The sets are almost 40 years old now. Impressive how they still hold up, even after all these visitors and standing outside in the hot and cold weather.
This is a well put together clip Argunners Magazine and to Conrad Roxx. And thank you also for showing us the finer details of how Das Boot was made and the luck of finding authentic U-Boat parts among other odds and ends.
I found the orginal 8.5 x 11 book, about an inch thick that has photos of all of the sets, the story of production, etc.--some of which appear on a narrative after the Director's Cut. I don't know how rare the book is, but there's no question that the interior of the sub was somewhat enlarged to allow camera work. Still, it is impressive given how much of a real Type 7-C was used. This also was originally a 6-part German TV serial--I found the tapes and an international VHS player retired from a Hollywood studio. The entire film is astounding--6 one hour episodes!
They use the original blueprints this is the closest that thing to a WW2 type 7c, actually there is a true 7c preserved but the interior was modified after the war by the Norway navy

Great video. I only wish there had been videos instead of slides. much more useful.
thanks bro,,,for several years, i thought it was shot in real submarine....
Because the sets were built as a facsimile of the real submarine. Everything is an exact replica of the real one.
