Hi, the thing you talked about in the corner that you did not know what it was! Well is known as a copper! This was filled with water then you lit a fire where the metal door was and the water heated up was used on wash days when people had wash houses and needed lots of hot water. They will even boil the water! Now being a bricklayer in another life many years ago I had to rebuild a copper at an old-fashioned butcher's shop in some outbuildings as they need gallons of boiling water! Now the flue of the copper is built around the metal bell-shaped inside so the heat of the flue runs around this upwards and heats the water up not only with the fire underneath but the flue gases also help heat the water! Handy if you want a bath and need a lot of hot water! Mind it looks a bit rusty. It would need a good clean before use! Plus it must go up to a chimney somewhere as well or did do at some point in time. K.
