Please make another video about saladins battles
Can't wait for cannae.
@@alihussain2458 There will surely be more of Islamic battles. Battle of Ain Jalut is planned for July.
@@TheChuckfuc There will be 2-3 episodes before Cannae. There are some very important things to cover before the big event, but it's coming :)
Tactical brilliance aside, the fact that he kept a diverse group of troops on the battlefield without any historical evidence of rebellion is truly amazing
Indeed. Different cultures, different languages, different styles of warfare that his troops are used to. Quite remarkable leadership qualities.
He must have been a man of exceptional charisma and leadership skills.
I suspect the amazing victories help kept everyone under his command
Makes me wonder. He mist be tall handsome and strong. Or is he like Napoleon or hitler? Small and fierce? Wonder how he appreance was
Praise for a general who kills his own troops on a forced March.
When you said that area was rendered impassible due to flood marshes, I knew that was where Hannibal was gonna go.
Hehe, of course. Only Hannibal.
Romans: “You can’t pass the Alps.”
*Hannibal goes through alps*
Romans: “You can’t go through the marshes!”
*Hannibal goes through marshes*
Up next (maybe?):
Romans: You can’t beat 80,000 men!
Hannibal: *orly?*
When he said that part is unpassable i thought of how the germans passed though the Ardens so i was sure they would do the same here.
@@virusguy5611 Romans: You can't take Rome!!
Hannibal: Hmm.... You're right.
Same mistake the french made during WW2.
Gallic soldiers: "THERE HE IS!"
Flaminius: " oh shit..."
In a nutshell. Haha.

@@HistoryMarche Cannae! :-D
@@HistoryMarche and battle of zama too! :D
Such an underrated event. Everyone talks about the crossing of the Alps and the battle of Cannae but to me , this was Hannibal masterpiece.
I Don't Think trasimene is as a big Victory compared to cannea but it is surely Hannibal at his Best it is surely a Tactical feat on it,s own , The fact that up till this day Trisemene Remains the biggest Perfect Ambush in history is truly Amazing and it tells you something about Hannibal
Completely agree. I pefer Alexander's Balkan campaign to anything he did in Asia. And I think Caesar's victories in North Africa and Spain were more impressive than against Pompey or Vercingetorix. Though Alesia much like Cannae and Gaugamela are timeless victories.
to be fair,. Cannae was absolutely brilliant
So glad you've finally passed 100,000 subscribers - you deserve way more though! Your videos are criminally underrated.
Agreed the maps and animation is some of the best i have ever seen
Thanks guys. Hey Barris, great to see you here. Love your Cinco de Mayo avatar.

