Useful content about note selection/economy. Many before me have found places around the 7th fret, to use open strings, and close by notes to get cool runs like Jerry Reed used to. You have a nice, clean sound, with tasty phrasing. Thanks for posting.
I've been playing guitar for 20 years and flatpicking bluegrass for like 3 years and I top out on most songs around 125 bpm. Certain people just have something special and this guy is one of those people
@@randeezydizzlebut i also think that those extra few hours helps a lot and not just practice I'm talking about efficient practice like he said about in this video.U dont need anything special to have this kind of speed picking just need lots of hours of efficient practice. U need something special in songwriting , writing pieces that people will love that creativity.
Really? Lots of the greats are. Tony Rice is probably the best example considering he's the greatest, he economy picked a lot. Whatever makes the solo smoothest to play.
@@alan4sure But Kevin said there is no technique. Anyway. while we are at it- what is the notes per minute speed limit for common people? I just want to understand where the relevance of such statements lies, i can't see any right now.
@@legalize.brokkoli if you can play common fiddle tunes at 120 I'd say you're about at or above limit for most pickers. I can do 120 on some, 110 on most all and of the ppl I have ever jammed with, most can't. Ppl who can play faster than that are usually making their living at it..I'm not.
You sir are a beast at picking any tips much appreciated
Well done, Sir! Very helpful!
Great video! Very sage advice my ultra- clean pic'n friend. Hats off to ya!
You're using an economy picking technique, which is an important distinction as most players will use and alternate picking technique.
Wicked pickin !!!!

Plays something I could never learn in a months worth a sundays: "Even though that was a little bit sloppy" 🙂
You're insane
Nice pickin! How long do you think it takes to play that fast?

Wow, you aren’t alternate picking. I don’t know of any flat pickers who are economy pickers. Pretty cool.

@@ethanschoof7989 I did not know Rice was one. Had to look it up.
Sorry, didn’t learn anything.
Sorry Aubrey. There's no technique. Some people are just wired up right. Some aren't. WONDERFUL guitar and wonderful playing !
It's called the firing speed of fast twitch muscles. Same as atheletes. Physical limitation that little can done about.
That's why practice means nothing and is not necessary at all. I guess.
@@legalize.brokkoli practice helps you play clean up to your physical speed limit. There are no shortcuts though. Including apps for phones Lol.

Couldn't you give this lesson without a Capo????.... why yes you could so WTF....
Because thats not how the song was originally played. Since you know so much, transpose it without the capo smartass
