- Rocksmith is the guitar hero game that uses a real guitar. It's intended to teach beginners how to quickly learn guitar with the "Rocksmith 60 day challenge". But what would happen if a professional guitarist were to play Rocksmith? In this video, we find out!
Cory's channel: / corybergeronrecordings
Buy Rocksmith: amzn.to/2ARg28I
Cory Bergeron is the lead guitarist for Safe to Say. He learned to play guitar over 10 years ago before the days of Rocksmith, yousician, and the like. However, he does have experience with Guitar Hero. So despite his lack of yousician and rocksmith experience, will his guitar knowledge combined with his guitar hero knowledge make him the ultimate rocksmith player? Spoilers ahead: no. Audrey and Kate can probably hold on to that title. But Cory does explore the many uses of the game, making it seem appealing for guitarists of all skill levels. He makes use of riff repeater (to learn a riff quickly), rocksmith lesson mode, guitarcade, tone designer (to compare to kemper amp profiler), and more! If all this pro Rocksmith talk sounds interesting to you, you should probably watch the video!!
Just to reiterate, in this video we explore all the functionalities of rocksmith 2014. After Cory's rocksmith review, you can see why it's such a useful guitar learning tool for beginner and pro guitarists!
Also, I want to add a thank you to Cory for doing this video with me. Since I'm not a pro guitarist I couldn't have done it without him. Seriously, go check out his youtube channel: CORY BERGERON RECORDINGS. He's got big plans for 2019, he told me! (He also has videos on his channel where he goes into more detail about his kemper amp profiler if that interests you).
Alright, thanks for watching! Or reading this, I guess.

