When I got a replica, I got instructed in safety as if it were a real gun and was told that if it occurred to me to EVER point it at a living thing, it would be gone before I could say 'Bang'. Drills for what to do in the event of a shooter are completely absurd to Europeans. But then we can't get firearms at grocery stores.
I agree in general only the police,military etc ( authorities have firearms) and the rest only for hunting or sports with arms( You need alot of authorisation for both) in rest are prohibited for general public.
I grew up with guns and went hunting with my dad (I was his bird dog) and he always had his guns unloaded and locked up. He kept his ammo separate from him guns. He was adamant that no one would be able to hurt anyone with his guns. I’m not a fan of guns for various reasons but I was always proud that my dad made sure his weapons were locked away and safe.
I don’t know how I feel about the safety measures at schools because on one hand I agree that we need to make sure kids and adults aren’t bringing weapons into schools on the other hand I’ve read articles about how it interferes with students learning. There was a black student who was getting harassed by cops on his way to school and then having to go through metal detectors several times at school to where he missed learning in one of his classes , and I felt his frustration. I mean guns are an issue even outside of schools, we just have a big issue with them being easily accessible and it’s leading to more and more deaths and our leaders are refusing to do anything about it 😢 I personally don’t want a gun in my home ever.
