Why does "cup" take the schwa and not /ʌ/ ?
Excellent explanation . Thanks
Good morning Kevin and Lisa !
From Bolivia.
This was really a nutritious teaching. Please make more videos like this one, specially ending pronunciations.
Thank you very much !
Yes, Kevin. It's cleared up a lot of confusion about those two sounds. I thought there was a distinguishable difference between them. But, it turned up that "there ain't a difference". Thank you so much, and lots of love from India ❤️
It’s such a great lesson. Thank you so much.
I cant roll the “of” sound smoothly as you, 😢
😮😮😮😮😮😮 thanks 🤔🤔🤔🤔 I'd like more examples about this and understand it much more .
Thanks a lot!
Thank you.
many thanks
Thanks boss
So from what i unserstand, schwa is a flex slot for vowels?
Being from NYC, we pronounce it "salid."
Thanks, Kevin, for clarifying this topic. Please, make a video about the oo sound, like in good, took, should, could, etc. For a non native English speaker, it seems to me that “oo” sounds very similar to the short u sound. What’s the difference between the two?
As far as I know, the u can sound like ‘oo’ like in food, so that’s not the short u, it’s something else.
Great video, this is a very confusing sound even for native English teachers (at least here on youtube)
So the unstressed schwa sound in eleven, expect, event , solid fluid and erase can also be pronounced as short e or short i sound?
☕️👍
Fantastic
is it correct to pronounce the A article as E in bed?Sometimes I hear it pronounced that way. Also the [æ] sound can sound to me as emphasized E like in bed. For example in words that, mad, bad, candle etc.
The artcle A sounds like a schaw in connected speech , but if you are making a pause or not using connected speech it sounds Ei like the English alphabet , as for that , bad sounding like bed , it depends sometimes which states the speaker is from .
The shwa sound is sooo confusing because we don’t pay attention to the sounds when we speak until you teach it.
Why do you use the Hebrew word "schwa" instead of the English word "neutral vowel"
They're not pronounced the same. "oo" in Good and "u" in cup are not pronounced the same.
I would argue that /ʌ/ and /ə/ are pronounced the same, the only difference is that /ə/ is never stressed.
To debunk your argument, I'm gonna ask a simple question, Are you a native-English-speaker?, If not then shut up, You might have a foreign pronunciation
By the way the word GOOD is not pronounced as BLUE OR MOON the word GOOD has a different sound
@@marcocisneros1431 That's not a refutation, that's the genetic fallacy. Learn logic 101.
And about the second comment, I was talking about /ʊ/. Learn the IPA and American accent and then speak.
@@mybad2603 First off I do speak English in an American accent.
You don't need the IPA to speak English. native-English speakers never learned the IPA to speak so that claim is a GENETIC FALLACY.
I wonder why that "LEARN LOGIC 101", Dude it's obvious you wanna sound smart 🤓, Using wordy sentences.
I'm jealous of those you've never taught English. Imagine telling your students you need to learn the IPA to speak American English 😂😂, The IPA is not even scientifically accurate.
And I reiterate GOOD AND CUP are pronounced differently
Last but not least, THAT'S THE GENETIC FALLACY, Is not right, You should've said that's A genetic fallacy.
@@mybad2603 oh and I forgot, If by LOGIC you mean that I have to learn the IPA I can't do anything but laugh 😂😂😂, I wonder how native-English speakers would react when you tell them that the IPA is important to speak perfect English
This video created more confusion.
It was pretty clear
Where's the confusion buddy???
3 different pronunciations for the word 'salad'..
And it's like that for a lot of things.
That's crazy.
@@BattleForTheHotel Do you speak Spanish??
He explained the correct pronunciation with the schaw sound, he also said 2 different sounds or ways which are unacceptable or incorrect