Hannibal is by far my favourite general from any time period, I can never get enough of videos about him. To see somebody cover period of Second Punic War in this detail is really nice.
appreciate that ❤
hannibal barca why did you have to lose bro?
Don't forget Khalid ibn Al Waleed
I have always had a great fascination with Hannibal and scipio. The 2nd punic war has everything you would expect in a great fantasy novel blood oaths of Revenge , glorious victories, herioc last stands Two of the greatest generals in History going head to head and You guys are doing an excellent job covering this war.
Indeed. I'm quite a Hannibal fan boy, and the 2nd Punic War is definitely a remarkable tale. I try to mostly follow Hannibal's story but the war itself was actually far more complex.
In ancient history, maybe that is even debatable as people like alexander existed.
Hannibal and Scipio were top tier generals, better by leagues by many of their contemporaries, but even they were not the best or honestly within the top 10 of all time.
@@resentfuldragonlol ok....
I can tell that the battle of cannae is going to be the best video so far
There should be at least one episode before Cannae to cover some of the events and to cover some events surrounding Hannibal.
@@HistoryMarche You should definitely cover some of the other engagements such as the Battle of Ager Falernus and the Battle of Geronium.
@@PolluxA Indeed.
@@HistoryMarche You seem to like that great man : Hannibal, i'm just saying but his worth the love, such a strategic, ambitious B.C man is worth it
One of the greatest ambushes in history. Very well planned and executed.
I'm pretty sure I was the biggest in history as well
@@harleyokeefe5193 Absolutely :-)
Romel Negut I was surprised when I first heard that because I thought it tutuburg forest (sorry I know I butchered that spells) but turns out I is more well known but not the biggest
@@harleyokeefe5193 Can't contradict you on that.
@Obi-wan Kenobi Actually the Battle of Gaixia (202 B.C.E) was a larger ambush with 600,000-700,000 Han forces trapping 100,000 Chu forces. Gaixia was not nearly as surprising as Trasimene because the Chu forces knew they were walking into a trap, but did so because their commander's beloved concubine had been captured and was being used as bait (this was the inspiration for the famous Chinese opera whose title is often translated into English as "Farewell my Concubine"). However, the Chu forces lost 80,000 men, so it was a much deadlier ambush than Lake Trasimene. Basically an ambush with loss of life approaching the level of Cannae.
Hannibal was the master of using the geography of the land to his benefit. Can’t wait to get home and watch this one! Good to see you are continuing this. Looking forward to your take on Cannae.
Great to see you man! Should be one more episode at least before Cannae, there's some important stuff to mention before then :)
I agree - the escape from the Volturnus valley is a must
@@FlashPointHx Shh, no spoilers! :D
The description as the Roman army makes its way along the shores of the lake in the mist was chilling and it must have been a terrifying experience when Hannibals army descended upon the Romans! The taste of revenge must also have been very sweet for the Gauls, finally taking down the man that had caused them so much grief in the past. This attention to detail adds so much to these battles its a treat to watch!
Thank you sir for the kind feedback.
Imagine being so badass that a feat of military greatness you pulled off is still unmatched. If only Hannibal knew how cemented in history his name would be.
Numidians and Gauls fighting together. Awesome stuff.
*Cisalpine Gauls, which are just Northern Italians, not exactly French people.
Omg, Hannibal is unbelievable, I've read stories about him in the past when I was younger and knew how an amazing general he was, but this series showed me he is extraordinary! thank you!
Glad you're enjoying the series. I'm working on part 11, the Battle of Cannae. It's a big project so I can't give any dates currently, but it's work in progress :)
Unbelievably great narrative style as always. Knows when to switch from Hannibals PoV (when explaining his decision and his march across the swamps) to the Roman PoV (when describing the scene of battle from Roman eyes to explain why they couldn't anticipate an ambush and how it may have felt for a Roman soldier) and then back to Hannibal (when describing how he set up his ambush).
This, alongside the animation and sound combines to make a perfectly epic video.
Thank you sir. It's great to see when someone digs the overall setup.
History Marche plus lake trasimene, you know this is going to be the highlight of the month!
Cheers mate.
@@HistoryMarche I might have watched like 20 times now! Iam leaving it play while iam working. There are some things that you do that really makes me wonder about your methods, especially the way you fit the size of one map with the other more detailed map without losing too much quality. Congratulations, anyone who tries to animate anything like that will really learn to appreciate your work even more from what the eye can see.
Hannibal was a genius .
I understand now why the teacher of history was forcing us to say « Hannibal the Great Barca » instead of saying just « Hannibal Barca « when I was young in my school in Tunisia
Well he truly was Great. Many lesser leaders were called Great.
HistoryMarche I agree with you.
Barca was a super and exceptional leader .
That's why he is the best military commander in the history for me and for many other people ✌️
Hannibal Barca gotta be amongst the top 5 most skilled commanders in history. Never lost a single battle on Italian soil.
But did on his homeland
Hannibal was a master of battlefield tactics but he was not a master of overall strategy. He didn't realize how quickly Rome would be able to replace their destroyed armies... and he had no plan to force the Romans to capitulate by laying siege to Rome itself.
"You, Hannibal, know how to gain a victory, but you do not know how to use it."
-Marharbal (Hannibal's cavalry commander)
Well factor in that the senate in Carthage had stopped sending money and reinforcements. If they had not done that things might have turned out differently.
@@ari3903 He refused to fight there because he lost his Numidian cavalry to the Romans and the Romans chose the battlefield which was vast flat terrain, perfect for Roman legionaries and yet he still was forced into the battle by the Carthaginian Senate while he wanted to bide his time as he knew defeat was almost imminent.
Also he didn't lay siege to Rome because he probably lacked equipment to breach the Roman walls.
Kings and Generals makes good videos, Bazbattles makes great videos, but yours bring me to the battle itself.
That's very kind of you. Thank you.

