This makes me so sad. I wonder why it was abandoned for so long. I love Dean Martin. I wish I was obscenely wealthy just so I could buy up homes like his and preserve them. People don’t appreciate history.
I work on a lot of old homes and unfortunately it comes down to modern building codes. Plus any damage from it being abandoned. 1.5 million maybe cheap but renovations can get expensive. At least they are keeping the profile of the house. It's maddening to drive into an old neighborhood with beautiful old homes and see one or two modern monstrosities built where they just tore the old houses down.
It is extremely hard to get a structure in the NRHP (National Register of Historic Places), that this house cannot be saved by them. It does not matter who lived there, it is the architecture of the place that is determined by them to be unique to a certain place in time. Two HUGE thumbs up to the new owner for keeping the original look and architecture style!! Great looking house that can’t wait to be beautiful again. Thanks for the post.
At least they have kept the vintage style of the home. Most demos completely destroy all that is there, such as Jayne Mansfield’s pink palace. Thanks for the update!
This house, Dean's house, is located at 1123 N Via Monte, the dividing line between Los Palmas and Vista Las Palmas. Our house is at N Via Norte and W Vista Chino, across the street from the Jack Benny house. We've been following the refit and are happy to see progress on what will be a sensitive renovation of the building. If you observe the developments in the area, you'll know the city is very careful about what they allow. The newly re-imagined house will be much closer to the original than the neglected and sad version shown in your previous video. Not far from Dean's house is the Elvis honeymoon house. That entire cul-de-sac has been rebuilt, with the houses on either side of the honeymoon house having been razed. It's not clear if the new owner of the honeymoon house intends to incorporate that land into theirs, making it a much grander estate.
Thank you for this perspective. A lot of folks are lamenting it being torn down to the studs, when it’s clearly being renovated with a great deal of care. It could’ve been totally razed instead as with countless landmarks just down the road in LA. Excited to see how this turns out!
It's nice that they're not totally knocking it down, it has good bones I guess. Mid-century modern. I can't wait to see it when it's finally done. Please keep us updated!

Born and raised in Beverly Hills. I was friends with Deans son Dino... great guy and nice family. That was a fun time to be a kid and to grow up with great memories as well.
My girlfriend and I visited Palm Springs about 6 years ago,....and did go to the Dean Martin house when it looked like it did in your 2021 video. At that time the side gate was open and we spent a few minutes taking pictures of the pool area,...as well as taking pictures from the front of the house looking in. It was amazing to us how modest and small of a home it was. Once the house has been almost completely ''gutted'' I wouldn't have any interest in seeing it now,.....but that is just me.

Due to the extreme heat and being vacant so long, termites probably set in. There are also issues with asbestos with older homes (think cottage cheese ceilings). The new owner has deep pockets.
@@kallegrabowski8972 I looked it up on the tax rolls. Dean's second wife, Jeanne Martin, got it in their 1973 divorce. When she died in 2016, it remained in her trust until it was sold recently. I think they hung onto it because it really wasn't costing any money to retain, other than taxes.
Good to know they're keeping the exterior basically the same. It's a distinctive, modernist design that would be worth preserving even without the connection to Dean Martin. Thanks for taking the time to update us Scott.
My heart breaks. I loved that house and if I lived out west, I would have totally bought it. Thank you for the update and I look forward to seeing what the final product will look like.
Great upload Scott. Thank you! I wish they would leave these treasured homes to be. I love how you show the before and after of these homes. It's fascinating, yet very sad.
This is so sad really. I would like to see more of old Hollywood preserved. I appreciate your tour of the property in 2021..Once it's gone it's truly gone. Thank you for all you do. Please do more videos!!🙂❣️
Good job Michaels! I'm glad the integrity of the home as far as the frame of it goes, remains. The new owners obviously had no intention of erasing every bit of Dean's memory from the place and that is what they used to call "Cool"!
