Twister is my go-to RPi OS. It's really the slickest and most polished OS I've come across for the RPi. These are great videos, Lee. These updates you present are almost like a public service for SBC geeks.
I'm trying it now. Why is it so slowwww. Everything takes several seconds to load. Even the file browser takes ages to pop up.

I know, right a much simpler time in the early days of PCs. It really was a great innovation at the time. Mainstream users had a graphical interface and no more need to use DOS commands (although I miss those although once in a blue moon I have a use for those. The Linux terminal is waaaaaaaaay better.

My first one was XP, with it i got bundle of games in a folder and i still think they where the best games ever. Spend days and days playing them.
Wine on Twister OS is managed with box86, 64bit OS dis going to require box86 to be installed in order to still run 32bit windows software. Windows 11 theme if I'm not mistaken uses the docklike taskbar which is going to need to be recompiled for 64bit OS in order for that aspect of the theme to install and run properly.
After installing this and not having the Win11 function and some other small issues I talked to the Discord twister OS forum and someone indicated that I'we could have installed the theme package as sudo.. Now I formatted the drive and I find this video after installing Pi OS.. Anyways.. Twister OS is a great distro.. One of the best I'we tried!
Can't wait till twister put it up officially on the page. Raspbian 64bit has improved video streaming heaps. Love watching my sports and movies on 64bit. Twister it tended to be laggy and screen tear,64bit I've noticed better performance
The screen tearing is one of the worst issues I've come across with this, I ended up buying a whole separate ssd to put retropie on to get rid of the issue when playing games

I've always wondered (or wished) that there was a way to customize Conky Rings for manual installs. I'd love to change everything from their color, position, and size.
Yes. It’s customizable. For Twister OS (and if you've installed on the UI), there are two files in the pi home directory that contain the configuration.

.conky_rings.lua
Take a look around and play around with some of the settings. As you can see, you can manipulate the colors, location, also what is displayed.

in this video were you using a SD card or external USB. I've having trouble getting 64-bit raspberry pi OS to work on a external USB SSD hard drive (that does not have its own power, it uses the Pi's USB for power) however the original 32-bit works just find on the same hard drives. I have tried 5 drives. Inland Professional 128GB SSD SATA III 6GB/s 2.5" TLC 3D NAND Internal Solid State Drive. thx :)
I was using usb 3 with ssd, the Pi doesn’t like some sata usb devices. Try usb 2.

Win 7 was as good as windows got. It was especially popular because Vista which predated it, was so shitty. With windows 8 they went shitty again and have never recovered.

How about an update on all the 64 but OSs ? Does it get noticably better playback if RUclips and other streaming online . Other noticable differences ?
After using it for a while I wasn’t pleased with the performance. Some of the theme’s didn’t work and it didn’t have all the TwisterOS functionality.

I am setting up anotrher PI and using Twister OS, i am using the llight theme, how can i get the task/meny bar from the top to the bnottom of the desktop, thanks for your advice.

In 32bit TwisterOS press the Windows key type display. Click on display and change resolution with the drop down menu. I’m not running 64bit TwisterOS. If it’s different try asking on the Discord.
I hope for the pi5. As a desktop, the pi400 is just too slow for me. No matter what os.
I've heard a few say this same thing. The Pi4 seems to be faster than the Pi400. It works for me but you may have other reasons and need faster speed. Let's hope RPi 5 improves speed. I haven't tried it yet because I run Twister but the latest RPi OS may soup things up a bit. Twister is built on RPi OS I think. Hope we get a speed boost with the nest chip.
Pi400 is just fine for me! Have you tried overclocking it?
shoulda got the 8gb
but does it work on the touch screen as when I last tried the start screen was oversized and no way to clear it and many other screens also had the same problems
Why does chromium close down when I click a youtube video? I had to install firefox and vivaldi to view youtube. I tried reinstalling chromium.
Pi Apps can install a different version of chromium that should work fine
@@leepspvideo I installed an older version and it plays youtube fine. Strange the version that came with twisteros ran youtube fine for months. Cheers.
Any information on if the official Twister OS is even being worked on? Seems like the project is dead. The website hasn't been updated since last year. There hasn't been an update in 8 months.

best supported sbc's by twister are rock pi 4b,vim3,radxa zero 1 + 2,those systems have 64bit versions
The project is definitely not dead. Main Dev(s) have been waiting for 64-bit Raspberry Pi OS to be promoted out of beta to have a stable foundation to start with. Plenty of different arm boards are supported and actively being developed with Armbian as well. So this UI is something that folks can mess around with in the meantime while we await an official release.

I have a ptoblrm with twister os p imager the version i have is 1,6i t said there was an update for it. 1.7 when i tried to update it it says *A package counld not ne found yjay allows the action to complete ?I have trouble doing the basic stuff let alone what you are doing in this video.

@@timcollins9800 I read your first question wrong. Try sudo apt remove rpi-imager the sudo apt install rpi-imager

@@leepspvideo It has been sorted it would not update the Pi imager so deleted it.And downloaded Etcher ,i prefer that to the PI one. anyway.

Pikiss still mostly 32bit I believe, but Jose has mentioned he’s working on 64bit. PiApps should only show the compatible 64bit Apps.
@@leepspvideo Ok cool. Good to hear 64bit stuff is coming. Kinda pointless to have a 64bit system when most of the apps we use is 32bit. One of the reasons why I've not moved completely over to 64bit on my Pi yet lol Thanks Lee. Hope you and the family are doing ok while all this windy weather is going on.

Twister OS is good but I can't help but think if Google released Chrome OS Flex for Pie, that would be faster.
I installed Chrome OS Flex on my Lenovo Ideapad 5 (amd 4700u with 8Gb ram and 500Gb NVME drive) and this thing boots up to log in screen in 5 seconds.
Linux is a more complete os.
Chromium is so similar to flex and already works great

i have a card flashed and ready to test.. i'll let you know if it works
worst case you can just pull all the theme and icon files out of root/usr/share/icons and root/usr/share/themes on a flashed card with twister os
also, display compositing is broken on pi 5 currently so you cant get and window transparency or shadow effects to work properly
