I think keeping the origin and cause of the blight a secret would be a good idea as its fun to speculate what could it be. Perhaps it was something that was meant to be beneficial that had gone wrong. Like genetic engineering fungus to deal with a food shortage or perhaps to find ways to feed astronauts on another colony (assuming this formerly advance robot building civilization had any space travel tech). And it all went south from there. Perhaps during the transportation of some of the samples ended up in an accident which released the modified spores into the world.
Eric did mention that some of the more affluent members of this society did escape off-world during the breakout of the Blight. So space travel is a thing. Personally I think the whole "science gone wrong" trope has been overused. What would be neat would be if the Blight was the result when a particular animal that fed on the fungus and hence kept it in check either died off or switched to a more abundant food source. Leaving the Blight to grow uncontrollably and have such a serious effect on the planet.
I love the world you’ve been creating, every installment makes me want to know even more! I love the level of detail and creativity in each video you make.
Definitely worth the wait, like how you upped the production value and really digging this world your building, reminds me of Nausica meets starwars..fn awesome my guy.
Because of the coriolis effect winds typically move in different directions depending on height (the resulting structure is known as an Ekman spiral). If the Draneena can sense wind direction it probably has an idea of what this Ekman spiral generally looks like and can probably use it to move in specific directions albeit inaccurately (this is how hot air balloons can alter which way they go). Just an idea.
You know what? I cant paint, I cant sculpt and I cant narrate, but you sure do make one hell of a story line. I would pay to see this on the big screen any day. All of your episodes make like one great "Tales from the loop" type of arc.
Fantastic work. Beyond the Blight has quickly become my favorite fictional universe. I'm not sure it would be physically possible for you to make these videos fast enough to appease my need for more content. As always, you've done an amazing job, and created another piece of a fascinating universe.
Dayum I love how you also put in the story telling makes the video so much more interesting to watch, thus your building is perfect. You deserve way more attention mate
Man why is it that every time I see some dystopian world's I think "it'd be cool to live in it" despite knowing I'd be the first to die lol great build as usual man, every addition makes this series more and more interesting, love it!
One interesting detail I noticed while you were doing the salt-thing is that, while covered in paint, the salt looked like a kind of barnacle or "growth" of some kind. You could call it "barnacle spores" or something similar and use it in some other build that happens in a heavily blighted area. Beautiful build, by the way.
My question is how would the children born in the era of the blight learn and be educated. Would there be an underground school? Or would every parent teach their child?
For the Overs, who were mostly of royal blood or wealthy families, they were able to continue to provide somewhat of a normal education to their children by setting up their own classes and employing private tutors. Their curriculum changed little after the Blight. On the other hand, while the Unders continued to educate their children in public schools (something made possible by their population density), the subjects taught changed drastically, with a focus on echolocation and music, speleology (the study of caves), mycology (the study of mushrooms), subterranean biology, metallurgy, and post-Blight-era history. Of course, the latter was heavily influenced by their disdain for the Overs, something reflected in their texts when discussing the Blight, which was almost always referred to as "tika-tika meng" (trickle down poison), a clever play on the Agesian words used for the small coins given to beggars by wealthy passersby.
Your world building and crafting are top notch. Just when I think the last one was awesome, you come out with this one. Its always a joy to watch you create. 👍.
These are so great. The idea is like a steampunk/scifi take on a horse drawn wagon but mixed with a hot air balloon. I love the idea of scientist and people sort of breeding/cultivating these creatures for this purpose. Like normal wild ones don’t grow that large but with the help of parasite pod pilots they’re able to grow to a useful size. It’s a symbiotic relationship 👌amazing
Very cool build. Might I suggest that something like this could have some sort of small propeller turning engines to allow the pilot a bit of control? Great story to go with the model.
@@gameyybuilds keep up the great work, I loved the short story at the end I've been dabbling with a similar idea for a while now, unfortunately this one peice build has occupied 99% of my creative time.
Very cool build. Considering you're not keeping things to one scale (not a bad thing at all) I think a diorama with all the blends of sci-fi, steampunk, mechanical/organic could be an interesting project. Something like a cityscape, factory, docks or some kind of vehicle crewed by dozens would be cool to see and would offer an interesting bit of lore. Looking forward to whatever comes next!
Thanks! Yeah, I've given almost no thought to scale; I just end up working to whatever scale the materials seem to dictate. I think my weakest area as a builder is in architectural models, so buildings scare me, but I should challenge myself!
@@gameyybuildsI would really love to see you tackle a larger vehicle/structure. I'm sure that you'd make something wickedly awesome. Speaking of scale...where did you get that pilot figure from? What scale is it?
I haven't caught up on your other videos yet, I just found your channel. But, from what I saw for the textured rust effect from Abandoned Miniatures, baking soda works great for rust. Its really hard to find scratch builders that build organic. I like your style. I would love to see more nightmare nature inspired creations. Or be able to support other like minded artists.
Amazing build and video as usual. I know you have mentioned writing full stories in other videos but another more long term suggestion is to make Beyond The Blight into a game. I can envisage a Morrowind style game working really well. I have built custom buildings and models for the railroad hobby for many years but you have inspired me to try my hand at scifi scratch builds. I have an idea brewing for a pre-blight vehicle and then a sister diorama for parts salvaged from the vehicle in a post blight world. Thank you for these amazing videos and allowing us to share in this world.
Working on my second watch thru of "Beyond the Blight". Really enjoying the evolution of skill and story. Thanks for the hard work and really looking forward to the self read book!

you salt trick may not have worked well, but i did see an alternate application for your kitty litter. if you glue the rocks to the mech lowers parts and paint over itll look like clumps of mud.
Another great video! I see I’ve missed a few, though, because I somehow didn’t have notifications turned on for your channel. Got it turned on now. Are there laws of some sort in this world? And if so, how are they enforced? Are there militias in different areas or some kind of centralized law enforcement organization? Are there pirates and bandits? Also, what does commerce look like? Small stalls selling their wares, or something different? I'm sure you've got all kinds of ideas planned out; these are just some interesting questions that might make fun builds.
Nice one. I just would have made the Dramina two or three times bigger to sell the idea it's grotesquely overgrown and actually capable of lifting the craft below. I also think you missed a wonderful opportunity to do some tech/organic integration WH40k style by creating more organic greeblies on the bottom of the Dramina. Some feeding tentacles or mouthparts in sort of a facial cavity would have worked nicely.
Nice build. Really liked the concept of frying by using a creature. My only criticism would be that the creature is too small. For me it's unbelievable that that small balloon can lift that cockpit.

That opening in the floor was supposed to have a small window, but I forgot to stick it in before I put the man inside, and I ended up leaving it open... but yes, it absolutely should have a glass window!