I'm glad they are rehabbing the house and keeping the exterior vibe. Mid-century Modern is my favorite style of house! ❤ The only thing that makes me sad is that it was never maintained to begin with! RIP Mr. Martin 🎉
I can't believe it's been three years since you posted the full walk around video. I also can't believe that it sold for so little. That seems super super cheap for that area. Thanks for the update on this. I hope to see it when restoration is complete.
Very cool. Thanks for posting. I am glad that it looks like they are keeping the basic shape of the house and just redoing the interior of it. It is one of those mid-century home designs which can command quite a bit of money. I'm a little surprised that one or more of the kids didn't decide to keep it. Would have been a great place to hold family reunions. I can just imagine the parties that took place out on that deck area and in the pool.
I really wish they would take these old celebrity homes and turn them into Museums instead I think that would have been a fun way for people to enjoy and see 😢
So poignant. The tile around the top of the pool was neat, and so were the splash sound effects. 😊 At least the bones of the house are still there. Thanks Scott 🌞🌴🥃🍹🍸
Aw thanks for the update and tour. What is the wonderful xylophone music? Really got a feeling of being there! Love the boulders. The ones in the side yard would be so perfect for laying sweaters out to dry. And you know kids and cats would love climbing on them. We love your videos. Thanks, Scott
@kenpalmer985 It's happening all over S. California, total disregard for the historic element of vintage homes & who lived there- Marilyn Monrow's last home being one. Hoping the buyer may decide to keep the structural integrity of Dean's home close to original.
After being abandoned for years, it was probably termite infested and there may have been damage from the elements. Palm Springs had terrible flooding a couple of winters ago.
I can´t believe what i see here. Dean was one of the greatest Entertaiers in The U.S. and a World Star. I love him. Why could be that happened ? Is he so much forgotten in your Country? I be shocked. My prayers are for Mr. Dean Martin. He has made so many people around the world happy with his songs, films and shows. May the house and property be restored to their former glory. Kind regards from (East) Germany.
Dean's stylish yet comfortable Palm Springs get away house! I can see him pulling up in the driveway in a big 68 convertible! If they capture some of the look and feel of the original house in the renovation, it would be cool! I am glad you got to document the whole outside in 2021!
I'm glad they're keeping the original exterior appearance of the home. The unique look and feel of Palm Springs must be preserved. Bobby T is a friend of mine, and we visited the Margaritaville Resort Palm Springs on it's opening weekend in 2020. I'm so glad they kept the original bones and layout of the legendary Riviera Hotel rather than making a bunch of design changes. Looking forward to seeing how the Dean Martin home turns out. Good video. Thanks!
I hope they preserve the current exterior look of this beautiful butterfly bungalow, sad that the interior is gutted perhaps they will keep the mid century vibe it once had
Sad ending but we must realize everything in life eventually ends. Dean has such a spectacular life compared to almost everyone. Great singer one of my favorites yet in 2024. May God rest his soul.
Hmm, interesting. Either they do demolitions down there differently than in Canada ( where they take in a front end loader type of machine that literally tears it down, once anything valuable is removed, like the copper pipes, wiring, etc. ), or that house is being very carefully dismantled to be moved and re-constructed, perhaps, and not just renovated ? It would be expensive, but there's LOTS of 'money' out there that could /would do it ! Be interesting to see what happens next ! Great video, Scott. Thanks for keeping us posted. (Edit : I posted this comment before I got to the end of the video. But it will be interesting to see what happens !)
Since it has been stripped to the bones, perhaps rebuilding on this, with the 2 x 6 bones added is a goal. Considering that asbestos, old wiring and better plumbing are huge concerns, it would be lovely to see a healthy version of the design be able to come to life.
Hi Scott. So it looks like it’s being restored possibly and not demolished? I’m glad.. Thanks so much for the great video, Scott. Please keep up the great work!🥰 PS I could just imagine the sounds of ice cubes clinking in glasses with martinis as I watched your video of the house done back in February of 2021!
as long as they keep at least 10% of the original structure it is considered a remodel under California law. This is why they just gutted it instead of a complete demo. It would be cheaper in the long run.
