In the Flagstaff newspaper, the Arizona Daily Sun, a few years ago there was a "75 years ago today" feature about a man who was recovering from smallpox in downtown Flagstaff. He sat up in his cot and was struck (and killed) by lightning.
[Quran 51:44-45] But they defied the command of their Lord, so the lightning struck them as they looked on. They could not rise up, nor could they find help. Mentioned 1400 years ago.
Yeah, but those people who survive don't just walk away...they get seriously f*cked up, with 2nd and 3rd degree burns and lingering health problems that can last for months or even years afterward.
I'm absolutely terrified of thunder and lightning and it gives me really bad anxiety mainly being caught in one and getting strucked by lightning. It's so bad for me that I will constantly check the weather many times a day for any bad weather and I feel anxious the whole day preparing for it come. Even when it's just heavy rain or I see it in the distance I will have a bad panic attack terrified of getting hit at any moment even when I'm trying to get indoors as fast as I can. I will never understand how people don't take it seriously, yes it's rare but it's still dangerous and you should still be careful. My own family thinks I'm crazy whenever i have a panic attack over thunderstorms and they think it's not dangerous when it literally is.
I’m literally the opposite of you, I love thunderstorms too much for my own good. I take walks in the rain while there’s a thunderstorm for a bit just because of the petrichor smell and how pretty the lightning looks going across the sky. It’s a short walk though because obviously it isn’t safe, like 20-30 minutes. It’s a guilty pleasure, I know I shouldn’t do it but I can’t help it.
I used to hold such a fear, but I recently got over it. Then got to witness the result of what happens when a direct hit strikes a living being. I learned that all these lightning strike videos are false. Nobody survives a direct hit. They just explode. But at least it's quick... and fairly rare... cows seem to suffer a lot from it, but hot damn that's a little brutal, but at least nobody would feel a thing since it happens instantaneously.
This video explains what happened to me when I was hit by lightening. I was stood just inside an open fronted farm building in the UK holding a large 5 foot long crowbar in a heavy thunderstorm. The lightening hit me through the open side of the building but earthed through the crowbar that was luckily touching the floor. I remember the explosion and being thrown across the building and waking up slumped against a wall with my head bleeding and the crowbar about 20 feet away. This video explains the explosion and why I went unconscious for some time. I was unharmed on the day but have been basically unwell for a large part of my life with autoimmune problems. It makes me wonder if that had any causative effect.
This video didn't go into much of my injuries. Direct struck multiple times in quick succession. Internal scaring/tracking, Motor movement inaccuracies, sensory issues, Hormonal/chemical regulation imbalance, additional complications added to existing shrapnel wounds, and other injuries, and the more usual entrance and exit wounds.
@@gutembergvieira31 My burns are mostly internal. There's entrance and exit wounds, but in between are like rods of melted tissue. When I get an x-ray you see paths of lighter color where the denser scar tissue is.

