How Much BETTER Has My 2022 Ford F-250 Been Than My LAST One?

- I bought the cheapest 2018 Ford F-250 from CarMax 3 years ago and it's been an amazing truck. So it made sense when I went to buy a new truck it was another F-250. This time a brand new 2022 Ford F-250 Limited that was over $100,000. The goal wasn't to buy a Limited, but there were no Platinums for sale since almost every truck is pre-sold or sells within hours of the dealer listing them these days.

The truck suddenly becoming louder could have something to do with oil. The 6.7 is picky on fluids. The old ford diesels ran great on Rotella. The new ones prefer MotorCraft 10W-30 with a MotorCraft filter. Also be sure to add a good fuel additive- the CP4 is an expensive ticking time bomb. I would recommend a disaster kit for the fuel system.
Rear lights that fill with water and destroy sensors and cameras... Well done Ford!
Excellent truck and content.
Somehow I missed when you got this. I thought you still had the old one. You should put AGM batteries in it, they are sealed and can handle loads better.
They have different charging voltage though.
I'd assume you can code the bcm to accept it. Those are standard across Europe because everything is start/stop since ~2011 here.
@@jay-emWRONG, don't spread nonsense!
AGM's charge at 14.7 volts max. Exactly what my 22 charges the CRAP Ford OEM batteries at. Odyessy's will be in my future on this truck.
FYI, For 15 years, Odyessy's have started my 03 Duramax flawlessly.
You might need the shims that increase caster angle. Common fix that dealerships won't entertain doing because it's not a 'factory approved' fix.
Yep, solid axles with insufficient caster angle on the steering knuckles are basically like shopping carts with the wobbly front wheel
I got 42k miles on my f350 lariat ultimate srw. At 37k miles I got death wobble after I took my 24x14 wheels off. Turns out it was the track bar bushing that was bad, took the track bar out and got a new bushing pushed in and re installed, no more death wobble! (I also use the truck for snow removal and have a leveling kit installed so that’s just more stress on factory components) Another problem i recently had was the factory battery’s started to leak, not sure what caused that but I replaced them. Also my screen goes blue sometimes while in reverse… not sure what it is but doesn’t last longer then a few seconds. Other then that I love the 22’ heavy duty ford trucks.
You are a dork, like me. I have taken odometer pictures for decades.
I love that truck. Nice purchase. 👍🏻
My new 2000 F150 XLT Supercab 4x4 5.4L went 105,000 with only the right rear axle seal needing replacement. The seal cost about $7 at Ford and I replaced it myself so the total cost of repairs for that truck was the seal and the diff fluid in 105k miles. Diesels are problematic.
The fact that people spent $20 to $30k a year to daily one of these without ever hauling more then a fart boggles the mind.... I know, I know, I am a small minority. 🤣
No, you're not alone.
Same here. You’re not alone. I don’t understand. Even the guys who drive 1/2 tons to make a dozen Home Depot runs a year blow my mind.
I'm with you. A gasser would have been the better option in his case. 16,000 miles a year for $10,000 higher starting price then a 20% hit on the fuel cost is just ignorant!
The owners obviously wanted one and it is their money to spend however they please.
Why do people drive SUVs?
An overwhelming majority of them never drive on anything other than wet pavement or maybe a little snow and before the advent of the SUV craze people drove regular sedans and station wagons and never had a problem getting around.
If people want to drive a Cowboy Cadillac and pay for it is their prerogative!
I own a Ram 2500 Cummins and I primarily use it for truck stuff like hauling and towing my travel trailer.
I have an Audi A5 as the daily.
DEF usage and regen are not related. Yours will regen every 500 miles or sooner if soot load is high enough. While towing it will passive regen, but will still do an active every 500 minimum, just won’t be for as long. You need to switch to 5w-40 T6. Much better temp range and might quiet it down again. Your fuel issue on your last one was probably the secondary fuel filter breaking - a known issue.
