I have watched videos on this subject that were 2-3 times as long and they were confusing as heck. Either they spoke too fast or the camera wasn't in the right position, whatever. I have saved this video for future reference, and subscribed because this fella has an excellent clear voice and manner. By the way I'm 75 y/o and clear voices are a plus for me. Thanks

i agree also the windows seven back up utility still exists in 11 thus to use it type back up into the serach box at the top of the start menu and run that from there choose back up windows seven that's what i still use. You can back up files and folders by copyping and pasting them from the c drive but this is a bit more clumzy as i have to check weather it has worked or not.

When I opened my File History, a notification said: "File History has found files that are encrypted with Encrypting File System, on a network location, or on a drive that doesnt use the NTFS file system. These files won't be backed up". What do you recommend me to do?

Hi there, unfortunately on Windows 11, they've removed the function for you to choose the folders to Include. You can Exclude any folders you like but the Include feature is missing. Now we can only backup the folders Windows chooses for us 😐

I followed your instructions to do a complete image backup. My question is that when the computer does a backup, in an hour, will there be a need to do a complete image backup again or will it only backup the newly added/changed files while retaining the "image file"? Thank you

Like someone else commenting below, I have nearly all my files on onedrive ... and I can't back them up using this method. I try it using File Explorer >> Copy (for each directory) but WIndows reports not enough capacity in the external drive, even though there clearly is. Can you help?

    Hi there
I was wondering if there is a way to choose other folders to back up. I am a photographer and have an HD with images and would like to have that constantly backing up like file history but can't figure out how to do it in windows 11 as you could in windows 11 file history.

Yes, you can add other folders to back up with File History in Windows 11. Here's how to do it:
Open the File History settings. You can do this by going to Settings > Update & Security > Backup > Advanced settings.
Under the Exclude folders section, click the Add button.
Navigate to the folder you want to add and click OK.
The folder will now be included in your File History backups.
You can also use the Manage backup drives section to add an external hard drive to your File History backups. Once you've added the drive, you can select it as the backup destination in the Backup options section.
      I hope this helps! 🚀

Very interesting, Ive just started a first backup, but the question is will it backup c/drive only or will it backup all drives in my computer as I keep my files and folders on f/drive, the backup in file history doesn't specify what folders are actually backed up? cheers P

first, thank you for teaching me how to back up on Windows 11. I was thinking of manually transferring files, which is not a good idea. however, I have a concern regarding freeing up my laptop to have it operate faster. my question is, since I have backed it up on the new external hard drive and intend to keep it as a record " might connect it occasionally" can I delete the data from my laptop?

I spend 2h now on silly advices on Backups (even from Microsoft), without any solution. But this video answered all my questions and solved all my problems. Excellent work . And thank you very very much.

Yahoo. Finally I have found what I have been looking for for days. WD Ultra used to do back ups automatically when I purchased it some years ago, but no longer. I have tired Acronis True Image, but it seems hopeless at automatically backing up files and takes ages to open files. Your very straight forward video explains how I must do it. Next step, purchase a new external hard drive and follow your steps - with fingers crossed. Thank you.

When I'm designing and save my downloads. They show up in my file explorer as a chrome icon. I've tried to change the default folder several times in my google account and on the properties of my file explorer folders because I can never find them when trying to grab them for photo editing. And they show in the folder when I click the show in folder while the tab is at the bottom of my screen. But they just dont show up when im trying to grab them. Is there any way to bypass this? Even if I change browsers? I have a usb SanDisk

I second Peter’s comments on the video. I heard you mention the blue connector on your drive. This is the first time I heard this mentioned in a video. Can you explain the significance of it? My WD drive has a blue connector, but in my brand new laptop I don’t see one. It occurs to me that it would be valuable to inform what version of Windows you are running. If for some reason something you explain cannot be replicated by the viewer, a different version might be a clue to why it happens. Thanks.
