I have all CP cds And almost all cds of him as a sideman . I have already transcribed a lot of his solos on cds And RUclips vídeos .What I Surprises me The most is The fact of never hear a line repeated . He is from another planet !!
I don't play sax, but I'm an ultra-serious full-time professional musician. I listen to Potter about 2 hours a day, every day. He is somehow greater than the sum of his many attributes. The best of the best...
I don't know if anybody noticed or would even consider this but at around 10:40 or a bit before, he talks about Bird and how perfect his conception was . . and right at that moment there is an orb that soars downward from the ceiling into the crowd of people. Anyone else notice this? Mabye it's Bird himself
It's interesting Gill Evans was also busy checking out Berg. Berg Piano Sonata pre 12 tone very listenable also post 12 tone violin Concerto. But so Potter started at 10 and was really playing Coletrane changes by 14. Context wow
Fela Kuti. Take the word "terrible" with a grain of salt, though. Fela plays with poor intonation, sloppy technique and out of time but it works. For those reasons, I find Fela incredibly hard to emulate but essential to study for playing Afro Beat authentically.
Yes. To all of it. Thanks, Bernie!
It's not a proper Chris Potter video until Bob comments on it!

Great stuff...
Hubiese sido interesante no sólo escucharlo sino verlo un poco más cerca para observar su ejecución.
Holy, holy, holy, holy shit !
who was the terrible saxophone player he was talking about who had a good vibe?

What's the first song he plays? Sounds so familiar, but I can't place it... Is it Out of Nowhere?
Yes, thank you. So it is. I went to that Joe Pass record where he plays songs from Charlie Parker with Strings, and found it. /watch?v=tAcT2oxwcHU