I just Bought a Truck from Carmax in Merriam, KS and it was an amazing experience!!
Those are Johnson Controls manufactured batteries, they along with East Penn and Exide make all of the different brands of batteries. You can tell they are Johnson Controls by the two large vent caps on top. JC batteries very commonly are wet on the top and then eat into the hold downs. The East Penn batteries are identifiable by the totally flat tops with no removable caps and a vent at each end. EP batteries won’t leak like the JC batteries. Auto parts store battery manufacturers seem to vary by region by It seems in the Midwest that Oreillys and Napa are EP, Autozone and Walmart are JC.
Interstate batteries are typically JC and leak whether purchased from an Interstate dealer or Cosco. Sam’s was selling Duracell batteries for a pretty good price and they were nice EP batteries, not sure if they still are.
No advise from me...just a thanks for nonstop entertainment! Jr never stops.
I liked the big ram bar in the front of the Ford Platinum
Hotshot secret Everyday Diesel treat in every tank and diesel extreme once an oil change. Had my cummins for 120k miles doing over the road campers, and it purred just like the day it came off the lot brand new. Audible difference compared to my buddies truck that never saw any additive. Try some, and see if the tick goes away :)
U need a top side creeper... check ur turbos and down pipes. And try sealed agm batteries
back in the day, we had issues with Preludes with Michelin tires, torsional nibble is what the Honda Engineers called the issue.
Patiently waiting for the hood struts to go bad.
I towed probably 10-15k with one of these regularly for work and we ate def like it was going out of style too
Good Evening John Ross
Hey Douglas! 🍻
JR, cheap free funnel; roll some light cardboard in the shape of a funnel. Works prefect!
Louder engine sounds like could be a sticking EGR valve? Had same on a much smaller diesel but it was suddenly much more "clacketey clack", was stuck EGR.
Hopefully considering the investment it better be more reliable, watching now.
I utilize a compound oil. Ideally it takes care of tick sounds... 🙂
Gately audio makes an awesome sub box that fits under the backseat
I use Rotella T6 in almost all of my vehicles and off road toys... surprised, being cold weather season, you didn't use the 5W-40 instead of 15W-40....
You know....those O'Reilly boys never disappoint. So knowledgeable. So cute! It makes the gays so happy!
Your battery leaking on top like that may be a simple as the acid level is overfilled. Take a look at the levels and lower the level a bit (just make sure the plates are covered).
Missing your 11mm and 13mm, but still have the 10mm. Amazing, the 10mm is always the one to go missing....
I watch the 10s like a hawk 😂
NEVER take your eyes off the 10mm!

I love O’Reillys, but I will never buy oil or filters from them. They’re so expensive. It’s Walmart for oil and rock auto for filters. Saves big money.
Been a long time since we've seen the Bluetooth funnel.
Had to bust it out when there was no other options 😂
John Ross on his back like the old days 👍
Every time I see videos on Ford, I am so glad that I don't own one (or a GM or Stelantis, for that matter). The US engineering and quality left the building many moons ago.
Finally, a garage 😅 the way it ought to be.
Check the exhaust manifolds. Seen some of these trucks with warped manifolds pretty difficult to see
I've had the same 2 Interstate Batteries, in my Boat, for 12 years.
I stick an old hard drive magnet to the oil filter. I might not see what it attracts, but at least it is there.
When i worked changing oil rotella was the worst. the oil was always black even after changing
Tint looks awesome now.our 350 stakebed truck at work sips DEF. We don’t put a lot of miles on it, but we did haul some heavy items in it. Our 2023 came with hand crank windows! Didn’t think that was a thing anymore
They must have gone to a junk yard and pulled them off an old truck. 😂😅😂😅😂
The most important mileage milestone pic you must take on any car is…. 80085
The noise in the drive thru is normal "Typewriter tick". My 2020 does it randomly but got a lot better with Rotella T5 10W30 instead of the Motorcraft oil.
