In Season 2 he was essential in protecting Ragnar's family from Jarl Borg, and he was very helpful in making Ragnar king. Just saying, Ragnar could have at least made him a general or something. Or maybe help Rollo get his own Earldom. Imagine some rando Frankish King offering you everything you've wanted from your brother and more. He shouldn't have killed his own men sure, but I can understand why he went for Normandy, way better than any Earldom that Ragnar could have, but didn't offer Rollo. Plus we never would have Norman England without Rollo so that's another plus lol.

I think continuing season 4 would ease your pain at least a bit. I also was devastated after 4x15 and considered dropping the show, but I am really glad that I decided to finish the season. It helped me to come to terms with what happened and get some peace of mind. And the stories of Ragnar sons are very interesting.

No he is not, and was it was Valhalla. The door is clearly labeled in Norse symbols and everything else hints to Valhalla. The scene is supposed to be Ragnar realizing that the sins of his life out-way his goods and he might be prohibited access and let in limbo forever.

In any case, as soon as Ragnar wakes up from this vision, Ubbe goes to him: "Father, you're awake!" to which Ragnar replies *I'm alive. Unfortunately* So, if you look beyond Heaven and Valhalla, what Ragnar desires most in season 4 is to die. His life-long dream of a settlement in Wessex has failed, he has grown weary of leadership and he feels betrayed by everyone and uterly alone. The gates are closing in on him as a sign that it's not his time to go yet which could very well explain his anguish. It makes no sense to base your interpretation of this scene on conjecture while ignoring the unambiguous symbolism of it.
Rollo's ambition has always been greater than his honor.