He's average

Yeah it's starts at 4:52
I started off with rocksmith, played a good 600 hours on it before i bought my own amp and decided to learn through tabs. Personally I think rocksmith has its ups and downs. For instance, it allowed me to learn my chord shapes and be able to play songs easily. The problem i found the most about it is that i wasn't retaining the song. I was always so dependent on looking at the screen to know what to do next that I never actually learned the song. But the fact that it got me started on the greatest hobby i've ever had, I gotta say I owe Rocksmith a huge debt of gratitude.
Likewise, I played guitar for a while before starting Rocksmith and after nearly 400 hours I've got really good at sight reading in it but I can't remember how to play most of the songs in it anymore.
Mudamaza Same here it’s good to know I’m not the only one ☝️
Hey guess it will be the same for me...but as a cpl newbie at the guitar and a late starter (age 35) I hope to get used to the handling of the guitar :) Just like muscle memory at online gaming ;)
@@jackpepperpwb It's almost like with sheet music. You play by reading but there comes a point where you have to stop looking at the notes to fully remember it. Sadly the game doesn't have a mode where it would only maybe hint at what you should play (bridge, solo etc.) instead of always showing the notes.
@@UM83RTO it does have master.mode which will fade the notes out if you get a lot in a row right.
As someone who played guitar for 14 years before touching Rocksmith, it was much easier to just crank the difficulty and not bother with the riff leveling up features.
Obviously if you are just learning, its better to keep it that way
CHAINBRAIN
fancy seeing you here, but i guess it makes sense
that's what cory was saying... but i wanted to give him the authentic rocksmith experience lmao
Ive been playig for a little over a year and I crank the settings to max but I play easier songs, the level up feature was confusing me.
agreed
As someone playing guitar for some 15 years, this game was unplayable until I figured out you could flip the tab around. I love it now. Great video. Cheers.
You can google how to fix the latency. Also, you should have inverted the tabs for him and I think he would have picked it up even faster. Good editing.
i wish we thought of that. i didn't even know you could do that, but noted. thank you.
wish i had you as a consultant beforehand lmao
If you use tabs I'd recommend you do it as well. It makes going back and forth between the two much easier. The go through the neck look is great for beginners who have no idea what tabs are. Yes the brain still adjusts after a few minutes, but playing RS inverted makes bouncing back and forth seamless and helps your tab reading.
@@hopfrogg9599 awesome. I'll give it a go
Damn I didnt know you could invert them. I had been playing guitar for 10yrs when the game first came out and the inversion is what messed me up. I never got passed like the 2nd song. Hated it. I'm gonna have to go back and try again now lol.
If you use a computer to play Rocksmith you can use a common speaker to play without any latency, but probably you used an HDMI cable, so that was the reason of such latency. I've had this problem when connecting my PC to my TV set, so I managed to just show video on TV and audio on my speaker/headphones
Editing on point bro
Ps. Thanks for 136 likes‼️
Thx my dude
Np 🙌🏾🤙🏾
I was going to say the exact same thing
I've been playing guitar for like 10 years and I love rocksmith I got it because I figured it was like guitar hero with an actual guitar... which it was. As someone who already knew how to play it was like using a skill I already knew to play a video game, I loved it.
That’s why I bought it today, and yeah after playing 32 years, just crank the difficulty to max and play.
I can't tell if this video is a joke. I like it.
it's
Redlight Blue will will likely never know then eh?
Redlight Blue does that mean it’s as in it is or it is.....
I started playing guitar back in 2015 when I was a freshman in High School. A friend showed me Rocksmith and I instantly fell in love with it. Four years later, every cover on my channel are all songs I’ve learned from Rocksmith, because of Rocksmith.
rocksmith on. i still have a hard time of remembering the notes outside the game aha. still a lot of fun to play though
Much of that is simply repetition Redlight Blue, I'm the same way. I don't always pick up every single note but over time I remember more and more each time I practice and play.
You should have used the PC version which has considerably less latency which can further tweaked in the ini file to no latency.
i bought it. we'll do it again
@@RedlightBlue
The other trick that everyone ends up using to actually learn the songs and check they're techniques, is use a pedal to split guitar output to an amp and to game with the guitar turned down in the game.
Redlight Blue there is also a setting to correct lag although it’s not perfect. It vary with setup
Almost all the latency cones from using hdmi audio. Shits slow af and makes the game unplayable through a tv.
@@benfennell6842 Yeah don't use HDMI (not for the sound anyway), the latency makes it extremely unfun. There'll always be a little but at least it's bearable
Also let the dude flip the strings if he wants. I bet he loves tabs
Shared and liked 👍. Great editing and fun video. My son learned guitar from this game and his band won battle of the bands in Largo FL. His band is called "Roadblocks band" if you're interested.
Glad you liked! :) and very good name, I'll check them out now
cool name... roadblocks
I can say that I've owned the game for a day, being very bad at guitar, and my playing has significantly improved in that timeframe. I still suck, but I suck less. Edit: With about 40 hours in the game, I can freaking play the Hypnotize solo at full difficulty relatively well.
Hope you're doing even better 2 years later
And updates?
Can you remember the songs though…
What a great video! Only thing that I would say is that you shouldn't have output the audio through HDMI (at least that's what I thought you did) as that's what caused the terrible latency.
that is what we did... didn't really bother to google it either... but thank you! :)
Your production quality is amazing. The video editing is outstanding. Really enjoyed the video nice job I'll keep watching
This game would be great if the audio didn’t lag behind so much
You have to mess with your speakers
Going directly into the speakers/receiver is best get alot of lag if the audio goes from the console - TV - surround sound/soundbar
Clickbait though, there’s no Rocksmith ‘2019’, it’s called Rocksmith Remastered now.
my bad
i was so dissapointed
Martin Stenshjemmet even that is over a year old.
freedustin but it’s the latest version we’ve got 🤷🏼♂️

Hey dude, been going through your videos to find this one thing you said sometime back. About some 15min practice and 15min off sort of thing. What do you call that again? Haha

