I've been searching everywhere trying to buy this skirt to no avail. I finally just said chuck it! Im going to try to make it myself. I didn't think I'd find anything like what I wanted and would have to Frankenstein something together. Lo and behold! Your video was the FIRST to pop up! Going to get the fabric right now!! Thank you!!
So Awesome and how well-timed a local group of Belly Dance has invited me to take classes with them I will feel awesome being able to make dancewear that reflects my personality
Go for it! I've had a bunch of burlesque dancers in this course and they attached a panel skirt to this belt: learn.sparklybelly.com/swirlybelt You can see an example in the student creation section :)
I love this tutorial and I left a comment once before. I'm in the middle of making my own when I got confused on what to do with the third panel for the front. Do I fold it in half and crease it, so the right side is on both sides? Im using light weight satin and there is a right and wrong side. The back of the skirt is two panels sewn together, so the right side is visible from both sides. If there is any additional instruction you could give in case I missed something, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advanced!!
Did you sew each one side of the two panels together? I'm kind of lost. It's a three panel skirt but to me it seems like two panels only, the back panel and the front panel. Unless the two panels were sewed together which became your back panel? Please confirm. Thank you so much.
Good question! Sorry about my late response. If it's not too late, yes, the 2 panels are sewn together and placed as the back panel (but the back panel wraps around to the front side). And the front panel is just 1 panel. Hope this makes sense!
Hi Mao, i've see in the video of 40th hour of work that you have put a particular fabric at the and of the skirt that give more volume, i can't understand what kind of fabric is this, thank you for all your video
I just found this video and I absolutely love it!! I did have a question: have you made this same skirt using chiffon? If so could you direct me to the video?
Thanks so much, Monique! I have made the same skirt with chiffon - I don't have a tutorial on it, but this skirt in this video is the same 3-panel, double layer (both layers are same colour) :) ruclips.net/video/AYNOa_TuGao/видео.html
You can learn to make the belt base inside my Belly Dance Costume Workshop at learn.sparklybelly.com/bdcw and decorate it as you like 🥰 I used 2 different sizes of chain for this belt.
I don't understand where the 3rd panel goes. All three seem to be a half circle, but when you wear wearing it it does not seem like the front panel has enough material to be a full half circle.
2 of the panels are connected, and 3rd panel goes in the front. So the front panel is actually a full half circle, but when you wear the skirt, it gathers and appears smaller. But you see the effect of it when you twirl and the skirt flies! 😊
I am interested in using this for a fairy costume, but I'm not comfortable with showing so much of my legs with the slits...Is there any way I can make the skirt without the slits showing my whole leg as I twirl?
Oh how fun :) I think you can achieve your desired result by: First, make the waistband 1 piece - instead of cutting 4 pieces, cut 2 pieces of 5cm x (hip measurement + 2cm) Then before attaching the waistband, sew about 10-15cm to join the tops of the slits. Finally attach the waistband. This way the slits are closed at the top, but when you twirl, the slips will open up and show your legs :)
Oh my. What if you don't have time to just leave it out for a week before Christmas comes?? My mum said that she'll be making a couple of Belly dance dress and Harem pants for me for Christmas😭😭😍😍
If it's machine washable fabric, you can speed up the relaxation of the bias by spritzing the garment inside and out with enough water to make it very damp and then hanging it up overnight to dry. The water lets the fiber relax and the weight of the water will help it stretch. Do not get it soaking wet and then wring. That'll probably stretch it out "funny". If the fabric is dry clean only, the only way to speed up the process is to pin or clip multiple weights to the hemline. A good DIY hem weight is 20 pennies wrapped in a square of scrap fabric. Use a large safety pin to pin these "bags" to the hemline, about 6-8" apart. The wider the hemline, the more "bags" you will need.
I absolutely love how descriptive you are while still simplifying everything.
I wish all tutorials were like yours.
Aw your words mean a lot to me. Thank you!❤️

Hola muy lindo tu trabajo, consulta uniste 2 medios circulos para la parte trasera? Y medio para la delantera?
Gracias! Yes, I sewed 2 half-circle panels for the back side. The front side is just 1 half-circle panel ☺️
Perfect!!!
Thank you so much! 💖
Muchas gracias 👍lo necesitaba gracias 🤩 🙏

I love it, I´ll try making one soon.
Can you make a tutorial about a gypsy skirt? i need help with that :(
How much yards of each color did you use?
I just found this video and I absolutely love it!! I did have a question: have you made this same skirt using chiffon? If so could you direct me to the video?

Could I use for my two layers silk chiffon for top and poly chiffon for bottom? Should I sew them together?
Nice one
Show me how i can inners in kaftan? thnx...love ur videos
That was a real pretty Belt. Is there DIY on making one of those?
Thanks, Jiniko! I'm planning to make a video on making this belt this month :D
You are so awesome for sharing. Can't wait to see. Please let me know when available to check out! Ü
How do I make the waist chain.❤
You can learn to make the belt base inside my Belly Dance Costume Workshop at learn.sparklybelly.com/bdcw and decorate it as you like 🥰 I used 2 different sizes of chain for this belt.
So do we divide those number by 2 again to get the quarter size? I suck at math lol
Oh don't worry, the math for circle skirts can be confusing! What do you mean by quarter size? Quarter circle skirt?
I don't understand where the 3rd panel goes. All three seem to be a half circle, but when you wear wearing it it does not seem like the front panel has enough material to be a full half circle.

I want to use a sheer sari type fabric as the top panel. The rest of the layers are where I can't make up my mind or figure out.

Oh my God thank you so much!!! 😍😍
My pleasure, Maddi! :)
Wait, when did you sew the sides of each panel?
1 week? damn i have a performance on sunday!! i heard hanging bias garments for 24h is fine?
Hope your performance went well! I'd keep the skirt rolled up and stored, so it won't keep stretching :)
How do you measure length from posterior. My side seam is 39. Posterior becomes 42 with butt. When I made outfit it was to long.
I am interested in using this for a fairy costume, but I'm not comfortable with showing so much of my legs with the slits...Is there any way I can make the skirt without the slits showing my whole leg as I twirl?

amazing 👸!!!!!!!🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
I love math! thanks for the calculations
Can anyone tell me how to make reversible fabric?
Perfeita!💃👏 Obrigada!
why would you multiple by 2 if you're just gonna end up dividing by 2 in the very next step? Why not just add 2 and then divide by pi?
Hi there! Yes, you're correct :) I added it to show how the math works, but like you said, you can just add 2 then divide by pi :)
ii havnt done this in years, so forgive me. is that divide by 2pi or just 3.14?
Nice
thank you!
What about that beautiful waist belt design ?
Oh my. What if you don't have time to just leave it out for a week before Christmas comes?? My mum said that she'll be making a couple of Belly dance dress and Harem pants for me for Christmas😭😭😍😍

PERFECT!!!!
OK i'm confused how did she end up with two slits..?
Sarah Farmer she cut out 3 panels and only sewed 2 together, the third is connected via the elastic band
