  • i9 Voice Changer is an inexpensive option with a lot of uses at around $25. In this video we show how to connect to your gaming console / gaming system. I connect the i9 to a PS4 in this example.

    MY REVIEW AND INSIGHTS:
    This voice changer actually works fairly well. And should be a core go-to for inexpensive voice changing capabilities for costume integration, gaming, etc.
    They designed it to integrate with various devices, including your phone, Xbox, PlayStation etc.
    It’s Far superior to the Halloween store voice changers. Any of those I’ve tried had limited features, and were mostly indecipherable.
    ------
    HOW TO CONNECT DEVICES:
    - TO OUTPUT TO A PHONE OR GAME SYSTEM:
    - FOR A 3.5MM HEADSET (headphones + mic combo) - plug into the “Headset” port on bottom; & plug your Phone, game console, or other 2 way devices into “Live1” or “Live2” ports on top using the i9 provided TRRS 3.5mm cable. This allows you to hear your changed voice. (Alternatively you can plug into Mic & Headset ports for the same experience, OR plug into Mic and Live2 - though via live2 you will NOT hear your changed voice).
    - FOR A USB HEADSET - use a USB to 3.5mm converter - if your converter splits into mic and headphones then you’ll also need a male mic and male headphones to a single TRRS 3.mm male converter cable.
    - note for iPhones/iPads - you’ll need an iPhone to 3.5mm female converter to connect to your 3.5mm TRRS line that goes into the “Live” port.
    -- FOR USB OR WIRELESS - Possible Alternative - (I've not tried it myself) You 'should' be able to use a USB hub or Docking Station with 3.5mm port - these must be connected to a different computer (not your destination device like PS4 or Gaming PC) so it can do the any necessary conversion. You "Might" be able to use a USB powered Hub with Built-in soundcard without a PC, but I'm not sure on that. Alternatively you could a Digital to Analog Converter if you can find one that accepts USB Audio as an input.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    - TO OUTPUT TO AN AMPLIFIER/SPEAKER: A dedicated Mic goes in the mic port on top & an amplified speaker goes into “headset” port on bottom. For the speaker you must use a TRRS cable - those are the types if cables that came with the i9 (3 plastic separators & 4 metal sections on the 3.5 mm tip).

    First off I'm a huge fan man I've sent your videos to so many people and really appreciate everything you do!! Quick question though. Do you have to have a splitter?

    • @creative-stuff
      @creative-stuff  5 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks @ChiefBangarang . I appreciate the feedback.
      So in my case, I had the headset that was already split into Mic / headphones on short leads, so I had to use a splitter to merge the signals so I could both pass the mic signal to the 3.5mm, as well as receive back the audio signal to my headset. HOWEVER - IF you have 2 separate plugs as coming from your headset you AND the wires are long enough - you can plug mic into 'mic' and headphones into 'headset' WITHOUT needing a splitter to merge them. (You'll get the same audio experience of hearing your own voice changed.) Alternatively you could plug mic into 'mic' and headphones into 'live2', however you will NOT hear your own voice (meaning you won't know what you actually sound like; though this could be helpful if you're confident it's setup right and you dont want to hear your 'changed' voice.)
      Of course if you only have a single 3.5mm out of your headset rather than 2 separate plugs, then you do NOT need a splitter - just plug into 'headset'.
      What does NOT work: You cannot get audio from the TV and feed it mic via the joystick (it mutes the TV once an input goes into the joystick).

    On one of your other videos (Easy add of Mic + Amp to Darth Vader Supreme Helmet/Mask), I've tried to do something similar to what you set up in your Darth Vader helmet: speaker in the same location and a small mic BUT as soon as the mini microphone gets near the speaker, it's instant audio feedback.... how is it you have your mic right above the speaker (from your video) yet you aren't getting audio feedback etc? Thanks!

