Oi to you and Yours brother, 46 this year.. stay Rude Stay Roots and keep your Boots Stomping.. much respect to ya, from the other side of the world Southern California..
It is stupid to ever label Skinhead as racist without acknowledging that our subculture was born out Jamaican Rude boy culture, black soul music and Mod. There wasn't and still isn't room for boneheads, our entire ethos is born of black music and cultural roots and I'm seriously proud of that and being a real Trad Skinhead. 🇯🇲🎯🛵✊
I was kicking around UK in the early 80's and loved the vibe. Met Pauline, couple of the guys in the Clash, and plenty others on the scene. Everyone got along. The race divide just wasn't there, and coming from a fairly racist part of America, a very welcome change. Loved it. Best time of my life.
Pauline Black has always been a good-looking woman, but I find her so very appealing now she's grown older. And she really is the Queen of the 2-Tone era. With Rhoda as a very close runner up Queen of 2-Tone.
Madness, The Specials, Selecter, Bodysnatchers, Bad Manners, The Beat, Skinheads and Rudeboys oh and not forgetting the beautiful, sexy and loyal Skinhead Girls. Best days of my life 1979 - 1989. Still rude today and still stompin'. Sunderland Skins and 'riginal rude boys. One step beyond and still steppin' it.
I was a rocker as was my girlfriend, came home from work to a skinhead girlfriend. 4 skinheads clocked us at Walthamstow market, I looked at them and said don't ask I am so glad to be a 70s to 80s teenager.
Once a skin always a skin. Keep the faith lads and ladies. There's never a better feeling than walking down a street with 10 of her mates for a Saturday of fun. We looked good and felt even better especially if you've just had a trim.
Pauline Black maybe the Queen of the bastardized version of Ska of the 80s called Two Tone but she is not the original Queen, like mentioned Millie Small of the 60s is the original Queen.
I was a 1969 skinhead . Listening to this vid I see some inaccuracies . personally I never met a Rude Boy in England it seemed to be a Jamacian phenomenon during the sixties. Skinheads modified their clothing many times, the boots and braces phase was short lived because bouncers would not let us in dance halls and so the suede head was born wearing tonic mohair suits and monogrammed blazers and sheepskin coats were worn too. Tattoos and body piercing were not seen back then. By the 1970s the skinhead had morphed again to the Smoothie fashions which consisted of flare trousers and collar length hair. Only Mods wore Parkas. Mid 1970s came Punk Rock.
I hate revisionists who claim that skinhead subculture has been always racist but at the same time i hate people like you who believe skinhead is a black culture. Sorry no, skinhead movement is a subculture originated from an almost majority of proletarian white boys partly influenced by Jamaican immigrants. Society in the 60s was very racist and dancing ska-reggae-rocksteady in clubs side by side with the black guys was a first step against racism. The first skinheads were not racist but at the same time they weren't antiracist activists.
Skinhead culture appeared in Australia in the early 1970's(light on culture large on nasty) . Gang's of immigrant youth bashing usually out numbered Australian youth. As an immigrant youth myself I observed this behavior as pitiful. Today all the one-time hard men are empty shells or dead from drug's. This side of the skinhead culture in the video is new to me.
What is the name of this documentary? I can see it's BBC4 in the corner. It's frustrating getting these clips on RUclips and not being told what the full documentary is to look up the rest.
The original Selecter were only out for a year and a half but then they reformed in 1990 and have been going on since then but never created there original magic.
Did they tour around different pubs and clubs, in the latter end of the 20th century? I watched a band called Selecter, they were brilliant, but i thought it must be a tribute band, thinking surely the venue could not afford the real thing. Mebbe i was wrong.

part of the skinheads in the 70s.80s were racist, sure, but at the same time there were many antiracist-antifascit skins (and so many antiracist Oi bands).
well, we allways stood together with our skinhead mates, but i´ve never understand their self-destruction like haircuts. for me as a punkrocker, everytime experiencing different hairstyles, its unconceivable to cut my hairs like a cancer-treated-person or an inmate of the system. sorry, but thats my opinion. stay cleaan, h.m.
the skinhead culture has got absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with reggae or mod its a total insult all 3 different styles dress sense dancing & beat so please get your facts right..Christ Marley was an original rudeboy before turning Rasta FACT!!
please stop moaning about skinhead not being racist unfortunately YES WE ARE!! sorry to say but there are more racists amongst our ranks than every single fashion put together all we can do is get on with it & educate people about the true origins of ska/skinhead