Bro your content is amazing, I love the humor you bring. Definitely one of the better RUclipsrs on here
first time on this channel & I've gotta say - the editing in this video is gold. Subbing now.
As someone that has played Rocksmith on and off for four years, I can say with regular practice you can definitely learn and play guitar through this game
Why does no one ever read the leaflet inside the game. You can cut the latency by following those guide lines. Or is it different for Xbox?
tbh it's my bad. but now i've bought the pc version, so we'll be doing it again soon.
@@RedlightBlue I was going to say, on console hdmi for audio is really bad for this game.
If you go into the options on PC there's an "audio engine" setting. If you have a really good PC you can turn this down to 2 (default is 5) to reduce the amount of buffer frames, so the audio latency will be barely noticeable. Just make sure not to use HDMI for audio.
I'm excited to see your next video.
There is no workaround for cutting latency on XBox. Its just how Microsoft handles audio, and there is no fix.
In regards to Xbox One, this is a reply from Ubisoft when I asked them about audio latency: Thank you for contacting Ubisoft Support. The Xbox One does not have analog connections and therefore, the best setup is with an optical cable directly to a receiver that does very minimal sound conversion. This setup works well for most users, but still will show increased audio lag compared to the Xbox 360 version utilizing analog connections.
nephyril well, Shiiit.
Really love your editing skills!
Great vid! Would love to see a follow up using an ABY pedal splitting into the Kemper and muting the in-game guitar modelling. Sounds sick and no latency - completely different experience
I just tried rick smith today, been playing guitar since I was a kid. I can read tabs like in GuitarPro and play pretty accurately as the song goes but Rocksmith is harder for me to read and see what’s coming. I wish it was normal tabs but maybe with time I’ll get used to it. I really like the amp modeling and stuff sounds pretty nice.
0:06 I'm sorry, but the fact that Guitar Hero World Tour was flipped into Guitar Hero lll hit me like a truck.
I've been using Rocksmith for years for fun and just to keep my hands in better shape as I have neurological damage from motor vehicle accidents. I tell people all the time to try it. I've been playing since the age of 12 and I'm 45 now, it's still fun and you always learn something or a different perspective of doing stuff as well. It's a great system for anyone
This video is so well done
This video is edited beautifully. You need more subs dude.
I agree
thanks dude :) but im more of a burger guy

Rocksmith got me back into playing music again, safe to say I am a fan of it. Wish there had been something similar when I originally started playing 20 years ago.

This video is brilliant man. Love the edit and the jokes. Shared with my fellas. Keep it up!
glad you liked :) i hope the fellas enjoy it too
Really entertaining video guys. nice job.
Sooooo, nobody is going to say how nice edited is this
Pros of rocksmith :
- Easy to grasp lessons
- Decent technique exercises
- Guitarcade
- Ability to slow the song or speed it up
- Ability to add less or more notes
- Engaging and fun, possibly making practice more exciting for some people
Cons of rocksmith (in my opinion) :
- Takes far longer to improve than learning without it
- Hard to sometimes hear your mistakes with background music (muted notes, bad hammer-ons pull offs, etc)
- Limited song selection without paying
- Nearly impossible to retain a song, when you put it down you realize you still can’t play guitar
Overall :
I think you’re better off without rocksmith, I’ve tried it and sank 100 hours. 10 hours without it and I was already much better than anything I had learned in those 100 hours. A year later and I don’t regret being self taught without rocksmiths help, I believe I’m 100x better than I would’ve been. It’s a good game for fun when you’re skilled already, not so much for learning because of the flaws I mentioned.
Would you say rocksmith+ is better since it uses tabs?
Also on this review do you think rocksmith is better only for *some* stuff like guitarcade?
Rock smith is what I used to teach myself guitar for the most part. When I first got my guitar, I played by ear decently but rock smith seemed like it would teach me more! So I got it for Christmas whenever I was 16, and by no surprise I can play a lot of songs now! I’m still working on trying to perfect pinch harmonics and two hand tapping while also memorizing how to play songs without the game but now I’m getting into doing my own riffs and messing with my own tones. Great way to learn! I always recommend it to people wanting to get into playing guitar!
DatRandomSeal MYFHS I have a question how simple can it make it because I’m a beginner
And I really wanna start

Love all the blink riffs and other pop punk stuff throughout the video!
The display they used had shit latency. I found that using analog outputs works the best.
On my pc with my speakers it's waaay better. Next time.
@@RedlightBlue i bet it works great on pc. I have the ps3 version and i get display lag on some sets but no audio lag. Turning on game mode can help.
I get the most out of my overdrive tones with my Sony home speakers from the 90s...so oldschool, the wires clip on for the sound...the lows sound stupidly beefy though 😂😂😂
You scared me with that thumbnail dude bc I thought a 2019 version released and I've just bought the 2014 one :^)
It's just prank
I don’t even care for rocksmith or play guitar but I need to point out that your editing and graphic skills are super on point. Why doesn’t this dude have more subs??!!! Keep at it!
I took some lessons years ago, I got back into the guitar because of the Rocksmith. I agree guitarcade really helps with dexterity, and I've enjoyed growing learning to play songs. Now I'm in a band of old farts like myself, but Rocksmith really helped me get through the that first year where people give up. You get what you put into it. Castle Chordhead really caused my hands and fingers pain that helped me grow. I also like scale ninjas and star chords. There are many ways to practice with the program that keep you intersted and moving foward. It can't be the only thing that you use, but it's a good tool.

