At that time, SM was a huge force in the entertainment industry. The fact that the three of them won the lawsuit was like a slap in the face to SM at that time because it was very difficult and no one had ever won. Even Jaejoong once said "When we sued, we didn't think we would win" and "If we lost, we would probably commit suicide together because the compensation contract was too big." Luckily, they won even though the price they had to pay was too high. They were the most talented people at that time and perhaps even now. What makes me saddest is that there was a law called JYJ that was created to protect future idols when signing contracts, but that law couldn't protect them from injustice in the industry.
The "JYJ Law" does not refer to contracts, but is an act preventing third parties from blacklisting certain individuals or groups from appearing on television/media. And if SM had agreed to renegotiate the terms of their contracts, this company would have become a huge force in the entertainment industry globally.
When I saw your reaction.... I just realized that 15 years have passed since the lawsuit, that’s too long... It’s probably even longer than the number of years many groups have been active now, and when they sued they were just teenagers in their early 20s 😭 What they went through was so terrible and difficult than any idol. But to be honest, the separation afterwards was also considered a premise for the public to clearly see the strengths of each member, each individual they are all excellent individuals. Personally, I’ve been a DB5K fan for nearly 20 years, there were things we didn’t want, many times it was considered hopeless but I’m proud to have known and liked them early. Especially now, everything seems to be much better than before, especially happy to see Jaejoong and Junsu still happily working actively and not giving up (they are my bias☺️)
You’re right, at that time they were just young men in their early 20s 🥺 But before that their talent and beauty were displayed like gentlemen on stage so I almost forgot 😂 But it can also be said that the 3 people who left at that time were the most talented individuals, even though I was a fan of another group, JYJ’s talent at that time was undeniable. There were many talented individuals but the 3 of them were always recognized by everyone (especially Junsu and Jaejoong, as artists when they worked almost on their own without much support from the company and sometimes even more than many other solo artists). I only recently started liking Jaejoong even though I’ve known him for a long time haha. Like you said, it’s great to see both Jaejoong and Junsu starting to get back on the Kpop track and being known and loved more as idols (which they deserve since they’re the most talented of gen 2). I hope they stay like that in the future.
@@hanniejane1999 Yeah, all 5 of them are the best individuals and should be considered SM's Dream Team. Lately, there have been many positive signs in their relationship... Who knows, maybe they can interact with each other in the future 🥺
Thank you for playing this… It was so well researched! After JaeJoong and Junsu had been through so much, They both ended up opening their own companies, Palm Tree Island, and Incode, and they are trying to make them companies that trainees want to be a part of. Junsu said that if someone wants to leave his company, they are free to go, no trouble, no disputes. He said what’s good for the trainee is also good for the company. Yet again both of them are paving a new path of change…
Palmtree doesn't have any trainees. Junsu doesn't train idols or someone. All of the artists under his company are well known musical actors. Most of them are veterans. The only idol under his company was Kei (from Lovelyz) but she didn't sign as an idol, she signed with them as a musical actress. After Kei's left, the only idol/ex-idol under Palmtree is Junsu himself. And the other actors under his company go to tv shows very freely. The only one who can't be invited is their ceo 😓
Thank you so much for your reaction. You are so engaging and such a pleasure to listen to ❤. AND the fact you appreciate Junsu and his talents immediately makes me love you girl! ❤ On a sad note these boys have gone through an ocean of heartache and all they wanted was the freedom to pursue their careers as artists and not as slaves to their music agency. My blood boils when I think we have been deprived of so much content due to that cruel broadcast ban. BUT I have to remind myself that if it wasn’t for SM’s dirty tactics I never would have experienced the absolute joy of Junsu as a musical actor and both Jae and Mickey had successes which would not have been possible under SM. So I hope the young k-pop artists of today appreciate what JYJ has done for them in terms of fairer contracts. Having said that - I’m also a fan of EXO and …just watching what CBX is going through makes me realise that SM has learned nothing.
