    0:00 120 is not the minimum word count. There *are* people who use less - although as you can imagine they're in the minority.
    0:20 I know you said "sometimes", but I'll say it anyway: You don't have to learn more than the pu words to be fluent
    0:43 Same here, this is an edge case, but "nimi mi li X" is what I use and what pu uses

      _mi li_ implies that one is not a fluent speaker in toki pona. _li_ is typically dropped if _mi_ or _sina_ precedes it.

    3:03 HAI got this wrong too. I know enough about Arabic to know that Arabic script *IS* phonetic. The only thing that Arabic script and sitelen pona have in common is that they are both non-Latin scripts, which is obvious to anyone who has a functioning brain and eyes.

    The fact HAI called Arabic orthography pictographic is incredibly painful. Anyone who does a fucking ounce of research would know that it’s phonetic. (Ik that it’s an abjad, and doesn’t really have distinct letters for vowels*, but the point still stands
    *It sorta does but they share roles with consonants)

    The thing that really sucks about HAI's video is it kinda gave me a similar feeling to what HBomberguy described with Illuminaughtii: I'd seen a lot of his videos and found them, well, interesting, but seeing the toki pona video and noticing that almost everything he said was wrong, inaccurate enough to require a mention, or him not comprehending the actual basics of actually pronouncing toki pona words (Sure, it technically doesn't matter how you pronounce the words as the very limited sound inventory means it's kinda hard to say toki pona words in an ambiguous way, but "LOHE"?!?!?!? come on!!!) had me wondering...what else has he gotten this sorely wrong in his other videos? Have I been unintentionally mislead by something he made because it was about a topic I wasn't already studying? Definitely makes me think twice about basically everything he says now.

    "Please don't capitalize Toki Pona sentences" Why? Doesn't literally every language using Latin alphabet letters do this. Is it really a convention in Toki Pona not to? This makes no sense. Is this an actual decision the inventor made, because it seems quite silly. It reminds me more of the base 12 numbering system where symbols don't mean what you think they mean...
    "Arabic is nothing like sitelen pona" duhh... what a silly point to make, you're taking things too literal.. I guess taking things too literal is the literal point of a video explaining language, but I digress.

    • @kulupunasa
      @kulupunasa  Год назад +47

      1. toki pona only uses capitals for proper names, and never for the begining of sentences, this was stated in the official book
      2. this was a video correcting all the mistakes, of course we would mention *all* the mistakes, along with accidentally throwing in one along the way

    • @broccoliflorette1970
      @broccoliflorette1970 Год назад +49

      yes, it's a convention the inventor made. as for WHY you don't capitalize Toki Pona sentences, one reason is so that newcomers to the Latin script have an easier time recognizing the words as they'll all look the same in any context. also, aesthetics

    • @mskiptr
      @mskiptr Год назад +30

      Also, the way you use capital letters isn't uniform between natural languages either. German capitalizes _all the nouns_ for example
      (oh, and ancient Romans didn't have lowercase at all)

    • @eddie-roo
      @eddie-roo Год назад +10

      Writing Toki Pona is like writing Eswatini or Isixhosa instead of eSwatini and isiXhosa. Different languages have different capitalization rules.
      For example, in German you capitalize every single Noun in a Word, while in spanish demonyms and adjectivals are not capitalized.
