V-series phones are much more focused on the manual modes. I have the v20 and I haven't used auto mode in at least a month because manual mode is just waaay better
I have the v30 and the front facing camera is horrible. So horrible that it's not even funny and it feels like LG didn't even bother to try with the front facing camera. So I learned to take selfies with the rear camera with the wide angle lens and it works wonderfully.

June Bug I agree. These reviews don't seem to ever talk about audio quality especially when recording loud videos in concert type settings. The LG V30 blows away the Samsung Note 8 and iPhone 8 and X! Samsung and iPhone sound like mono recordings, whereas LG V30 you can hear the separation of sound between Bass response, mid range and highs. I wish they would do an actual side by side comparison of what it sounds like - and you can't judge based on the crappy built in speakers. But whe you listen with in ear monitors or headphones and do a side by side comparison, you can REALLY hear the V30 is a stand out - especially for audiophiles. And I am listening in the standard mode. I haven't activated the other way of listening because I want to hear what everyone else would hear when viewiny videos. I was honestly shocked to hear how much better the LG V30 sounds compared to the iPhones and Samsung Note 8! 😊

Wide angle is best. You don't need telephoto and bokeh can be done with software like the pixel. So they can keep the normal camera that can do bokeh and have wide angle. No need for 3 cameras.
Anshul Singh I don't know about any app. With the V30 if you go close enough and click on the the item you want to focus on, the background is blurred automatically.

Great comparison of the auto mode! Each phone definitely has their own specialties and downfalls, however, everything changes when manual modes are used. LG and Samsung both offer manual on their phones and it's unfortunate that Apple has not included that in their phones. On that note, I believe that focusing and color correction goes to Samsung, Lens correction and audio goes to LG and clarity and sharpness goes to the iPhone. For daily use, the Samsung or iPhone would be the best bet. However, if you are a content creator, photographer, videographer, etc., I believe that LG is your phone which includes manual photo AND video mode with different cinematic settings and RAW formatting.

Great review. Have been an isheep for a long time but the cost of the X is silly especially when you have to purchase the quick charger separately. Have been eyeing the V30 since the pre production reviews and this looks easily the most versatile Android on the market. It’s a shame LG took their time to launch it and at £800 in the UK it’s still very expensive. As soon as this comes down in price and Carphone Warehouse no longer has the monopoly on official sales I will be buying it.
Combine the S8's stabilization and selfie cam quality with the X's zoom and the V30's wide angle lens and you've got the perfect smartphone camera. For a 6 month old single lens camera, the S8 compares well to the new V30 and X. I'm excited to see what upgrades the S9 will have.

Hi guys! I have a really weird problem with my new S8: When connected to my PC, I can not copy any file(or only 1) from my smart phone to my PC, because it will say there is an error. What is weird is the fact that I can put music to my phone, and music is working, but to copy pictures it is not possible. I have tried to debug my phone but the problem did not dissappear. When I got my LG G5 months ago to use as a stopgap phone to replace my broken Nexus 6, I looked at the wide angle lens as some sort of stupid gimmick. Well, after using it, it became the deciding factor for me in my next phone. It's one of the bigger reasons I went with the V30 now.

I feel like since the tests you used didn't really have consistent conditions from phone to phone, they really cant be used to compare them. Does anyone know why my brand new LGV30 takes worse photos than the LGV10 i had? Does the camera have plastic cover? It's still brand new so i haven't updated the system yet. Maybe updating the system will solve the problem?
In your fast focus test there were differing amounts of light falling on the hand, the V30 being very dark in some of the footage. This will have affected the auto focus speed quite a lot. Try again indoors with the same amount of light on each subject. That would give each camera the same variables.
My daily driver is the V30 and what I like about it most is something you didn't get into and that's the manual controls! They put the V30 way out front IMO. And I didn't even mention the superb audio capabilities of the V30, I'm loving it! Keep up the great videos!!!

I think something went wrong with your camera settings on the v30, I've seen slow motions on the v 30 and they are not that bad. I'm pretty sure the S8 has a selective focus option, The S6 had it, and it is comparable to the iPhone X

The S8 has "Selective Focus" which is a lot like portrait mode but it takes about 3 seconds to take the photo.

I bought a V30 3 days ago with $120 (like new). At this time, Iphone X likenew be selling with $430. So the LG is underrated and I love it.
