“WoLakota” implies balance and coming together. The WoLakota project supports students in high-need schools, pairing trained mentor-teachers with new teachers and providing Courage to Teach circles to tend to the ʻheartsʼ of each. Mentors support the embedding of the Oceti Sakowin Essential Understandings (OSEU) into practice, complementing the Common Core. The OSEU address the achievement gap of American Indian students by embracing their identity, and promote cultural understanding among non-native students and teachers. Lakota Elder Dottie LeBeau states, “When we approach teaching with one worldview…we create systems of failure in our schools.”
WoLakota closes the circle into a system of understanding and success.
The WoLakota Project is a partnership between TIE and the SD Department of Education

An amazing life...love his interviews. So much history. I stopped at Little Big Horn on my Harley in 2009 to see the history and went to crazy Horse to see the monument. Beautiful country. Stopped in Deadwood. He's lived a full life and one of respect...lots to learn from his example Thank you!

It is so interesting that Chief Bald Eagle pointed out that Marilyn Monroe was killed. He was her good friend and would have known her habits. Its sad we'll probably never know the truth of what happened to her. I absolutely love this series with Chief Bald Eagle. He was a legendary man!

My father was a WW2 veteran and was Choctaw Indian him and his brothers played Indians in old westerners and made $5 every time they got shot off of a horse. He and his brothers made enough to buy grandma an Edsel.. He was actually in the horse cavalry so he was a good horse rider. Once one of the guys kept saying whoa as they were riding down a steep hill and the producer said cut, Indians don't say whoa.

This guy says "“When we approach teaching with one worldview…we create systems of failure in our schools.”"
I can't think of a more limited world view than that of Indians. The pow wow videos on You Tube show feathered Indians dancing to banshee wailing. However maybe I'm missing the videos showing them involved in technology, art, literature, transportation, mathematics, humor, law, manufacture, music, politics, weapons, materials, space exploration, and communications.
