Yay BYU 174th Ward!!!! My husband and I are thankful to have been a part of that sweet ward with all of those wonderful people mentioned, and so many more, too. It truly set a great foundation for our marriage and our life together. This is a great time to look back on those years, and now share our wisdom and knowledge with those in their own formative years!! Great reminder. Thank you so much. ❤

Brother Halverson, thank you for your insights about the Greek language where the words “which” and “who” or “whom” came from the same Greek word. In 1 Timothy 6:16 you explained that the word “whom” would have also been translated as “which,” referring to the light. This background of language has finally clarified Philippians 4:13 for me! “I can do all things through Christ WHO strengtheneth me.” I know it makes sense either way (which or who,) but this just makes my picky ears happy! Thank you! I sure love reading along with you each week. 😁 I especially appreciate your background knowledge of history, language, religion, and cultures. You help the scriptures come to life!

32:53 Lydia Sigourney (important 19th cent. American writer) said on this topic that the less you understand a principle, the more desperately you need to cling to the law. She said it more eloquently than that but it makes me very grateful for all of our laws and instructions, even if they seem redundant or overbearing sometimes

I love these thoughts on shepherding and bishops and grace.
Still struggle with the women stuff. Jesus clearly values women.
I have had these scriptures used against me. In one case i did understand that the small branch needed priesthood. But i was a called of God and His prophet- missionary. The branch president asked us if we could go bring actual missionaries
Wish that was the only time.
It is rough. We in the church do not always do this well.
What do we put in context and what do we not.
I have had the men pray- women shush and dress modestly line suggested. They said i was one for two- i dress modestly. Not so good at shushing. 😂.
    Jesus is good.

It seems to me that one of the deceptions of our day is the world's twisted view of "charity," which places a much higher priority on being nice than truth. Truth then is sacrificed on the alter of virtue signaling. Brings to mind 1 Thes. 2:2-6.

Great lesson, as usual. I so appreciate all the time and effort that you graciously give in our behalf. Bless you! One thought that occurred to me: I would probably consider Adam’s statement, “I will not partake” to be as unilateral in its effects as Eve’s “I will partake,” and both were done without consultation. Love to hear your thoughts. Thank you again for an excellent class. I listen every week.

Around minute 1:40, when you brought up those who speak against the church, you mentioned how selective they can be with their argument points which is hypocritical as they ignore many alternate points in the process. I have also felt when listening to similar arguments, how smug they appear to be. They are so proud of their enlightened mind and look down their noses at all the fools who still believe. Such pride!

    Brother Halverson,
Thanks again for your great work and legacy.
I know you cherish new ideas to see things from a different viewpoint and I’d guess you are not overly familiar with the Dao De Jing or Laozi - the ancient book of wisdom or as I believe revelation from an ancient prophet.
In it, it describes how the female overcomes the male through stillness.
So, possibly Paul was encouraging women to use their superpower in being quiet.
    Just a thought.
    Your dedicated subscriber,
    WZ
P.S. Eve was taking responsibility upon herself by not consulting with Adam. It was a sign of her greatness, not a mistake or weakness. No?

When Paul said the woman shouldn't take authority over the man, could it be that those early saints had the equivalent of an Ordain Women movement? Just a thought.

I remember Br Halverson mentioning before that he recognizes his lessons are too long for some. I think that is ok as there are many of us that love those extra life experiences he is open enough and willing enough to share. I believe he teaches with the knowledge he has learned over his lifetime and in so doing he includes the experiences in the lives of many other wise leaders. Personally I am at a time in my life that I have that time to listen and hopefully grow from these lessons but I also believe that the Most Important thing is that he works to stay in tune with the Spirit! I believe that he is doing a wonderful job of that and I am both grateful and amazed at the time he must put in to share these messages with all of us that are in need.
      Thank-you!
PS - I believe he mentioned that his daughter goes over and removes the extra clips and you may appreciate those ones more.
Either way, try to enjoy this opportunity...and know that the Lord loves you!

his insight is inspired...it happens often, for example, following the reading of the scripture... he will have an immediate comment but then he may pause and kind of look beyond the camera that is filming him and as he does he seems to be getting a prompting from the Holy Ghost which is when some rather meaningful instruction by analogy or metaphorically or just experientially...i understand your impatience but the inspiration he receives and shares is worth the extra time that the lesson takes...i have learned more from three years of following him on Unshaken than i have over the previous 40 years i have been a Christian; specifically a Latter Day Saint (baptized at age 27)..the verse by verse method is extraordinary... i find my self replaying many of the episodes as i want to go over his narration because i know there are parts i missed the first time due to my attention deficit problem (i daydream in the middle of an explanation) thank goodness for the transcript and being able to rewind parts that i daydreamed through...all of the positive aspects of his lessons far outweigh any negative aspects that might be a problem for some of us...my only negative that i can think of is when he uses the expression "talking smack" or "who's your daddy?"..its no big deal other than being slightly irreverent...however, regarding what i have said here i should confess that i am retired and have a lot more time to than those of his audience who are raising families and working 40 plus hours per week..that is all..take ti for what it is worth : )