That audio lag is horrendous, are you playing through HDMI? You can hear the pause in between his playing and the sound coming out in the tone editor
... it is through hdmi
Redlight Blue that’s why there is the delay, playing through HDMI creates a big input lag. Should try to get an RCA cable for your Xbox 360. The difference is huge. You will probably enjoy the game a lot more ha. Great video though!
@@RedlightBlue rocksmith.ubisoft.com/rocksmith/en-us/setup/index.aspx Here is the link to ubisofts page for recommended audio set ups. They strongly suggest not using an HDMI
Nice video. I think Rocksmith deserves way more recognition than it currently gets. I still meet plenty of guitarists who have never heard of it. Granted it wouldn't necessarily suit all of them but it's a really cool thing that more people should be aware of.
thanks you :) and agreed! i think it's a legitimately good resource for practicing but is kind of frowned upon because it's dressed up as a video game
This was sooo funny. Make another video with Cory.
you should have it reviewed again with a pc with lower latency so he can have also the best case scenario
Honestly, not a bad idea. If it goes on sale, i'll probs buy it so we can do that

www.g2a.com/es/rocksmith-2014-edition-remastered-steam-key-global-i10000001861004 another cheap source
and the same cable works with consoles and pc, just try to connect analog audio output to it, with 16-bit 48hkz format both the cable and the speaker, for me the speaker works with 24bit or 32bit format but the sample rate has to be 48khz, and if using HDMI try using game mode on the tv or display if it has it, all enhancements add delay, and there is also a setting for delay correction at the options menu.
well.. i just bought the humble bundle. you should be a salesman

I don't know you, but I loved all the songs you played on the background! Loved the video
man, i love ur vids too! and yeah, pop punk til i die
The only reason I can play guitar is because of Rocksmith! At the same time they need a live online version to play with others next. My friends are too lazy to learn to play with me 😂
This is nothing to be proud of
cenns52 Why all of your friends play music together? Do you have any friends???
@@cenns52 why not?
If these ass clowns in the comments can't even fix local latency issues, they'd NEVER be able to stream live online. It's a moot point, though. With the latency across every ISP in the country, live online play is most likely impossible.
u played lots of blink songs in the background my dude
Blink til I die
The only thing I ever used on rocksmith was my 1st day playing a guitar and I watched the video tuitorials and I have to say it was a great jumping off point.
The production of this video is awesome. It felt like I was watching a documentary.

Very nice video editing
This video and this channel are actually very underrated good ass fucking job goddammit

This was awesome to watch Rocksmith has definitely improved my guitar and bass playing so much I love the game. I think that he kept talking about the latency I feel like there might have been a lag between the audio and stuff I don't know if you recalibrated it or if you had headphones on if it would actually work better because of the whole latency both the game and speakers thing but anyway looks like you had fun I liked
I love playing Rocksmith, it's not perfect but it's a good way to learn music and I hope they keep improving the technology. I'd love to see it for percussion too, like how some people connect their e kits to Rockband on PC.

I’m a guitarist and professional bassist. I love rocksmith, it’s a fun way to just relax or learn some new tunes and definitely is a good practice tool to get technique down or get up to speed. Personally I bypass the in game tones because of the latency, I plug in with my line 6 helix and use my own tones for the songs. I turn down the guitar volume in game so I’m only hearing myself play along with the song.
i'm gonna have to start doing that! seems to be the best solution
I like how you just sat there with your guitar the whole video.
I love how hilarious this guy is. Slowly becoming one of my fav subs

But what about that pro guitar player?
That is so excellent!!!!

THAT EDITING IS EPiC
Now this is epic
+1 to editing skills, I have much to learn
This looked like a really fun day actually! I still need to try Rocksmith at some point. I feel like the latency would destroy my will to live but it does look really fun, and the guitarcade would definitely be a good way to force me to practice my technique in a way that's actually... you know, FUN. I could _definitely_ use the practice!
idk why, but this got marked as spam. but yeah, apparently there's a fic to the latency... so your will to live should be safe for now!
I'm a semi pro guitarist produer and i am working with Rocksmith since the beginning it has been my best friend learning has never been easier then going in to the track they really need a sweep lesson
Dude the editing is too good :o
You're too good
agreed, should be illegal
The latency is pretty fixable. I take the optical out from my playstation to a converter, to my audio technicas. adjust the setting in game. pretty damn tight. Rocksmith has gotten me to play more and learn more songs. I think without it, i'd be slacking off lol