Another tip: If your hair starts sticking up and you feel a metallic taste, get down to the ditch immediately as it is a sign lightning will strike you.
My two cousins, brother and I were playing in the rain many years ago and lightning struck a tree in the back yard near us. e were running in the direction towards the tree when it happened. I was a bit behind the three of them but they all stopped and asked if i felt something brush across me. I hadn't noticed anything but we definitely got struck by some of the lightning branching off of the initial bolt. We went inside a few minutes after because everyone was shook and almost immediately all of our heads, eyes and ears started hurting and our ears were ringing. Even still i'm extremely fascinated by such a beautiful creation of God. Nothing is more mesmerizing than watching nature dance to the tune of thunder with such beautiful strides.
My dad's friend years ago was killed during a thunderstorm when he was inside his house taking a shower..... the lightning struck the house and traveled through the pipes to the shower, killing him instantly.
@@Honey-ir8wo when i was hit it just felt real hot on the hand/arm that was holding a metal umbrella then you go into shock that you still breathing but wtf was that shit lightning run ...shit more lightning run back to ...where was i stood ???? lightning dont strike same spot twice panic it was not fun and no super powers unless you count being able to electrocute shopping carts or cars lol (bad static shocks from anything i touch)
It does! I had a hell of an adrenaline rush for over an hour after I was secondarily struck a few weeks ago! I called my mom but she was too busy cry-laughing at me telling her about it 👁️👄👁️ Scary shit tho
It was very true for me because when reality faded back in after the loud bang and bright light, i was still on my bicycle going 50mph/80kmh downhill. That's why i'm here, trying to figure out how i didn't even get touched
i was almost struck by lightning as a kid. i remember being totally blinded by it seeing nothing but bright white for a few seconds and hearing the buzzing sound of electricity. not long after i started needing to wear glasses. i know it could just be total coincidence but after hearing 1:44 it makes me wonder if that experience could have contributed to my vision deteriorating
I can vouch for that, people forget that lightning, especially when it's right in front of someone striking down. THAT, is blinding. Not to mention deafening hearing the full volume at that close of range.
for me it was just a split second of the bright light. Before that, i registered a loud bang. The crazy thing is what happens after, when reality fades back in. I was on a bicycle going 55mph/80kmh. I got a little short sighted since but I think that might be due to excessive screen time.
I know we don't get real superpowers from lightning strikes, but I'm interested in the stories of people who get a "reset" and gain either some sort of savant ability or a fix for some earlier defect/damage. Such amazing information.
Well, a tree got struck about 7 meters away from me and I got lightly electrocuted and now I can just feel when storms are coming. It's a cool ability until the storms there and you're in physical pain and you feel like your head is gonna pop
There are few cases where people who were born blind or deaf have gotten their sight/hearing back after being struck by lightning. Of course they also suffered other (minor) injuries... And these cases (where lightning strike was a positive) are far fewer compared to people suffering only injuries
I was struck 17 years ago. When I was 13. Scared the crap put of me. Burnt the hair on my arm (where it hit me), but I was totally fine all I remember is a extremely bright flash and my arm stinging. My dad found it hard to believe, buy my burnt arm hair was the proof. BTW, I was completely fine. Just no hair on my arm until it grew back.
Did you also hear a loud bang like a grenade? The lightning did nothing to me so noone is ever going to believe me, but anyway in my memory i registered the bang first and then immediately everything was white and then reality faded back in. I was going downhill very fast on my bicycle which is probably why i got struck but the speed probably also made me evade any damage
Well.. just a small tip: you can't run from a lightning which already chose it's next victim. Standing outside, in an unprotected environment doesn't matter what you are carrying, where or on what you are standing, or where you find yourself at a sea base level, your chances of being struck are equal and should worry you. Being outside is always a bad spot, no matter where you are finding yourself, whether you have your cellphone at you or anything you can think of. The best bet you have is to always be prepared and never adventure outside while a storm is nearby.
Can confirm about the shockwave at 30 feet. I was in my barracks room in the military during a heavy thunderstorm. there was a tree right outside and since there was an overhang outside my door, I often had the door open during storms. The bolt struck the tree outside, knocked me from my chair and my laptop off the desk, cracked the window, and I was blinded and deafened for a solid 30 seconds. I was unharmed otherwise thankfully, but I just remember it as being pretty damn cool. Thankfully my laptop survived.
Thank you for this! Last night I was getting ready to take the garbage down to the road because the garbage trucks run tomorrow, as I was walking down my driveway a huge lightning strike struck the ground right in front of my eyes and I would say was only about 10 ft away from me, all I saw was bright white as if I was blind but instead of seeing all black it was all white! and heard a big loud bang it sounded like a bomb went off! And it was also very windy after that happened to me in the area. I literally dropped everything that was in my hand and ran back into the house and my mom was getting to run outside because she heard me screaming from outside I ran in a hugged my mom and just starting crying in front of her telling her what happened and she said she heard everything it was sooo loud! It was so traumatizing to me just knowing that I was just potentially 10 ft away from losing my life last night 😰
I'm here because I just saw a news about a Peruvian footballer died instantly because he was struck by lightning when he played football.. it was a direct shot.
Yes, changes in personality, difficulties focusing, motor problems ... Lightnings physically grill the brain, vaporising liquid in it, if you get hit in the wrong place, so pretty much anything that can happen from a brain haemorrhage can happen from a lightning strike too. Lightnings are not a thing to trifle with.
The shockwave part can definitely knock you down when I was 8 I went outside to get something and lighting struck a bench about 10 feet away and it knocked my down pretty damn hard
I was riding a bike near a golf course with orchard, I got caught by a thunderstorm and I saw lightning rods on the side and front, about 200 meters away, I got so scared that I might get hit, and then I looked up the sky and saw what appeared to be an umbrella of electrical pulses, like branches of a tree. Fortunately the lightnings did not hit me, kind of 5 meters above my head, but I got to say, that was both beautiful and awesome and scary all at the same time.
For all survivor of lightning strike, they'll have a permanent strike mark looks like a tree's root on their body forever. If lightning gets through you : Crispy outside, tender inside
There is one big mistake @2:58-when thunderstorm begins you should NEVER RUN! More safely is just to fully lay down (better on chest) to ground and wait till the thunderstom ends! Running increases risk of getting hit by lightning!

