools and you can watch them feed like this.
Great stuff Mike. I noticed so many of those takes were within a second or two of the rig landing. Proof of good line management when you’re able to convert on those as you do! Cheers.
Another enjoyable video. This is one of those videos that requires a standard answer to the inevitable question, "Where was that stream?" Required answer, "In the woods."
Chalk up another great video to Wooly Bugged. I too was surprised at the size of some of the wild trout you were catching. Not sure how much editing you did, but those were some fish to be proud of catching. Also, appreciate the review on the iWaders. I am looking at buying a pair, especially considering their price point. I like the idea of re-enforced knees as I am not as limber as you. Considering these crazy times in which we live, sure hope you enjoyed your day with nature and the peace offered by one of God's creations.
PA Farmboy I’ll tell ya, if I couldn’t get outside, I honestly think I’d be depressed. I’m very thankful to have access to so much here in PA, especially public lands.
Great video Mike. Love the small streams, as you know. Some great fish in there, and a nice brookie! Excellent break down of the dry dropper too. Keep it up! Congrats on 10K, you will be there soon!
Tight Lining MD thanks Mike, ya I have a love hate relationship with the dry/dropper rig. I don’t like casting it and I don’t like fighting a bad drift either. Regardless, it can be effective.
@@WoolyBugged All good points. Its an imperfect system. The other downfall, with tying off the bend of the hook, is that sometimes they miss the dry because the line from nymph pushes away dry as they try to close down. I do like the visual of watching the dry take, or if dry goes under, like its an indicator. I usually double surgeons knot tippet together and then use the "tag" of the line to tie on dry. That gives a very natural drift to it, and lets it sit by itself on top for better hook ups on dry. Keep up the great work Mike, you are crushing it!
Wow!!! Those were some awesome takes, you’re really starting to get good at editing, keep up the awesome work and look forward to the next one Mike! We gotta set up another collaboration sometime this summer, tight lines as always buddy!🎣🐟💦
Wooly Bugged it was awesome! Thanks for asking, if that water was more clear we would’ve probably had an amazing day up there, not disappointed with the results though hahaha but we really did have to work hard for em! Glad I ended up landing one of the big wild browns up there! Not many of them, most of em are just monster stockers, but the big browns are in there and when you hook on you know it!😂😂😂 With that 5 wt I could barely control that fish since it was so heavy!
Mike , always enjoy your videos ! I’m going to start calling you Mr Stealth 😂 ! Love how you approach the water and carefully pick off fish ! Some beautiful trout netted! I see frustration sometimes when you miss the hookset , know the feeling, but overall you look like a pro out there !! Good job ! One question for you ! What camera do you use mounted on the tripod? Tight lines ! I have success with the Isonichia nymph , landed me so nice trout!
The day of second chances! haha wow. Great fishing. I noticed on the failed hook sets (and I struggle with this too) they seem to happen when you set the hook upwards or against the current. I read that because fish sit facing into the current waiting for food we should try to always set the hook with the flow of the current and towards the body of the fish, instead of pulling it out of their mouths. Just something I noticed in the footage. Either way cheers! Great video as always. Can I ask about your back pack and chest pack set up? It looks like it's fishpond and one piece but I assume its two different pieces and I also noticed you have a camel pack for drinking?
I'm glad you noted that friend, I read the same thing and applied the technique and it absolutely was effective, you're absolutely right. If you're approaching the pool from downstream and casting upstream, you're going to want to set the hook down stream. I found that my hook up ratio significantly increased when using this in situations where I had the proper space to execute.
Hi Mike, recent subscriber here. Your vids are among the best on YT for all of us crazy fly-heads. Are we going to see any over the winter or are you froze in? All the best......
Love that intro....definitely professional quality. I know it would be a ton of work, but have you thought about doing a feature film - a half hour to an hour? I would think some outfits like TU wouid be interested.
Great video . Very informative and entertaining. I have a question for you . What type chat / backpack system do you use ? I have been looking for one and I would appreciate any input you can give me . Thank you
the effort you put into these videos is evident. great content.
Thanks Daniel.
I love the way you set the mood in your videos, just sounds of the stream rushing by and your boots crunching the rocks, not to mention the aggressive dry fly eats, they’re so enjoyable to watch!
Thanks so much for another awesome video. I love you explaining why you use the flies you use. Thanks much.
Mike Smith hey Mike, glad to hear that’s helpful, I’ll try and do that with more frequency.
One of your best episodes to date. Nothing better than I hungry wild trout rising to a dry! Excellent.
Great video as always. I'm a relative newbie, and fished a dry dropper rig for the first time on Father's Day morning. Had my best day ever on the Neversink River. Thanks for all of the tips you've provided through your videos.

Another great video and we learn a lot of helpful knowledge from you. Thank you, Mike. Hope you enjoy fishing with your iWader also.
Beautiful water Mike. That stream reminds me of the ones I fished in NW PA near Bradford.
Wow!!! Those were some awesome takes, you’re really starting to get good at editing, keep up the awesome work and look forward to the next one Mike! We gotta set up another collaboration sometime this summer, tight lines as always buddy!🎣🐟💦
Osny Fishing Adventures hey Owen, thanks you. Hey, I saw your brown trout video from up on Spruce, how’d you like that up there?

Awesome video Mike! I loved that dry fly action. Those were some beautiful trout, I like to call them “small stream jewelry”.
Mike your content is awesome! Hope your okay, haven't seen a video in a few months. Take care my friend✌️
Well done. Stay safe but keep up the work
great video , would love to hear more technical commentary during fishing, the why and why not while fishing, would help us novices.

Perhaps, stay tuned.
Awesome video Mike! Just curious were you sight fishing all those browns or was it reading the water correctly?
This is my favorite video
Of yours
Luke Brittin thanks Luke!
Totally agree. Thanks.
Love that intro....definitely professional quality. I know it would be a ton of work, but have you thought about doing a feature film - a half hour to an hour? I would think some outfits like TU wouid be interested.
Ian Jones funny you mention that, I have some script ideas I’ve been tossing around.
Mike as always a great video. Question. Would a nymph work well in the small streams that you fish? Also, what dry fly floatant do you use? Thanks.
Great video . Very informative and entertaining. I have a question for you . What type chat / backpack system do you use ? I have been looking for one and I would appreciate any input you can give me . Thank you
On the dry dropper rig, what size is your dry fly? Looks like a 12 or 10
Where you been, Mike? Long time no see....
You need to fiy fish blairstown nj in the spring time I get alot of big ones in blairstown
Great hello from France basque country
These guys who catch a fish on their first cast just tick me off : )
Just the way it’s goes people are just really good at fishing
What backpack is that?
Portugal
It would be nice if you would mention what creeks you are fishing in the videos
Look in the Pa. Compendium for Class "A" wild trout streams. In NJ they are open all year.
We all need a second chance….
All those fish you caught were fat. Lots of food in that stream.
Ya boi Gordon a few slate drakes for breakfast, a few slate drakes for dinner.
Looks like they didn't have any apprehension in taking the dry.
They were looking for the Slate Drake that day.
Dinks! Can't waste my time, I look for bigger
You’re my hero Dave.
