    I'm an American who lived in London in 1981, I got to see the 4 Skins at some venue in the East End, only to have it shut down by the police and all of us run off the premises, despite no sign of trouble. My impression of skinheads is that they were no more or less "disaffected" than anybody else, they just were young and had an attitude that bothered some. However, I never observed them making any trouble. They seemed to mind their own business and keep to themselves.

      Lol, I'm an Aussie dual citizen. Witnessed my skin step bro defending himself at least once. Seen a bit of bother and public toilet destroyed just walking round London on holidays with my mum and dad in 81. To say skins never started or got in trouble back then is very naive..

    3.38 - Lyrics from Criminal Class - Blood On The Street taken completely out of context, other verses say exactly the same thing about white youth, ie saying black and white youth are both against the police. A completely one-sided report, I bet even the John Peel section was out of context.

    An unprovoked attack unpressidented at the time on innocent young music fans enjoying a night out in a London pub the police entering the premises were the first indication of any trouble ordering everyone to leave just as bricks took out the windows followed by petrol bombs intent on murder outside we were were showered with more bricks and bombs out of the frying pan into the fire we had no option but to fight even alongside the police who were getting it bad trying to hold the line with a plastic sheild bricks broken paving petrol bombs raining down then the cavalry arrived the S.P.G in riotvans and we the victim's got the blame an injustice that needs to be addressed to this day..

    The fault for the riot lies with whoever organized that gig in that place. I know some of those bands not to be racist but an element of their followers were so bringing that gig to Southall was always going to be like red rag to a bull where the Asians were concerned

    • @colddaze6680
      @colddaze6680 2 года назад

      That's basically truth, and how it went down. Talked to more than 2 eye witnesses that were there. One skinhead girl that was at gig on the night at least. There were at least 4 black skinheads/oiboys that were there at the gig. Stuck in the pub getting Molotov cocktails thrown through the windows from the local Asians, who had been fired up by local hard left. Tbh none of the bands that played gig were racist. Was 4skins, the Business, and Last Resort i heard? All of them non racist Oi.

    Those lyrics have nothing to do with racism. The lyrics have more to do with how to confront what at the time were real threats from the police state and militant marxists. In that context, the lyrics, granted, promoted violent extremes that one must adopt as part of inculcating a warrior way of life. However, anyone who was naive would take it as a trend of violence to follow and try to be cool in doing so, and not as a necessary means to defend oneself in the face of real threats from the predominant political classes at the time. Hence, such naive and spoiled kids were just giving the rather more seminal oi! bands, with exception of Screwdriver pf course, a rather bad name in the press. Though many skinheads who were fans of The 4 Skins also listened to Screwdriver, Their politics and, ethics, and aesthetics were not entirely the same. Both stood starkly apart on issues of violence as a means to agitate for change in the face of oppression or opposition.

    How can these people go about saying they are proud to be british when they are throwing nazi salutes and drawing swaztikas on the walls. English people united to fight that evil. England being a multicultural society is one of the things that makes it a great place to live. If you don't see that you're living in the past.
