  • Here's the follow up. We finished the middle section so you can hear the improvement in the trouble notes from the first video.
I have a mini-stroke at some point and say screws instead of springs like 5 times. And mix up headed and threaded. But you probably get the idea. Screws are #8 1-1/2".
I also change positions on whether or not to use one or two springs depending on the voicing. Really just find what sounds best. After thinking about it I probably start with one spring most of the time and adjust if it doesn't ring right.
Anyway, I hope this is helpful and let us know if you have any questions.

have you checked out vintage vibe. they change grommets w/o taking off the tonebar. haven't done a refurb myself, but their technique looks really practical.

Excellent question. You can use that technique with any grommets, although ours may be a little more difficult as they're a bit beefier and have a longer shaft. You just do it one at a time. Typically we take everything off because we can clean up and re-voice the springs. But it is certainly faster that way and we have done it a few times. Just not the norm for us. :)

... And pretty out of tune... But in the Seventies, you were allowed to do that.

That isn't "crud" It's wax and is there to help the screw go into the wood. You want it there.
