    Note: Exploring Abandoned locations especially mines and caves can be dangerous and deadly. I don't condone or encourage anyone to enter an Abandoned structure. Not only is safety a concern, but often times its illegal and when possible, I seek out permission. I simply go to document its history before it's gone and leave things the way I find them. I assume all the risks & responsibility in doing so. Please don't attempt to do this on your own.

    I'm curious about mines, but would never go in one. There's just way too many dangers in there. Probably the scariest thing would be to step on old, wet dunamite. Cave ins are always a risk. This video is close enough for me.

    • @Aethgeir
      @Aethgeir 24 дня назад +8

      According to some of the other mine exploration channels, the greatest danger is actually false floors. Most mines have multiple haul levels connecting by shafts. When they're no longer in use, the miners would sometimes build a wooden floor across such a shaft. But over time these floors can get covered with waste rock and debris, so that it looks just like the rest of the floor. But just underneath are old planks that have been decaying for decades. One misplaced step and you can find yourself falling several hundred feet down to a lower level. Several abandoned mine explorers have been killed this way.

    My father used to go in the mines when he worked for Joy. They had an issue with a chain, he was the one who went to fix the issue since he engineered some of them. He never came across an issue he couldn't solve to my knowledge. I became a machinist and have made some of the parts he designed to this day.

      Pretty much every split they got to already had something marked pointing in the direction of the exit so it’s really not that bad. I’ve done it quite a few times and for any split or turn I would put a piece of reflective tape on it showing the way out so I could see it if my light hit it. Most of everyone that goes into caves has their own way of remembering or marking the route. It’s the in experienced ones who go in not realizing how big the cave Is or how every turn looks the same that get themselves in trouble but by the looks of it theses guys have done it before and have a way that works for them.

    I was there in '71. I was 4 years old. I went with my foster father, 2 of his brothers, and 2 military buddies of his. The railing was still intact and that hole you were dropping things down had a drain cover on it.
    At 5:59 mins where that solitary section of railing is (again, the trailing was intact the whole way down in 1971), I froze in fear because there was a ghost standing near where that last fat stalactite is. It wasn't so fast then. I had to be coaxed past him. The adults did not see it. We got to the bottom... or I think it was the bottom, it was leveled out, and I saw two more different ghosts and spun around and sprinted up the staircase to almost where I'd seen the other ghost and then stopped because I was afraid to keep going in case I saw him again. I had to wait for dad to come get me.
    That summer I was taken to several unused mines around the country. They would ask if I thought there was any ore left or some mineral.
    I will let you guess why. Because that's all I'm saying on here.
    Done with skeptics.

    • @paulwollenzein-zn1lh
      @paulwollenzein-zn1lh 2 месяца назад +1

      My guess is it was a coal mine. Coal deposits are usually larger than precious metals and minerals mines. The pipes are usually for air and possibly water. All though mines are usually made with a slight hill for water drainage. Some actually put in a much like curb on city streets. Most didn't bother. But probably would depend upon how big the mine is. The bigger it is the more likely you plan for proper drainage. Why you ask? It would keep the water towards the side. Probably by a slight tilt to the floor. This keeps the dripping water away from the center and the rails. Plus it might help the rails last a little bit longer.

Where the tunnel went very wide I was expecting the shaft to be there at the end of the tunnel.

    There are still some old coal digs under Bevier Mo, but I don't think any adits survive!
    The tunnels are slowly caving in, as evidenced by periodic sinkholes, but they are not to bad, and usually dead filledwithin a few yrs!
    It's been 35yrs since I lived there, but I doubt the last has dropped!
    Dad took me to miners lake, where they washed the coal back then, but the Peabody strip mine took over the area, and they had a wash plant at Thomas Hill Lake!
    Not sure of any facts, aside from the history shared by Dad and Gpa, who were both operators of 2 shovels at Peabody, Big Dave and Mo-Mo(Missouri Monster)!
    I did get to view one adit back in 72", but that has long ago disappeared!

    thanks for taking us along again. by far the best video so far. you guys have to be careful, I heard alot of huffing and puffing. I know you guys always do things safe. you need to keep your eyes on those meters and watch those numbers, don't wait for the alarm to sound, sometimes when it goes off it might be too late. be safe and keep the videos coming. by the way, I haven't heard "Bump Bump" in awhile LOL