I always thought cars were safe in a storm, but that isn’t always the case. Last summer it began storming while I was surfing in nj. Got to the car and had one hand on the inside of the trunk. Huge white flash happens and I feel my whole arm and chest shock real hot. I relaxed for a bit and enjoyed an ice cream. I even surfed again when the storm passed. But the car seemed to act as a conductor. Not only that, the car DIED in the middle of the highway on the ride home. Hyundai Elantra 2017, computer shut, breaks cut out and so did the gas. Thankfully we made it to the should safely using the E brake. THE CAR AINT AS SAFE AS YOU THINK.
I almost got struck by lightning when I was a teenager, I was walking to my grandparents house during a severe thunderstorm, the bolt of lightning was 2 inches from my head, the lightning was so loud I got a terrible headache. I was so lucky.
My family I and I got stuck on a river when floating..we checked the forecast and it was suppose to be sunny.. a storm developed overhead very quickly..In an instant the wind picked up and we knew it was time to get out. Then, the clouds moved in and it started to rain..then we heard the tornado siren going off.....all whilst in a gosh darn river! Luckily we were near a park and ran to a pavilion..we had to get out of the water due to all the lightning. There were tons of us on the river that day. We got lucky
Holy shit, good thing I left my window closed. A lightning bolt almost struck my window, it was litteraly one of the most terrifying experiences of my life. It was pretty cool though, I gotta admit.

Nothing is more mesmerizing than watching nature dance to the tune of thunder with such beautiful strides.
is there any other injuries?
It's not amazing, it's scary
My dad's friend years ago was killed during a thunderstorm when he was inside his house taking a shower..... the lightning struck the house and traveled through the pipes to the shower, killing him instantly.
Sadly, when I was hit, I didn’t turn into the flash lmao. Had some pretty dope lichtenberg figures tho!

When I was young, I used to think that being struck by lighting would make you feel “alive”
It does! I had a hell of an adrenaline rush for over an hour after I was secondarily struck a few weeks ago! I called my mom but she was too busy cry-laughing at me telling her about it
👁️👄👁️ Scary shit tho

It was very true for me because when reality faded back in after the loud bang and bright light, i was still on my bicycle going 50mph/80kmh downhill. That's why i'm here, trying to figure out how i didn't even get touched
@@simplyjay0748for me it didn't hurt whatsoever
i was almost struck by lightning as a kid. i remember being totally blinded by it seeing nothing but bright white for a few seconds and hearing the buzzing sound of electricity. not long after i started needing to wear glasses. i know it could just be total coincidence but after hearing 1:44 it makes me wonder if that experience could have contributed to my vision deteriorating
“how do I make sure I’m not that guy” right 😂😂
I know we don't get real superpowers from lightning strikes, but I'm interested in the stories of people who get a "reset" and gain either some sort of savant ability or a fix for some earlier defect/damage.

My friend is dead. He was at Digha sea beach last week, suddenly he struck by a lightning and dead on spot.
I'm so sorry, that must have been terrible. Love 💖💞

The best bet you have is to always be prepared and never adventure outside while a storm is nearby.
what you wrote is true!
talk about *small* tips
Mohamed Hanafy It is, indeed, a small tip.
JamesP - Yes, you can still consider it a small one. How about not taking everything literally all the time?
I think I should vigorously exercise and run a lot outside while the weather forecast tells that there will be thunderstorms for 2 days straight

I heard a lot of people struggle with depression after getting hit by lightning, like it does something to your brains. Anybody heard this too?
Yes, changes in personality, difficulties focusing, motor problems ... Lightnings physically grill the brain, vaporising liquid in it, if you get hit in the wrong place, so pretty much anything that can happen from a brain haemorrhage can happen from a lightning strike too. Lightnings are not a thing to trifle with.
A 9 year old boy jordan banks here in the UK died after been struck by lightning last week devastating shocked the whole country 💔💔💔😭😭

There is one big mistake @2:58-when thunderstorm begins you should NEVER RUN! More safely is just to fully lay down (better on chest) to ground and wait till the thunderstom ends! Running increases risk of getting hit by lightning!
Fully laying down is bad cause it forces electricity to go threw your whole body it’s better to crouch on your tip toes

Nice video! I love how educational it is.
I almost got struck by lightning when I was a teenager, I was walking to my grandparents house during a severe thunderstorm, the bolt of lightning was 2 inches from my head, the lightning was so loud I got a terrible headache. I was so lucky.

5 TIMES HOTTER THAN THE SUNS SURFACE!?
My family I and I got stuck on a river when floating..we checked the forecast and it was suppose to be sunny.. a storm developed overhead very quickly..In an instant the wind picked up and we knew it was time to get out. Then, the clouds moved in and it started to rain..then we heard the tornado siren going off.....all whilst in a gosh darn river! Luckily we were near a park and ran to a pavilion..we had to get out of the water due to all the lightning. There were tons of us on the river that day. We got lucky
So you didn’t get struck, tf are you saying
woah, that was scary
So you're saying I won't get super human speeds and the ability to run at the speed of light??
Holy shit, good thing I left my window closed. A lightning bolt almost struck my window, it was litteraly one of the most terrifying experiences of my life. It was pretty cool though, I gotta admit.