The noise is caused by the relationship of the engine cylinder block crankshaft journals bearing inserts and the oil film. This relationship may allow a vibration that resonates through the cylinder block and is heard as a metallic ticking noise. The noise could be described as an irregular ticking or clacking sound like random typing on a mechanical typewriter.
This condition has been present in diesel engines produced for the last 20 or more years. The overall noise reduction in engines produced today makes this noise seem new when in fact it was masked by other noises in the past. Many manufacturers such as Isuzu Hino Mitsubishi and Nissan report a similar condition in their diesel engines. Testing and engine teardowns with this condition reveal no condition that would affect reliability or durability of this engine.
Have you checked the valve clearance? I'm assuming it has solid lifters? Some of the lock downs may have come loose, throwing them off. That will make it noisier if the clearances are off.
It is a nice-looking truck.
I have not seen your friend for a while. Gabe, if I remember right?
Gabe made a cameo at the very end of the previous Tesla video.
Yes, JR, let's get under this thing!
Yess king go off
When it got louder did you notice any change in mpg between fill ups?
John Ross as someone who works at an auto parts store, no it’s not diesels, no it’s not ford, batteries have just gotten worse in quality over the years. I’ve been in the game for almost 4 years now and since our manufacturing moved to Spain from Mexico about 2 years ago I get about twice as many batteries returned within a month as faulty. The only ones that are perfect 99% of the time are AGM batteries and in my store most of them say made in Germany
Right when you started to pour the oil, I knew you were gonna miss it’s happened to me. This build oil goes right in between the foam insulation hard to clean
Glad to see it is not just me and and the nice numbers on the clock - all palindromes
Goes to Oreillys for supplies and gets everything except for a funnel 😂
I have like 20, I want less, not more (they just haven't been moved yet) 😛
Does your model have the added quart of oil? I dont remember what year, maybe 2023, Fors started using this. My '16 calls for the 10w30, yours uses 15-40w?
It's shocking that Oreilly's hasn't offered to sponsor you after all these years of free advertising.
Have you ever considered Amsoil? I run it in my 200k 7.3 and run 15k intervals and it runs great. Save some money they say their filter is good for 25k too but I always change with oil at 15
I've run Delvac1/Mobil1 since new in my 01 F250 7.3. I changed my oil at 100,000 miles [replacing the filter and topping it off every 10,000] the first two changes then started full changes every 10,000 miles. Over 477,000 miles now and still running great!
Amsoil Adam would be proud.
Put cheap AGM battery in it. Sealed battery I think they run the alternator a little too hot.
Stop by Imos and get some pizza and some toasted ravioli while you're in st Louis. It's a must do thing for anyone in the area, kind of like Giordanos is a must do thing when in Chicago.
Like number 450, cool 😎
use ramps to dk ur oil on the truck
I have a 2000 F250 super duty with the mighty 7.3 L diesel. No damn DEF! I also use Rotella T6, good oil! But use a royal purple or Baldwin filter. They are the only American made filters left in the country, And they are definitely an improvement over Wix, that are now made in China…
that's where they vent.. u need different ones that vent the gas below them
Might be lifters, valves, cam shaft?
So check engine light in a year....nice truck! :P
Walmart has 2.5 gal t6 for 58$ usually. I buy 4 of em at a time.
Don’t worry it’ll break give it time. Ford owners after replacing front end, rear end, transmission and engine with constant other minor issues “It’s had a little trouble but been a good truck” 🥴
Shin-it-su on the left side of the top box. Did you get that from the local Honda dealer?
Amazon lol... I've had that tube for like 10 years and it's still rocking 💪
Another JR apology tour for Ford 😂
How does 15-40 run in the winter I run 5-40 in mine
What garage door company have you chosen months ago?
Every motorcraft battery I’ve had leaks. Not a warranty issue either
Wait wait, a ford that needs fixed or repaired?! Noooo way!