@moniwols thank you sm, I appreciate you watching and Im so happy you enjoy it 🤧🤧🩷 and I agree, JYJ made me think of cbx too :/ cbx are signed to baekhyuns label as soloist/subunits but the activity of exo has pretty much come to a hault post 2018 (partially due to army enlistment) and 2022-2024 the issues have been going on :/ I hope things clear up better and faster than for jyj
I still remember when the lawsuit happened, the media at that time almost followed SM, almost all the good articles about JYJ were deleted, but even the smallest bad points of them were dug up (although not necessarily true) to create pressure, like in the clip above you can see many newspapers at that time reported that Jaejoong beat a fan, signed a contract with another company, SM's joint concert event was canceled because of the lawsuit... SM did everything to throw dirty water and direct public opinion to attack JYJ, even long-time friends in the company turned around to attack them. Imagine how strong they must be when young people in their early 20s have to endure so much pressure. Meanwhile, those who went before in the industry had a very different view of that lawsuit, they understood how bad SM was and spoke up to defend JYJ. Perhaps the only lucky thing is that all 3 of them who left were outstanding individuals, they knew it was inevitable but still tried to find other ways to develop themselves and achieve more success. Especially on stage, Junsu and Jaejoong were recognized as performers rather than idols (meaning multi-talented people and in the industry at that time there were only 3 idols who were considered artists: G.Dragon, Jaejoong and Junsu). Unfortunately, Yoochun couldn't hold himself back... but no matter what, Jaejoong and Junsu are still asserting themselves and never giving up.
And maybe why after all these years I feel SM is still the same when looking at CBX's lawsuit now. There are many similarities. Even though SM's power is now very limited.
If we ever get an OT5 reunion concert, it would probably trigger the apocalypse 😅 JYJ will forever be legends because they were a wakeup call to end slave contract.
They are not forgetten. I recently become fan of jae joong. What a roller coaster life he has. I wish he succeed big in a life and music, his success will be role model for many. JYJ life story doesn't belong to korea entertainment industry alone, its for people who wants to fight for what they think as right, who are ready to fight against monopoly.
Most importantly, Korean pop idols need back bone and unity. Your own people backstabbing you and didn't care about you is the painful thing, even after enjoying benefits of jyj law.
SM threatened to not let their artists attend award shows, music shows and other shows if JYJ were allowed to appear on those shows. the broadcasting companies decided it was beneficial to keep SM happy since they have a lot of successful artists versus just only one artist, JYJ, even though they’re also really profitable and have a lot of fans. and yes, i would say the reason jaejoong and junsu still do pretty well in selling out concerts and albums is because of their dedicated fanbase from tvxq days. although lately junsu has gained new fans through his musical performances and jaejoong through his jaefriends show and more appearances on variety shows. slowly they are being allowed back on music shows and variety shows again. the reason SM focused on destroying them is because they were the most popular members of tvxq, and SM didn’t want them to succeed outside of the company and become competition for the remaining tvxq members
@@macipiinkThey were made as an example for all other artists. It doesn’t matter how famous you’ve become, you cannot go against the company. JYJ did lose a lot of fans, Jaejoong was so scared of this. They cant perform in music shows and even the concert venues are being cancelled at the last minute before they perform. So they started performing on small venues and went to different cities instead. Some people still to this day doesn’t understand and mock them for not being able to perform on big venues. But the ones that remains are the ones that stayed with them all these 20+ years, but that’s still a big stable fandom that love and adore them.
And after SIXTEEN YEARS Jaejoong was finally able to perform on a music show that was broadcasted. Only because Lee soo man retired from his position ( i assume). Sixteen long years of getting blacklisted.
The 50/50, was very painful. 50% to the company, the remaining 50% pays for everything else, staff, clothes, food, flights back and forth sk/jp, stages, props, venues, all, what’s left is what they get and taxed, then they have to deduct whatever they owed from when they were trainees.
