    Playing William Pitt the Younger was definitely the highlight of my father, Simon Osborne's acting carrier. When he started acting, he said that his biggest ambition was to be in an episode of Blackadder. And in 1987, his dream came true. He said that Rowan Atkinson, Hugh Laurie and Nick Robinson were really nice guys, and that they got on well with him.

My favorite moment in this very strong field is the way he says, "we'll cheat." He doesn't just utter brilliant lines. But before you say anything about the issue of slavery mentioned, and the attitudes shown therein. I am as much against it as any other African-American. The fact is it happened...No one could have ever been strong enough, smart enough, or even dare put their sheer resources behind its abolition and won anyway. Then replace it with something better, rendering the institution of slavery as absolutely superfluous. Not while so few in power would've lost a lot of money over it's maintenance. Think about it. Slavery doesn't exit now, however, there are always wheels that need to be broken and substituted by something better and more beneficial for all people.

    1:30 Did Rowan just guide him through the scene? Wonder if that was intended.

    • @Gar96229
      @Gar96229 9 лет назад +28

      +GunaBr0ckcl1mb1ng You'll probably find that they rehearsed that scene so many times that Rowan got so use to Pitt the Younger walking away that he did a hand gesture to indicate him walking away, he probably didn't even realise he did it.

    • @johnking5174
      @johnking5174 8 лет назад +45

      +David Ryan Rowan was and always is a stickler for rehearsal. The amount of time spent on every line and movement was extraordinary for a sitcom. He wanted to get 100% perfection, and so I guess that throughout the course of the week these three would have rehearsed this very short scene many times.

    • @AtlasBlizzard
      @AtlasBlizzard 8 лет назад +8

      +John King That's pretty much par for the course for Rowan, indeed. He's a perfectionist and will hone every detail of a performance down to the letter.

    • @johnking5174
      @johnking5174 8 лет назад +26

      That is right. I have seen behind the scenes of some Blackadder episodes, and my God he breaks down each line of the script and works over it for ages to make sure every line, not just his, works perfect. What an actor, what a performer and what a kind man, as he cares not just about his funny lines, but his other cast members too.
