The growls to me were absolutely perfect for this song. It was one of the rare times I felt that they were absolutely appropriate.
I feel the whole style of the song was a very clear homage/reference to Screamin Jay Hawkins' "I put a spell on you", interesting Tara didn't pick that up
I agree. I think the references and the fact that this was for Addams family kind of went over her head.
I agree with all of you about why she was doing it, but I agree with Tara when she says there were too many. Less is more as they say!!
It was the combination of growls and intentional voice breaks that made this performance so unique.

The movie is a bit standard and predictable, but the songs and performances are fantastic.

Can't believe the essence of this performance went straight over your head. The growls were obviously intended to enhance the nature of the Halloween song. She is 100% playing a character. It's quite obviously exaggerated.
You can be a bit slow sometimes, like when you were too focused on Kelly Clarkson's vocal technicalities in 'Piece by piece' rather than focusing on the beautiful, emotional performance.

I LOVE this woman's voice!
This particular song was a theme song for a halloween movie and the singing style was based on Screamin' Jay Hawkins' "I put a spell on you", give that song a listen and then you'll understand all the growls and everything else in Haunted Heart.
Hi Tara! I see your point and as a fellow vocal coach and Christina's huge fan I totally agree that this song is not gonna be everyones cup of tea. To me it's a good song to show creepiness of a fun concept that Addams Family is. I don't think it was written for charts. I love seeing Christina in more theatrical shoes and the vocals were even more expressive as she was playing character. So many creepy laughs, tone changes, breathy notes, whispers, growls, range and more. It was a great vocal performance and show that is hard to top.
I'm excited for her new albums. I saw her in Manchester last November (3rd row) and she was stunning!

I'm pretty sure this is from The Addams family (2019) soundtrack, so the gritt kind of makes sense considering it's for something of that nature; though, I so agree with you and the fact that this is not one of her best song choices.

Christina is the best vocalist alive. Queen of pop.
Definitely listen to the original. I was curious to see how she would interpret it live. Lots of vocal flicks. It’s also for a soundtrack to a kids movie which explains why the performance was a bit kitschy. I wasn’t sure she’d be able to pull off the song live with the same texture as she does in the studio but thought it was pretty good since Christina’s mid range belt can sometimes be unreliable if recent memory serves.

totally agree with the growls - I understand it was sort of a halloween type event, so the tone should have emulated that - but growling isn't the only way to emulate it

Freya Ridings - Lost without You. Really any of her live versions but the Chapel version from 2 years ago is the best. So much vocal control head to chest transitions are perfect. Such a powerful singer. Must listen and should do a video breaking down her technique.
This song its really different from all the stuff the radios plays now days, that's a great thing about aguilera, she's a risk taker in all the ways posibles. (music, voice, fashion)