It's called Bidonomics😂❤❤🎉
Watch JRGo buy a new house with a new shop to still refuse to use a fucking funnel.
Dual Alternators, @Wranglerstar approved. ;)
Did you buy this in December '22 as a 2022 model?
The 23's are becoming known for eating DEF. Even unloaded.
Awesome update! Would you consider buying a Ram eco diesel and do a complete def, EGR delete? The way you do videos and show all the pros and cons of your work, that would be a fun to watch series!
I’d probably buy a Ram with eTorque the hybrid trucks get the best of everything 💯
@@WatchJRGoGood call, the EPA would be showing up at your shop pdq if you did delete any diesel emissions from a modern truck or car for that matter.
Taking those mileage pictures is cool till you realized you put 200k miles on a 2017 Civic that you bought brand new. (I am over 208k now 😢)
The battery is not leaking, you are seeing vapor coming out of the vents. You should look at the charging system and what is causing the batteries to outgas so much.
Also, you could not have bought Fomoco batteries from O'Reilly's. Fomoco branded batteries are installed at the factory and are not available anywhere else. Ford batteries that are available to be bought are branded Motorcraft. And those are avaliable from O'Reilly's.
Hopefully that increase in diesel noisehas nothing to do with the CP4 pump starting to implode.
Why do Americans refer to engine size by liters and not cubic inches.
Wait, so triple a does free yearly battery replacements?
My father's Fords have always been basically trouble-free during the warranty period. After that, they start falling apart.
Every damn ford I have owned over the last 10 years have had battery issues, has to be a Ford thing.
The batteries are probably getting boil over issues. Common in the summer.
Maybe the alternators are overcharging them
The real question is what are your thoughts on the 6 speed vs the 10 speed? I like the newer trucks but I can’t get past the constant shifting while towing anything heavy with the 10 speed. IMO the 6 speed is a superior transmission
I have a Chevy HD with the 10 speed Allison, when towing my toy hauler I never find it hunting gears.
@@Tool0GT92 - It's got to be something in the programming of the control unit for the transmission. Maybe just a little too tight a tolerance on finding that optimal engine rpm.
Are you an older fella? I often wonder if gear hunting bothers those raised with 2-4 speed transmission the most.
10 speed is actually a beast but it's fucking quirky for sure.Put 37 on mine and usually just Locke into 8th on the freeway to stop the constant hunting
Pretty sure new trucks are 10w30 or syn5w40 might be your noise. They probably took the pilot injection out over the air. That is what Volkswagen dieselgate was about. Remove pilot injection on dump runs.
The government had all the auto makes turn the amount of DEF. I drive a 2022 Chevy Duramax and we noticed the amount of DEF use went up. My boss's dad looked into it and that is what he found out. Also in the near future they are going to require cars to have the same system. But it will be called GPF
Well invest in a vented battery that why u get the problem with Acidity stains as u need the same batteries as in the bmw, Mercedes Benz and Land Rover. 🤔
Get the Rolls running
Might be the oil viscosity, ford specs 10w30 or 5w40
Also I think that the oil changes intervals are too long.. oil is cheap engine repairs not
Doll alternatives are an option
Time for a fleet update?
XS batteries John Ross the best batteries ever
You must be in an incredible amount of dept. RUclips can't be paying you this much
What’s going on in St. Louis?
Being a Diesel truck owner [including from 2005-2014 a fleet] since the mid 90s, why would pay the premium for the Diesel option [higher fuel as well] when you're only putting 17,000 miles a year on it?! It takes 30,000 miles a year just to break even on the cost to upgrade over the 7.3 gasser.
Change the high pressure fuel pump asap the cp3 is garbage
After watching for several years I have concluded that JR is allergic to funnels!
"Rotella- the best NA Miata oil money can buy" ;)
Deleted and added a tuner to my duramax right away and no def
You're going to be in my neck of the woods.
too bad you did not get a picture of 8008.5. That would have been nice.
