    Great video. Torque sensors are essential for economical use of battery power. Thanks for explaining this.

    Thanks for this insight. My E-CELLS Super Monarch Crown e-mountain/cargo bike (out of Pahrump, Nevada) has the Hall Effect (magnetic sensing) torque sensor with NINE pedal assist settings. It works very well on difficult trails and off-trail.

    My 2012 Stromer uses a TMM4 strain guage type torque sensor at the rear derailleur hanger. The sensor plate hanger is cracked and bent inward and the derailleur is also damaged but oddly enough the ebike works well. Replaced the plate and derailleur, PAS response became poor and sluggish. Reinstalled original parts, torque sensor works fine. Is there an adjustment to calibrate the sensor by trial and error? I really want to replace the defective parts.

    • @BlueMonkeyBicycles

      Bosch has their own, I know that for sure. If you look around for a bikes with a throttle and a torque sensor, then you probably found a bike company using kclamber.

  • @config2000
    @config2000 5 лет назад +1

    Hi Mikey. Would these units work as a retro-fit replacement for eBikes with PAS on the crank, or would the controller need changing too? I imagine with PAS only an OFF/ON state is detected while torque units would need to send a signal range (say 0.0 to 1.0).

    • @BlueMonkeyBicycles
      @BlueMonkeyBicycles  5 лет назад +3

      The controller would need changing too.
      I know throttles often output 0-5kΩ, I don't know the range of the torque sensor output. It might be customizable...? I'll ask the engineer I work with, and see if I can distill an answer less than 10 minutes.

    • @BlueMonkeyBicycles
      @BlueMonkeyBicycles  4 года назад +1

      The connector at the motor doesn't connect directly to the battery. Between the motor and battery is a device called the controller.
      If you find the connection from the battery to the controller, you can get an idea for what connection is needed.
      You can replace the 36v 10ah battery with anything 36v. 20ah, 30ah, 5ah... Any ah rating will do. The hard part is making it fit physically without flopping around, and yes, getting the connection correct.

    • @BlueMonkeyBicycles
      @BlueMonkeyBicycles  4 года назад

      The throttle or the display that tells you how fast you're going is sometimes called a controller, but the word controller is reserved for a different part of the bike.
      Both the battery and the motor connect to the controller
      Sometimes it's in an external box, sometimes it's hidden in the frame of the bike, under the bike or under the battery. Follow either the motor or the battery, and you'll find the controller. Don't skip over the wire if it goes inside the bike, it's easy to mistake other cables.