I was involved in the renovation of Bing Crosby house in the late 90s,was ashamed of destroying such a beautiful place, but kept plenty of keepsakes from the old house, hardware, knobs from cabinets, even a square of carpet with his piano leg impeded In it!!
I love this video you got to walk right up to it, amazing. Your the only one doing this . Notice how he didn't need a fence around it and it's not an ugly huge mansion it shows how he was a regular person or maybe he thought he was. But he was special what a huge star and a great stand up comedian!! One of a kind for sure. God Bless Deno,!! Thxanx
I am sure in its day that house was a show piece with all of the latest "modern" amenities and the latest 60's furniture! Fiberglass glass curtains and all! I would have loved to have seen it then! Thank you for sharing the progress of this home. I hope it is restored to the T!
When you think of it, the important thing is that the structure is eing saved. Realistically, the house needs to be safe and usable. When a house is left unused, everything deteriorates esp. Plumbing and electrical, but also mold. So some people are advised by the architect or builder to start from scratch, kind of like not putting a new patch of cloth on a rotting fabric. But it seems the bones on this house were good (probably due to the dry climate).
I suspect there were issues with the house that required it to be gutted. It might have been loaded with asbestos, which could be in the floors, walls, and ceilings. Perhaps Dino wanted a home that was as “fireproof” as practical. It will be interesting to see how the house is rebuilt… if it stays true to original style or is a completely modern in style. Would love to see an update video. I suspect new walls will be put up soon to keep the interior from being exposed too long.
I met Bobby Trendy years ago at open mic night at the Gypsy Den coffee house in downtown Santa Ana. I used to play guitar there and he did too. The peak was about 2009-2010 when all the talented local musicians would stop by and play a song or two. He seemed to be a really nice guy.
Nice to see that they are going to build around the skeleton of the building. Like Dean would say "it's amore!" Love your videos, Scott, please keep up the great work. Great summer viewing.
Thank you for updating us all Scott on Dean's house. It would have been something to live in the neighborhood when all the actors & entertainers of that era lived there
I have the "original postcard", was so proud to be able to get this memory when I visited PS from Germany. Happy to hear, that the outer walls will remain in the original style. Many thanks for sharing, missing the "good old times" and DINO 😊❤.
Last time I drove down to Palm Springs, I drove around that neighborhood, and Dean's house was very rundown and just beyond saving I thought, so anxious to see this. I know it's going to look outstanding because it's Palm Springs. Enjoyed the video thank you.
We visited this location in November, 2021. It was abandoned, run down, and no fence surrounding the property. I loved Dean Martin!!! I am so glad to learn someone is renovating his house instead of tearing it down.

Notice how he didn't need a fence around it and it's not an ugly huge mansion it shows how he was a regular person or maybe he thought he was. But he was special what a huge star and a great stand up comedian!! One of a kind for sure. God Bless Deno,!! Thxanx
A rather modest home actually.
7:12 haha Taking a “splash” in Dean’s pool was pretty cool!
At least they didn't totally remove it. It will be interesting to see afterwards.
I am sure in its day that house was a show piece with all of the latest "modern" amenities and the latest 60's furniture! Fiberglass glass curtains and all! I would have loved to have seen it then! Thank you for sharing the progress of this home. I hope it is restored to the T!
Dean Martin King of cool 😎
When you think of it, the important thing is that the structure is eing saved. Realistically, the house needs to be safe and usable. When a house is left unused, everything deteriorates esp. Plumbing and electrical, but also mold. So some people are advised by the architect or builder to start from scratch, kind of like not putting a new patch of cloth on a rotting fabric. But it seems the bones on this house were good (probably due to the dry climate).
Love to see a great architect skilled in mid century give this place some love and an update.
Wish we could see what it looked like when he bought it. Bet it was gorgeous!
Thank you for doing these videos and sharing them with us. Loved Dean Martin.
That’s a pretty humble home for somebody of his stature but that’s who he was he was a very humble human being
Thk you so much, Scott and Troy!!
That house has a beautiful view!
I love dean Martin he was all class Gentleman thankyou for showing his home and watching fro Australia 🇦🇺
Thanks for the video and story!❤
