The Rodney Hampton Tribute

- Over the last few months, I have been making highlight videos of Giants who were members of the 1986 and 1990 Super Bowl Championship teams. These are not your Taylors, Simms, Bavaros of the world who got all the headlines, but rather guys who each did their job and played their own role in each of the two seasons that ended in glory. This is the Rodney Hampton tribute. I hope you enjoy.
I always enjoyed watching Rodney play. He was a very impressive power back. Way too underrated in my opinion.
Rod-ney! Rod-ney! Rod-ney!
One of my all-time favorites. Rodney was a great north n south runner, always got positive yards running between the tackles. Great back. 👍
Its the ONE THING that the NEW YORK FOOTBALL GIANTS have YET! to do since RODNEY HAMPTON RETIRED. And that is FIND OR HAVE CONSISTENCY at the RUNNIN BACK position. He did it for 7 years✊🏾💪🏾😎💯
Tiki Barber was their franchise back from 2000 to 2006. Seven years, 6 1,000 yard seasons (Hampton only had 5), and he broke Hampton's franchise records. Saquon Barkley was the franchise back for six years. Between Barber and he, the running back committee of Brandon Jacobs, Ahmad Bradshaw, Derrick Ward, Ruben Droughns, and DJ Ware produced enough offense to win two Super Bowls, which is two more than Hampton suited up for. And after a couple of years in the wilderness, thanks in large part, ironically, to pinning their hopes on another RB #1 draft pick, David Wilson, they got Rashad Jennings and then Wayne Gallman. The problem during their time with the Giants was the awful offensive line, which had been starting to fall apart in the last Super Bowl year, but the moronic, over the hill GM they hired decided to try fixing the problem by drafting Barkley with the second pick in the draft.
The Giants have always had good running backs. When the offensive line is good, so too is their running game, regardless of where they get the backs. When it's not, they struggle. But for some reason, they never seem to learn this lesson and keep spending first round picks on running backs, only one of whom actually played for them in a Super Bowl, which they lost. Rodney Hampton was the only first round pick to earn a ring with the Giants, and he missed the Super Bowl with an injury. Butch Woolfolk, George Adams, Jarrod Bunch, Tyrone Wheatley, Ron Dayne, David Wilson, Saquon Barkley never won a championship with NY. Meanwhile, late round picks like Joe Morris, Dave Meggett, Jacobs and Bradshaw, plus Otis Anderson, an over-the-hill Cardinals star, got the job done.
I loved watching Hampton as a kid, but the fact is, a great running back is not all that much use, compared to an O-line and a strong defense.
He should be in the Giants Ring of Honor!!!!
Loved Rodney. But can we say a word about those lead blocks from Carthon? Dude was a masher too.
Big, strong & fast probably the most underrated back in Giant history. The man could play!
The most physical running back the Giants ever had,Love the Guy,Big Blue forever
Growing up in the 90's as a Giants fan he was the only real offensive weapon that they had that they could consistently count on to perform. When he was in the game you knew teams were focused on stopping him.
It was such a shame they didn't keep Hostetler, Dave Brown would have made a fine backup
If they had Hostetler in those years, they would have had a more well rounded offense
Bart Oates, Jumbo Elliot and William Roberts as well
My first fave player was LT as a gmen fan starting in 1990, and Rodney Hampton was my next fave player after LT retired at the end of 1993 season. Rodney Hampton created the word workhorse.
Rodney was one great power back and always played hard.
I miss those days football giants had a lot of good talent players
Rodney Hampton is my favorite Giants running back. I remember his first rookie preseason game where he ran for 125 yds, and he just kept on ticking from there. Great power, nothing but legs and hips, finds the whole blasts through it.
My favorite back as a kid .
Kashmere 's G.O.A.T RB. Northside raised.💯👑
Most underrated giant of all time!
This is cool old giant I miss late 80 s early 90 s giant football
So much fun those giant teams its sad what the giants have become nowadays so depressing now
I’d go to war with Hampton. One of my favorites. I just loved the way he ran.
Great vision, power, stiff arm, quick feet, always ran hard between the tackles, underrated! , Henry today reminds me a bit of Hampton. Played on low ranked offenses entire career during a time when GB DALLAS and SF dominated the NFC. True workhorse back
He had Great Vision
Hampton is my favourite Giants running back of all time. His career was cut way short by injury, and it is sad that he could not participate deep in the playoffs games against San Francisco and the Super Bowl. He was as gifted as any RB we have ave seen. His very first touch in his first exhibition game he took the ball long distance to the house. My favourite game of his was against the Vikings, where I believe he carried the ball about 40 times to carry the offence on his back. He was an absolute monster who could catch off the backfield and pass block. I have no doubt that he would have made it to Canton if he had stayed healthy. Fans should definitely look up and watch that Minnesota game in Giants stadium.
They should have kept Oates, Elliot, Roberts, Hostetler, Ingram, McCaffery and kept that 1990 team together
I remember he always had over 100 yards rushing a game
He's still my all time fav giant..great character
Nice video. Now you should make a video of Pepper Johnson, Carl Banks, and personal favorite of mine, who is so underappreciated by Giants fans, Jessie Armstead. Armstead was a beast from 97 to 01.
Some legendary defenders getting beat on here
Hamp was SWEET!
Sweet Feet. He was a damn good DAWG!
I just heard his rap song “Gameday”.
It’s a great track 🏈
The early 90s giants had some good offense players maggiet Hampton Baker those were the days
Kashmere Rams
Yo we’re at the cowboys game right now he’s eating dinner with us bro wtffffff😂
I really feel Hampton was up there with the best backs like emmitt. How would Rodney Hampton have looked if it was him and not emmitt running behind that monster line?
What if the Giants just kept Jeff Hostetler, Jumbo Elliot, William Roberts, Bart Oates, Mark Bavaro, Mark Ingram and Ed McCaffery
The early-mid 90s Giants could have made another run if they kept that team together
Pepper Johnson, Carl Banks, Steve DeOssie, Leonard Marshall, Erik Howard
#27 Hambone This Kenny boo....
I 👀 ya
Hambone is what I called him too
And NO TIKI BARBER WASN'T IT! He FUMBLED to much in the beginning 🤷🏾♂️
RODNEY HAMPTON 😅 G MEN 💪😂
Joe Morris ronday Hampton bardon Jacob s best running backs giants ever had
Rodney used to juke!!
Poor Rodney was ran ragged by these Giant teams because they had no other offensive weapons
Imagine if the Giants kept Hostetler
93 was a great year for Simms (his best statistically). Would have been nice to keep Hoss who had a great year with the Raiders in ‘94 (Pro Bowl). Giants had Kent Graham and Dave Brown and wanted to see what they had with them.
its between tiki an Hampton...i was also a wheatley fan
Wheatley sucked
What about Ron Johnson?
Hampton was the only offensive weapon the giants had for a number of years. Shame he had to play with the likes of dave brown and danny kennel yuck
Agree to a point. We also had Calloway, who was decent, but again, no QB.
@@andrewhogan6533 Dave brown was a beast 🙌🏽😂