No natural obstacle is insurmountable for a commander and an army willing to pass through. Our French GQG should have better learned it's history lessons in 1940.
Excellent serie of videos, congratulations for this impressive work !
Thank you sir.
This man was a phenom and an enigma. What brilliance.
Its a miracle what romans went through during this war and still survived. I have heard their famous quote "You are not defeated until you accept defeat". Very inspiring.
same with the first war, they didn't lose land battles for the most part but lost hundreds of thousands in storms at sea.
Almost any other group would capitulate after losing so many men, but the trucked on.
This sometimes backfires though, the paraguayans tried to keep fighting a tough war but ended up losing around 70% of their entire population!
You and epic history are extraordinary channels
These episodes , the commentery and the sounds just made me feel like I am living the battle atmosphere
Great work
Thank you sir.
Thanks!
You bet! Cheers for the tip! Much appreciated!
Your video is so well animated and the voice over is amazing.
This is 10/10 stuff.
Thank you for bringing this, the map really looks gorgeous.
I’ve been to the very spot at lake Trasimene, where this huge ambush occurred.
However, the historical signs and markers place the ambush as beginning to the west of Pasignano, where as this video shows it all occurring to the east of it.
As a junior officer, I had to practice platoon ambushes. These are difficult with about 30 men to sort out for the ambushing group! That Hannibal achieved the feat of placing an ambush of 50,000 men, speaking many different languages, and synchronise the attack must rate as one of the greatest military victories of all time. Cannae was a masterpiece, and even Zama was far closer than it seemed. Only Hannibal’s hesitation while Scipio reorganised his army prevented another victory against the odds. I have the greatest respect for Hannibal as a tactician, but as one of his lieutenants said “Hannibal, you know how to win victories, but not how to use them”!
You really learn a lot more in a short time if you can visualize events. These animations are really great. History teachers/professors can easily make use of these in their classrooms.
You deserve a triumph for this great narration. Hannibal Barca is proud of you!
Underrated channel. On to the 200.000 subs!
I have watched countless documentaries and video about the Punic wars but this serie is by FAR the best one at explaining it. Amazing videos. thank you so much !!!
fantastic. you guys are really putting a masterwork together on the second punic war. i'm going to show my kids this one day.
What a good video ! I watched all of the videos on RUclips about the Battle of Lake Trasimene and this video was the best by a large difference. I am from Colombia .
Baz Battles and Kings and generals have good videos but HistoryMarche adds so much important details makes me feel like I was a spectator in the battle, plus I keep going back and watching but videos about Hannibal its addictive
17 MINS! Of history goodness! Break out the popcorn, its about to get crazy!!!!
Hannibals European tour continues! Bravo sir!
Yep. He keeps on rocking in the Roman world :)
best general of all times. a hero.
He is a great general hatsoff to his stratergies and the level of command he has over his troops which i think even alexander couldnt have
i thk both are great in tactics but Alexander won by bravery, both by boldness tho
Beyond the fact that Hannibal defeated roman armies which were without any doubt much superior to persian troops, and that he didn't have the full power unlike Alexander to direct the war effort on Rome as he wanted. Alexander's armies mutilated despite that its core was constituted of fellow macedonians, when Hannibal was able to maintain an heteroclyte army constituted of many different tribes and cultures
Realy quality videos. This channel deserves more subs and far more views for this Hannibal series.
Thank you sir.

We stayed in Cortona 2 years ago, from CA. We rode Vespas around that area and could see the diagrams of where the ambush happened and the subsequent battle. There is a town there called ODESSA- which means bones (I didn’t know that) and the locals would find human bones from the battle long after.

Best channel ever ! I lost interest in all the channels from youtube, but this one ? NEVER. Keep it up,guys, astonishing work !
another great battle showing hannibal at his best. Skills such as ambush were very common in spain where the terrain was favorable to such forms of combat and i am sure Hannibal learnt the skill well...add in a dose of political commanders for Rome, where each was jealous of gaining glory for themselfs over there own fellow consuls , and you have a receipt ripe for victory. Here we see another firm victory , and imagine the state of Rome , where Hannibal has defeated every roman army thrown at him ...destroying them at a river crossing , and uniting the gauls against them , and now with the indignity of a army group being destroyed in ambush on the march....what will Rome do,? what can they do ? Rome's strength was in its population , and forming army after army...which could defeat any tribal culture , for if you lost a battle , you would not regain the manpower to form another army [or navy] and so you would lose. But what do you do against a general so capable, that he does'nt seem to lose ? :P great video , keep up the series , please :D
then the carthaginian nobles stopped supporting Hannibal and everything went wrong slowly after that
@@mementomori-6666 politics was everything both for the romans and the carthagains.states , rather than the commanders on the field ,..if we take it on pure ability then hannibal wins..but this [like most times in history] is more complex :D
Atrite him out of existence.