    • @creative-stuff
      @creative-stuff  5 месяцев назад

      Joe you've actually reminded me that I forgot to finish the full how-to video for that build! (I'll queue that back up). To answer your question. I have a small exciter mounted on the INSIDE of the left front side of Vader's jaw. My mic is directional and points toward my mouth. In theory, if I did point it down at the speaker it should also scream out with feedback, however I don't recall that being an issue. Perhaps it being shielded by being inside the plastic of the jaw helped. And perhaps exciters are less sensitive, not sure.
      The important thing is only use a directional mic, point it toward your mouth and not toward the speaker, and ensure you keep the volume at a happy-level where your speakers aren't on the cusp of squealing every chance they get. (if your mic says it's omnidirectional, swap it out) Also ensure your mic is not pressing against any vibrating part of the helmet (e.g. mic sitting against hard plastic without a foam mesh between).
      Did you put your speaker inside the jaw and is it an exciter or full speaker?
      Cheers!

      @@creative-stuff Thanks for getting back to me so quickly! The speaker is hot glued to the lower grill/mouth section, centered, of the Vader helmet but I had bought a couple of (what I thought were directional) mics off of Amazon and the audio feedback as they neared the exciter/speaker was ridiculous! How much is a good DIRECTIONAL only microphone? Also, do you think it would help to put some foam padding between the microphone and the speaker itself? I ask because I already have some foam there but it doesn't seem to help.... I'm getting pretty frustrated about it, to tell the truth. I don't know what a good "blocker' would be for the setup... Would LOVE any suggestions and if/when you do that full how-to, I DEFINITELY wanna know! Thanks again!

    What about wireless headsets that dont have a 3.5 mm audio jack?

    • @creative-stuff
      @creative-stuff  4 месяца назад

      It looks like it may be easier to use a different (3.5mm headset). But if you want to give it a try (I'm assuming your wireless connection is to a USB typically connected to your console.) If thats so here may be some options, HOWEVER I've not tried any of these myself: You could use a USB hub or Docking Station with 3.5mm port connected to a different computer (not your destination device like PS4 or Gaming PC) so it can do the any necessary conversion. You "Might" be able to use a USB powered Hub with Built-in soundcard without a PC, but I'm not sure on that. Alternatively you could a Digital to Analog Converter if you can find one that accepts USB Audio as an input. Not having done that myself, I cannot give any solid recommendations, but if you find one of these or something else works out for you, I'd love to hear about it .
      Cheers

      I’ve tried about a dozen voice changers. There are a few that were good at pitch changing voices. Many of them had issues with going higher pitch and still sounding realistic, but you may have more options for going deeper. I don’t have my list handy but the i9 works well for going deeper except at the lowest end but you shouldn’t need to go that low since Ghosts voice isn’t that low.
      Also the mini/micro white one I reviewed- that was nice and compact but it had the mic built in. ruclips.net/video/hwPqp_ed0JM/видео.htmlsi=6LeOKUr8bk0xhU6q
      There’s also a low profile male/female only voice changer also here: ruclips.net/video/g4cX-_kltXk/видео.htmlsi=VG_FKaVrtVFKNsOT

    Hi, Can you help me I can't get it to work, I have a headset with a single headphone and microphone jack cable, when I plug it in the ps4 reveals no microphone and I only hear audio

    • @creative-stuff
      @creative-stuff  20 дней назад

      It normally uses a TRRS input (mic, left, right, ground). Does the metal connector on your headset? Have four separate metal areas with three different plastic dividers or does it only have three separate metal areas with two plastic dividers? If it’s the latter, then it’s only a TRS, which means you likely need a TRS to TRRS converter. Because if it’s only a TRS then your mic signal is getting lost because it’s combined with the ground. (While Ground is the sleeve in the TRS, in a TRRS that large rear metal part from the TRS is cut in half and becomes an additional ring (ground) and the last small segment is the sleeve (mic)).
      It would, however, be odd if you had a TRS connector attached to your headset, given that would mean that you’re only getting mono rather than stereo through your headphones. Does your headset have only one headphone rather than two (e.g. only left ear)?

      If your steel series headset already works with your PS4 it should work fine with this. From what it seems they should have a single 3.5mm TRRS connector (left, right, ground, mic) - that will just feed straight into your voice changer (without need for a combiner)
